The movie which my family and I watched in 3D was visually stunning. The world of Pandora was was a perfect balance between man and nature. I heard criticisms before I saw the movie about the story being nothing new. The same could be said about the Trilogy of the Rings and Star Wars and I loved them as well. The movie had a great love story combined with a great villain in an interesting environment. Just put on your 3D glasses, fasten your seat belt, and spend a very special 2 hours and 40 minutes.

I don't take the time to write reviews but this movie was so incredible I had to! Sure, the story was formulaic and some of the actors could have been more realistically drawn; that is an insignificant drawback to the most spectacular and awe-inspiring special effects produced to this point in time. I found the movie to be exciting, touching and to carry a strong message about our interconnection with all of life... but those scenes of flying were so breath-taking that it is hard to remember anything else. A MUST-see, for now and for a long time to come.

Avatar speaks volumes about the status quo. James Cameron took advantage of his position as a cinematic powerhouse to convey the need for a paradigm shift. The symbolic arrogance of military in this film, draw a parallel to today's "shoot before you think" military conquests. And indigenous people living in harmony with nature vs. capitalistic and destructive policy reminds us that we have strayed from living life the way it was meant to be lived. We are a part of the natural world, and cannot be against it. My only regret after seeing this movie is that it is only a movie. Unfortunately on this earth we have already screwed our environment and chased most native people off their land with our bulldozers.

While the 3D glasses did mute a bit of the brightness, it enhanced the movie so much that it wasn't a true issue. Fantastic 3D effects, not nauseating like some of the old ones and the glasses were comfortable and fit over my prescription glasses easily.
Wonderful story line, a bit predictable in some cases but mesmerizing visuals elevated even the ho-hum to extraordinary. The many oblique and pointed references to current issues and trends were food for thought and discussion for hours (and even days) later.
We will look forward to watching this again and again, as there are so many elements that we missed or want clarification on. I advise everyone to see it and come away with your own take on it. It's worth it.

I was completely and totally enterained by this movie. I find the story a continuing one through the times, but told in a new and thrilling concept. I was so taken by the special effects, and the 3-D made you feel like you were there, and it was not an in-your-face 3-D. Enjoyed it throughly.

James Cameron never disappoints. This film lives up to its hype and is a must see. The concept is good, the 3D is well done; if only he had chosen to follow the Na'vi story instead of wimping out for a kid's video game ending. Maybe the two sequels planned with cover the story. 3D Warning: This movie is done with style but the trailers will give you a headache with their cheap 3D tricks (things flying at you). Don't watch the trailers. Save it for the movie and have a great time.

When I grew up, 2001 - A Space Odyssey was the defining movie for all SciFi and a generation. With AVATAR (watch it in 3D) the next huge milestone has been reached.
It is an overwhelming sensory experience and it definitely is what I would call 21st century (like the iPhone). Cameron has set a standard. If you have not yet watched it -- go and watch. You will be amazed.

Characters were not well-developed; those you wanted to spend more time with and get to know were only scantilly filled in and cartoonish. Every key plot point was predictable and a bit of a let-down. But the creative new world had many lovely features and inventive ideas. Excellent movie. It was very long, but well worth the time. I believe that I must see the movie again because it is clear that there were many hidden messages in this movie that were very subtle and will take an acute mind to catch them and understand them. Clearly there was a message of universal oneness, pre-destiny, non-locality (scientists have never been able to find consciousness in the brain/body) , and deep spirituality. There was also a message of racial oppression. The movie was very mystical and uplifting.

Technically and visually this film was beautiful. Even stunning in some parts. However, I go the movies for more than just the graphics and frankly the story, plot and characters were essentially ripoffs from other movies. For example, Pocahontas, Lion King, Star Wars, etc. It was entirely predictable and downright unbelievable. Cameron has basically ripped of the themes from his own and other films and just gave us a new "Skin". Should have and could have been a lot better especially how long it took to make the film.

Ok, if you don't like this movie - you aree dead inside! This is this generation's Star Wars. I saw it opening day in 2D.. liked it so much I went back and saw again in 3D. It was almost like a completely different experience. There are thing that the 3D brings out - that you just don't notice as much in the 2D. I now want to go back again and see it on the IMax screen in 3D.

The movie is as good as all the talk about it. I was very impressed. Saw it in 3D which wasn't a must but it was still easy to focus and I never got that blurry feeling. Story was good with many subtle underlying themes...effects were excellent...another big hit by James Cameron.

I never rate a film but, this one deserves a little attention. This film kept my attention I started to feel like I was part of the story and found myself cheering on the characters and hoping they would win the battle. I loved the fact the movie went outside the box when it came to imagination. From the tree of souls to the beauty of the forrest at night it took my breath away. I highly suggest everyone see it in the theater to get the full effect of the movie. I saw it in 3D which gave it that extra touch. It does have some profanity in certain spots but, for the most part its kid friendly. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, cheers!

I don't know if I've ever said a film was a "must see" until now but you MUST SEE this movie! It's a long movie but it didn't feel long. I could have stayed longer. I never wanted it to end. The story line has been described as predictable or simple. This might be true but it made it easy to follow while the visuals had us enthralled. Under the surface of this simple story, there was also more going on than meets the eye. There are subtle lessons,reminders and universal truths that had me walking away feeling like I'd had religious experience. I'm going to see this film again and perhaps even several times. I feel like something in me has changed, or wants to change, for the better.

Well, James Cameron has done it again. Amazing special effects--CGI has replaced the actor in many respects. I am far from a SCI/FI person and went to apease my friends. This was amazing and the 3D really made the film. Definitely a Oscar in the waiting for Special Effects. Sigorney Weaver was less than impressive and this may show that this will be the start of her swan song, due to the fact that she was upstaged by the CGI characters. all in all a fantastic film.

Viewed it in 3D at Cinema Lux - predictable story line but effects and images make it well worthwhile. I recommend seeing it in 3D.
