This film is almost beyond words -- basically, it's fantastic! Excellent eye candy scenery, a great story, and wonderfully sculpted characters. There's really not a down side to this one! Congratulations James Cameron...you hit this one out of the park!

I have to say that this was one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life, despite what the person a couple below stated. Seeing this in 3D was even better, the plot is great, the story line is awesome, and the graphics are beyond compare. I will buy this when the DVD comes out and may go see it again. A really great movie. My wife, son and I loved this movie - best movie of the year, maybe the decade. Go see it!!

The 500 million that Cameron spent on this was worth every penny! I saw this in IMAX at noon & could barely stay in my seat I was so excited. Then I went back that night & saw it in 3D with a group of friends. IMAX was much better. If it weren't for all the cussing, this would be a fantastic family movie.

This is one terrific movie. Will go see it in IMA X now. Had wanted to see it in IMAX first but no tickets available...but 3 D was incredible. What next in movie making you wonder.....what a movie, your eyes couldn't take it all in.

The story is formulaic but the effects make this a movie to see. Cameron takes an old story and brings it to a new world with the latest in imaging technology. If for nothing else, everyone should see this movie, especially in 3-D.

Absolutely gorgeous film. 3D effects were wonderful to view and were not of the throw stuff at the audience type. It was so natural you stopped realizing it was in 3D about an hour into the movie. And the movie did not seem long though I knew going it it was over 2.5 hours. The plot was a bit too simplistic and the ending of save the earth by waging apocalyptic battle seemed a bit contradictory.

My daughter and I went to see Avatar and it was amazing. The storyline is a familiar one, however, the cinematography was breathtaking. While the 3D was cool, after a while I was too engrossed with the film to notice it at all. Plan on seeing this one again as I did with Star Trek. Highly recommend this movie to all.

3D special effects were spectacular, the overall flow of the movie was consistent and well done. Movie plot of big business/military types taking what they deemed theirs vs the developing hero was typical. The character development was thoughtful and built smoothly smoothly through out the movie, especially in context with the spectacular special effects. Worth the price of admission and a second viewing. A keeper for the DVD library when it finally comes out on DVD.

So it was an old concept, and not a stellar one. Money hungry guy brings military to deal with natives keeping him from valuable ore. However, the writing was fantastic at making the viewer fall in love with the natives and their culture. The world is immersive, and all concepts to some degree, no matter how outlandish, seem entirely believable. The language is fluid and well practiced, and all characters to some degree can be commiserated with. Normally I avoid paying more than $10 for a movie (this ticket was $15) but I am not bitter or even displeased about it. I recommend it to all viewers who have been waiting for a movie worth the ticket price.

Step back from the adrenaline rush of the action and what you have is advanced 21st century movie techniques in service of an old-fashioned 19th century narrative.
The film does offer some genuine visual excitement but the Noble Savage vs. those claiming to be an advanced civilization has been told many times before in westerns, in colonial era set films, in Romans vs. Judea Jews, and in other sci-fi films. Unlike great sci-fi movies, there is nothing subtle here -- the heroes are pure, and the vilians are as black as Tin Can Harry from the first silent movies.

Took my son to see this movie. The visuals were amazing. We both enjoyed the story, even if it was a little preachy about the environment. The CGI was seemless, and the 3D really enhanced the movie and was not gimicky. I wish I could watch this in 3D on Blu-ray when it hits video.

I watched the movie in 3D and it was amazing, the whole movie was awesome, interesting and very good. The only thing I did not like was the beginning, it jumped to quick in the plot. I would've like to seen how the science was started and how they grew the creatures, but even without that the movie was awesome. Highly recommending seeing this maybe like 3-4 times. I am going to watch it again.

James Cameron's stunning achievement sparkles on the 3D screen like nothing you have ever seen. What Cameron has done has, quite simply, brought the unreal to the real, the fantasy into reality, richly detailing a world and bringing you along for the ride. Our whole family went to see Avatar together and everyone agreed: An Amazing visual treat with a good story and wonderful characters and creatures! We look forward to future sequels (how can they not have a sequel to this?) and think Avatar will be the Star Wars of this generation. James Cameron's passion for this story is obvious. I called it "Dances with Wolves meets Aliens" because of the story line but it's certainly got more than that going on in it. I would definitely recommend this movie though children under 12 might find it overwhelming or too intense.

What a great movie! Visually stunning, action packed, great for all ages. I was blown away by the cutting edge technology and the story line wasn't bad either. This must be seen in theaters!

I can't say enough about this movie. The story, the effects, you are completely drawn into the story that is unfolding before you. It was simply put breathetaking.

Aside from the cliche' "bad guys" being corporate villains and the Pandora natives obviously derivative of Native Americans, AVATAR is a a great vision movie. You can believe that you are watching a different world in all its strange detail. The SFX and 3D are craftily combined to transport you to a different yet familiar planet. Stephen Lang is terrific as the hard-nosed Col. Parker and Sam Worthington delivers a believable punch as the human behind the native AVATAR who grows to love Pandora. Whatever was spent to produce AVATAR is all on the screen. It's definitely worth the time to see it.

Even putting aside all of the absolutely stunning digital work, the movie has an excellent undercurrent of multiple themes that one can walk away with. . .being true to who you really are despite what others try to make you conform to. . .the senselessness and despair of war. . .the interdependence we have with our planet. . .etc. It's not only a beautiful movie, but quite powerful in the messages it contains if you look for them.

Plot and characters are bit one-dimensional and predictable, but no different than star wars. The movie was detailed and interesting, with enough action to keep you engaged. The 3D was immersive and not gimmicky. Truly enjoyed every minute of the movie--will not be the same as a rental or not in 3D, so go see it while you can.
