Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is my favorite movie of the year by far. Some people may go into the theater unaware of the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley, however, it isn't necessary to enjoy the film. The plot of the movie isn't complicated (as if it needed to be anyway), but characters are still given time to developed into lovable people you care about or wish to be KO'd. Anyone who grew up during the 80's or 90's will quickly find something to love in this fast paced thrill ride filled with humor. Best movie of the year!

A non-stop tightly paced, hilarious, mixed-media adventure. One of the best adaptations I've seen to date. Perfectly captures the tone and sentiment of the original material, and dare I say actually plusses it!
Casting is dead on, great performances throughout. Perfect balance of great comedy dialog and staging, with intense action battles. Some truly excellent stylized visual effects moments.
Just a wonderfully fun flick.

As an older moviegoer I wasn't sure whether I'd be cool enough to get into the dialogue but I shouldn't have worried. There was plenty of humor that anyone could follow and there was no problem getting into the characters. The action/fantasy scenes were fun and the casting was perfect. A great date movie.

I didn't catch "Hot Fuzz" until it was on cable and I loved it. So I thought that I should check this out and I have to say I loved it even more. I loved the video game references and the story line kept me interested. I think this is a movie you either love or hate. With Edgar Wrights there is no happy medium because of his style of film making. I am a big fan... Also Cera is hilarious....

This movie succeeds on many levels. The opening credits alone brought goosebumps. The stylistic renditions throughout the movie create a modern day fable that is exciting and satisfying to experience. Even though the movie is set in Toronto, it's an alternate universe of Toronto, one in which the power of the geek is extended to the physical, and a lifetime of training on game controllers endows ability and power to whomever can wield it.
I was glad the music was a throwback to punk, to grunge, to a time when rock was stripped down to its bare parts and raw emotion was able to cut loose with a power lost for decades. The trend of 'screamo' that so many of today's twentysomethings enjoy would not have made this movie as accessible to the likes of this oldtime comic rocking geek.
The classic tale of the underdog overcoming all odds and obstacles to achieve his dream is played out well here, stumbling only near the end where it loses it way just a bit in a jumble of touchy-feelyness where Pilgrim forgets the powerful draw he felt when first dreaming of Ramona, and instead gets concerned over his behavior with Knives. Here was an opportunity to reiterate the reason we've gone down this road, why Scott, and the audience by extension, decided to pursue such a crazy relationship, accepting the consequences of having to conquer the seemingly unconquerable.
The slick and cool quirkiness of all the characters, the super slick dialogue, especially in the treatment for how Generation Y communicates while excluding the ubiquitious mumble, the confrontations between the protagonists and antagonists in renditions that evoke the video games they play, and the likeability of nearly everyone who landed a role in this epic all add to the specialness of this unique, ground-breaking, and ultimately satisfying film that instantly goes to the Top Ten tier of NuclearDog's favorite movies of all time, sitting alongside that rare and precious fable "Streets of Fire".

This movie was so awesome! It was visually fantastic with lots of witty humor that makes you laugh out loud. It is a little slow in the beginning but if you have any knowledge of reading the graphic novel it makes complete sense and even heightens the experience. It is a lot of fun and I think it is the new must see movie of the rest of the summer!

Without a doubt, this was the best movie of summer 2010. It reminds you of the lost fact that movie making can be art. I cheered darn-near throughout the film, and have rarely felt so satisfied after watching something in a theater. I'll likely see this twice before it hits DVD. It was stunning. If you like video games, this is definitely the movie for you. It is FILLED TO THE BRIM with references from old-school games as well as some new favorites such as "No More Heroes".
The actors were amazing and each 'boss battle' was quite funny. No part of this theater-adventure left me bored and I can remember a highly amusing and very unique movie. I was pleasantly surprised and left wanting more "Scott Pilgrim".
Finally, the story was unique and entertaining. Without the amazing plot, it would have been another gimmicky film. The characters were genuine and didn't seem forced. You really wanted to love them and you really were on Scott's side. Sure he did something that wasn't very nice, but he's honest and genuine in many aspects. I really liked him as a character! :)

Scott Pilgrim is top-notch entertainment. A perfect adaptation of the graphic novels, Edgar Wright adeptly moves from comedy to action, but never forgets the heart of the characters and film. Edgar loves films, and his enthusiasm shows through in his own movie-making. He's at the top of his form. Perfectly cast, every bit, including tons of stuff that could easily have fallen apart, like the videogamey stuff and the music, just work amazingly.
Well worth seeing in the theaters. Done wait for DVD!

Big fan of Edgar Wright's movies. He def. did the genre justice. Don't know too much about the comic book;just found out reading another review that this was based on a comic book. Don't need to know too much about the comic book to enjoy and know what's going on. Great cinematography. Excellent use of effects and sound. Who ever worked on the sound FX needs to win a award; it was genius. Characters were perfect. Decent back stories to some of the characters without losing too much interest. It was good to see kids and adults in the theaters watching this film. It was entertaining to kids and adults as well. Funny at times but not over the top. Good to see good music mixed with really cool action scenes. Worth taking a trip to the theaters on a Sunday afternoon.

One would think that a professional in his fifties would sniff his nose at this stinker. No way dudes, (<< that's the term, correct?). This film rocked. I saw the previews and said - got to see this movie. Growing up with video games and the quirky sounds and things I knew I would enjoy it. Not a reader of the comics but was ready for any twist and turns. Story runs like this. Dead pan life of a slacker kid trying to make his indie band something other than a band of friends. But he meets the girl of his dreams(on skates). That's whe the real fun begins. The video game references and animation, music a slick coolness of it all was great. And the the fight scences were str8 out of the video games as well as good arranged martial arts movie. Entertaining to those withs omemwhat of a background with video games, indie bands and cute love stories

This is the best movie I have EVER EVER seen. It takes aspects of the comic and makes it EVEN BETTER!
You can see Scott in a better light by the middle of the movie and that takes 5 comic books to get there in the story. So GO! SEE IT! Scott PIlgrim (Cera) is kicked out of the spotlight by all the evil exes and how they do their thing. Why are you still reading this? SEE IT NOW!

I have been anticipating this movie for quite some time. If you haven't heard of Scott Pilgrim, now is the time to go watch the movie and get into it! It is based on the popular comic by Brian Lee O'malley that stars Scott Pilgrim as to 23 year old, Canadian, indie rocker slacker that has this odd charm about him. He then meets the girl of his dreams (literally), Ramona Flowers. But in order for him to be with her, he has to defeat her 7 evil Exes that control her love life. Its very good quirky fun! It follows very true to the comic up to a point where it goes on its own. Trying to fit 6 books into a 2 hour movie isn't easy. What you get is a great entertaining movie filled with video game and geek references. Don't be afraid of the movie if you haven't read the comic. It's still very good fun and will be enjoyable to most everyone.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a fun and faithful adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic book series, capturing so much of the madcap visual energy, the idiosyncratic character voices and most importantly the heart beneath all the pop culture infused veneer. events are condensed, minor characters given short shrift and even some minor changes here and there (though i prefer a dragon vs. yeti fight to the running robot fight gag), but it's all in the service of crafting a six volume story into a two hour movie. and Edgar Wright succeeds, calling upon his "slacker hero" background from Spaced to bring O'Malley's creation to life. just as Shaun of the Dead was a romantic comedy told in a zombie movie, this is effectively a love story playing out in a video game universe, the journey to your heart's desire and self discovery replete with level bosses, power ups, warp tunnels, Rock Band showdowns and DDR style fight combos (and, of course, all vanquished foes turn into coins). the fights are amazing, the music is awesome and while the full emotional progression of the books is glossed over, the major arcs are touched upon well enough to keep all the spectacle fairly grounded and let the audience genuinely root for the characters to not just beat the bad guys, but get their lives together as well. fans of the book should eat this up with a spoon, while new recruits will adore the film and want to read where it all began.

seriously...inception was amazing and deserves picture of the year but in my book scott pilgrim stole the show!!!!

SO GOOD. If there was another showing right after the midnight showing, I probably would've just bought another ticket and watched it again.

This movie was an epic of epicness! I don't just say that because its the tagline of the movie I say it because that's just what this movie is. Every geek and nerd ever in existence needs to see this movie. Just because if makes being the nerd, the geek, the underdog, the weird kid, the loner, the klutz, the loser, the outcast, that much cooler. I am always proud of showing my geekness and this was especially true for this movie - including for me when the trailer for Nowhere Boy came on... but that's another story entirely...
I am a graphic designer and have never seen a movie that has satisfied me so completely when it comes to design. Plus there were so many moments where it was like my life, or a reference from something in my life like video games or favorite sitcoms. My existence came alive through this movie and was gratified. You understand me! I might be slightly exaggerating on many levels. But I enjoyed the experience of going to this midnight premiere and was delighted by this movie on a level that I didn't know was going to be possible. And I was thoroughly anticipating this movie. Everyone needs to see this movie. Do it! A million thumbs up!!

Just a very good movie because of it originality. If in any way, shape, or form you are into video games or the sort it will appeal especially to you because of the constant references toward them, but those that aren't will enjoy it as well with the movies overall spontaneity.

I was one of the lucky few that managed to get into the Comic Con premiere showings of Scott Pilgrim, but you better believe it when I was first to order tickets for the midnight showing.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is probably one of the most different movies you will ever see. With all of it's videogame references and special effects, your head is liking to be spinning by the end of the movie with all the flashing lights.
That being said, Scott Pilgrim is based on a Graphic Novel series by Byran Lee O'Malley, which in turn does stay very faithful for in the span of about a 2 hour feature film. However, with this limitation, you don't quite see the true personalities of secondary characters like Kim Pine, the drummer in Scott's band, or characters that have been completely removed due to time limitation.
Another comparison is a year-long epic in the books has been condense to maybe a month tops. (with Ramona changing her hair every week and a half...) The true relationship and deep feelings between Ramona and Scott from the series seem more shallow and obsessive in the movie, with Ramona only being with Scott because he's nice and Scott getting obsessed due to a freak-American ninja-like delivery highway (dubbed Subspace) going right through Scott's dreams.
However, despite the limitations, Scott Pilgrim delivers as an epic movie that does stay true to the original content with adding well needed changes for a theatrical release. The music will have you hooked and wanting to buy the soundtrack, because of the featured bands that take their name from videogames like Sex Bob-omb and The Clash at Demonhead, which are really songs written by actual bands Beck and Metric respectively. The fighting scenes, that almost seem like musical with the way fights spontaneously break out, are extremely well done and you cannot help to smile when a girl like Ramona is wielding a sledgehammer (that does +2 damage to girls </videogame>) that probably weighs more than Scott to fight one of her own ex's.
The jokes are somewhat hit and miss with most being cheesy one-liners, but what else can you expecting from a movie based on a comic book series. It's meant to be cheesy. It's meant to attract the sort of crowd that would rather play The Legend of Zelda than leave the house on a Friday night. It's meant to be a fun movie that through the power-up bonuses and interspersed drawn-out interludes at places, an interactive comic-book come to life.
As it says on the Scott Pilgrim poster, this is an 'epic of epic epicness,' and I believe that this epic movie will have you seeing it more than once, if only to try to catch some new pop-up that you might have missed or a quote that got easily missed.
