As many reviewers have stated, the 3D animation in this film is groundbreaking and was by far the best technical experience I have ever had in that regard. The story itself reminded me of Dances with Wolves, and the blue aliens with tails came across as native Americans the way they were portrayed. It is plain to me that the producers had both a pro-environment and anti-war bent, and the biggest downside to me was how transparent that was. It will be nice to see a movie in the future with as stunning a plot line as the technical feats in this movie. The 3D approach and computer graphic animation are clearly the future of movies seen at the cinema.

The 3D and CG animation is great. I think the best I've ever seen. The cinematography is ridiculously beautiful. As you're watching it, you know where the $300 million went. Its not only the effects that are great though. The story is emotional (we cried). The only critism I can come up with (for all you critics out there) is that the story isn't new. Some parts are, but the backbone of the story has been done before. Basically, an operative goes in to a different world to learn about it from the natives. He's supposed to gather intelligence that leads to the destruction of the natives. BUT, he meets a native girl and...you can probably guess: he begins to question if he's on the right side! Very good movie. Highly recommend.

We went into the theater with high expectations that were more than met. First, the special effects and 3D were awesome. I have not seen anything comparable. The plot was basically a high tech corporate army fighting a low tech native population with an underlying marines vs. science. The bottom line is that the movie was very entertaining that kept me in my seat for the full 2:40. The only other movies that did this was the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The characters were all believable although I think the ex-Marine colonel was very shallow, but he fit the mold.

The Avatar was OUTSTANDING. The plot was your basic eco theme. Very captain planet-ish, but it worked well. The visual effects and 3-D were well done.1rst movie I've been able to sit through without taking my glasses off. 2 aspects of the film I really got into were the Nabi language & Culture and the Classic Jar Head; the good and bad one. (I'm a foreign language Major and Military member). I also appreciate the fact they kept the 1 love scene in the move tasteful and short ! ! ! I would recomend this movie to all ! ! Happy viewing

Technically stunning quickly followed by technically distracting. Some of the scenes were added just so showcase the 3D and in other scenes the 3D could not keep up with the action so you were left with a blur of in focus and out of focus movement on the screen. The plot was just ridiculously bad (Did Cameron write this when he was 10?), mining for Unobtainium on a planted called Pandora?? Lets not even get into the corney political messages which encompass the whole movie.

The visuals, as everyone says, are outstanding. I just wish they'd spent as much time and money investing in an original plot. The movie is basically The Matrix meets Dances With Wolves. Since the running time was quite long, it would have been nice not to be able to predict almost everything that happened. That said, it really is visually beautiful. Definitely see it in 3D, which almost makes up for the lack of original storyline.

Yes, it is all it is supposed to be. Think of every cliche (game-changer, goes to the next level, raises the bar), they all apply. See it in 3D, as the process draws the viewer into the story and is an essential aspect of your visit to "Pandora". The 3D visual effects were fabulous and warrants all the critical praise but I was looking at my watch at the 75 minute point hoping this movie would end soon. Despite all the great reviews here, there was hardly any applause at the end of the movie from our packed late-night showing. The "Simpsons" got more. Make no mistake--this is an anti-American military movie that portrays us as the bad guys who like to beat up third-world cultures in order to acquire certain natural resources. The plot becomes fairly predictable. Liberals will like this movie; conservative will not.

The effects and the technological handing of the characters visually and dynamically were spectacular (all senses of that word). A shame that all this technology was not brought to bear on a more subtle storyline and that the characters were such relentlessly stereotypical cartoons. There are purely animated movies with better character depth and development. Nonetheless, this movie is worth seeing for the visuals. I certainly wouldn't see it twice, though.

For technology, this is a 10 out of 10. MUST SEE IN 3D! I'm going to go back to see it in IMAX. Amazingly realistic and intricate world created for this movie. I hear they might publish the encyclopedia used by the filmers. The story, unfortunately, was a bit trite. And, the gratuitous jibes (comments on pre-emptive strikes) and false myths (american indians were indeed in touch with nature, but they also were savages - especially towards other tribes) really detracted - ?why do this; it was such a wonderful movie otherwise?

What this movie lacks in plot it more than makes up for in the beautiful, mystical world that James Cameron has created. The 3-D effect really makes you feel like you are part of Pandora, and the Na'vi are fascinating and ethereal. The plot and dialogue left much to be desired in terms of creativity and sophistication. Also the new age, anti-human, eco themes were overdone. All that said, the visual experience (along with the music) was incredible - that's were the creativity shone. I recommend the 3D experience - it was the best I'd ever seen. I would see the movie again just for the beauty and excitment of the visual display.

I was a little saddened by the story line. It was just like watching an old Cowboys and Indians movie. The love and respect of life, be it plant or animal. My son had already seen the movie and thought it was great. I read the reviews about it having no plot but I disagree. The plot was an old one (like the cowboys and indians but this ttime the indians won). Clearly the special effects were phenomenal and with or without the 3D effects still will stand out as a forerunner in this class or computer generated movies.

The movie has all the feel of attending a service at the New Age-Hindu-Native American Shaman convention. The sermon was easy to understand. Americans are evil because they killed their Mother Earth. In the movie these evil demons are now trying to kill another Mother spirit and the innocents who worship at her altar. The Worship service was complete with dancing and chanting, and the Pagans who attended the movie left cheered at the victory over the evil polluters. Yuch.

James Cameron has truly changed the game for visual effecs with "Avatar" in his creation of Pandora and the Na'vi people who inhabit it. While the story and how it plays out will surprise no one, Cameron truly makes you feel like you are in a different world for the entire movie. This is beyond CGI. This truly is the next level of visual effects. Overall the story was well balanced, with a good mix of characterization, action, and romance. A must see for anyone who loves movies!

Great viewing. Wonderful artistic experience! Poor plot development. Why not allow a crew member to discuss on the ship's log the conflict? Why not show the general conferring with the President what course of action to take? Why not more discussion about the cultural divide between the hero and heroine?

A truly unique experience. The sheer volume of creativity... images... all-enveloping atmosphere... unlike anything else. . I loved the plot... partly because it WAS familiar. Makes it CLASSIC... stranger in a (very) strange land. . Some movies echoed in Avatar: . *Dances With Wolves* *Braveheart* - big speech, gathering clans, hidden love... it's all there *Lawrence Of Arabia* - outsider leads *Aliens* - giant walking soldier/robot *Lord of the Rings* - trees' world-wide network, swarming warrior ghosts (=Eywa's planet life), Gollum, much more *The Abyss* - floating white/pink umbrellas (see Tree of Souls in Avatar) *Every sci-fi/fantasy book or movie you've ever experienced* - because life is a continuum on which we all abide
