Yes, it is all it is supposed to be. Think of every cliche (game-changer, goes to the next level, raises the bar), they all apply. See it in 3D, as the process draws the viewer into the story and is an essential aspect of your visit to "Pandora".
It is appropriate for the whole family (but beware there is death and conflict that will disturb the very young). Do discuss the themes of self-awareness, respect for other cultures, self-transformation and tolerance afterward.
