The singing, acting, and msic in Carmen were tremendous. It was one of the best performances that Live in HD has ever done, which is saying a lot.

What an incredible performance of Carmen. And how special to see it in this format where everything is up close and real. Wonderful singing by the two lead singers and excellent choreography of the film aspect of it. I felt great gratitude to those who created the possiblity of seeing opera so intimately and to the performers for their superb performances.

T/his is the fourth Carmen I've seen and by far the best and most superb. the singing quality of each of the performers was outstanding. The acting unexpected and flawless. The sets, costumes etc dazzling and the ballet preludes icing on the cake. Put me on a list to buy the DVD.

this is exquisite. Not only was the set breathtaking, Elina Garanca IS Carmen. She is beautiful, a wonderful acress and opera singer, and surprisingly, an excellent dancer. this production brings the opera to a new level. It is important to note that Elina also played (as a blonde, which she is naturally), Romeo in a recently production. The versatility of this person! Bravo! Roberto played Don Jose very well, the obsessiveness of his love was well rendered.

My first experience with "Live Feed HD".... WOW! Took my love/appreciation of opera to a new level. Seeing the faces up close (rather than mini-faces through opera glasses)...incredible. Interviews between acts (rather than just reading the playbill)...wonderful. Behind the curtain views of scenery staging between acts (rather than just looking AT the curtain)...so much fun. Eating popcorn and drinking a soda...surreal. All-in-all a FABULOUS experience. The actual performance was extraordinary - a wonderful production. LOVED IT!!

Being a live theater and opera buff, I wasn't sure about the simulcast experience, but I was pleasantly surprised. We saw the Met’s vibrant, earthy, and fun production of Carmen on the big screen and it was gorgeous. Plus, the sound was great.
They used multiple cameras throughout the house, including roving cameras behind the set. We got the added bonus of seeing the sets changed between acts because the camera persons roamed backstage during the changes. We also got to see the orchestra and the conductor at certain spots.
Nice work, Met and AMC! I'm buying tickets for the next production.

This is a superb production of a classic opera, made even more special in the knowledge that it was performed live. From the set design to the orchestration, choreography, and of course, the vocal performances, this production demonstrates to all why the Metropolitan Opera is among the world's greatest. I absolutely agree with all reviewers who praised the performance, and especially magnificent Elina Garanca and Roberto Alagna. One fact I would like to stress is very good fitness and physical conditions of members of the cast. A few months ago I saw Met Opera's Aida. I enjoyed voices and music, but appearance of almost every member of the cast was disappointing. I feel completely different after attending Carmen.

Fabulous production of Bizet's opera! Loved it all. I felt like I was in NYC at the Met with everyone else. I loved going backstage and all the discussion from the main performers and conductor. Makes me want to go to the opera every time one is offered here! Had I known it was going to be this great of any experience, I would have come long ago! Bravo to whoever thought of this idea of broadcasting!

The close-ups really worked. Could've used a few more wide-angle, "ensemble" shots, especially when the stage was filled. Last-nunite Escamillo was great, Don Jose scraped one of the notes in the "Rose aria." Carmen was superb! Tho they could've had some blood on her after the stabbing; they did so during the "theives' oath." Renee Fleming was just terrific, as were the backstage "insider" views.

Elina Garanca is the most erotic Diva I have yet seen. I am new to Opera and the Met HD series is absolutely wonderful!! Kudos to Marcus Theater for bringing the wonder and power of The Met's productions to my community. Elina masterfully used her voice, eyes and incredible body to seduce anyone fortunate enough or unfortunate enough to enter her world of lust. And this includes the audience!! The choreography was outstanding. And the music--my oh my. Never a boring moment. The first two acts consumed 2 hrs. and felt like five minutes.
If you love music and the stage, this edition of Carmen is an absolute must see.

Outstanding cast, top to bottom! Wonderful conductor! One of the best, ever, and very much worth seeing. 12-year-old granddaughter's first opera, loved it. Negatives: obnoxious for theaters on either side in a multi-plex to run movies with VERY intrusive sounds during an opera. Recommend finding a single-screen venue for maximum enjoyment. Really dislike the emphasis on extreme close-ups. Give me more of the long view I would have if I were actually in the hall (especially when there are multiple characters on the stage). I kept wishing they'd turn up the lights on stage! - deliberate darkness or technical failure?. Love the behind-the-scenes moments and interviews.

Today's HD performance was absolutely marvelous. It surpassed my expectations. It was like I was there! The close-ups were fantastic! It was special seeing the scenery changes between acts and Renee Fleming interviewing the "Carmen" family. The principals were perfect and Teddy Rhodes, getting the late call for Escamillo, was great. Elina Garanca is so beautiful, talented, and simply a perfect Carmen. Roberto Alagna as Don Jose' was totally believable. I felt so sorry for poor Micaela, a heartbroken Barbara Frittoli, who lost her love. MAGNIFICENT singing, acting, and music! Very sensual production! Also, high praise for the ballerinas before Acts I and III.

I agree with Etienne, Elena WAS born for this role, and I loved the passion Roberto Alagna displayed in loving, then hating, but always consumed by, Carmen. At first I was disappointed that we wouldn't have the superb connection with Angela and Roberto that we had last year in La Rondine, but I am VERY glad that Garanca replaced Georghiu. Alagna still showed wonderful feeling, if not as intimate. Hats off to Mr. Rhodes for stepping in with such short notice and doing a splendid job.

This is the best performance I have ever seen of Carmen. Elina Garanca and Roberto Alagna were incredibly passionate. We are really fortunate to be able to view a live opera performance from the MET. You must go see the Encore on Wed, Feb 3rd. Don't miss it!

Beautiful Elina Garanca owns the title role! She is sensuous, graceful and possesses an extraordinary voice and acting ability which makes her so believable. Having seen her in the previously broadcast of La Cenerentola I was looking forward to her Carmen. And I was enthralled, not only becasue of her, but because the entire production was great. Alagna as Don José, even with the awkward equipment malfunction during the arrest of Carmen, sang magnificently. The supporting cast was very good, and the choreography was excellent. The flamenco dance on the "tablao" was very effective, and Elina was a consummate dancer. Kudos to Maestro Nézet-Séguin and the orchestra.

I have never been a fan of operas and only went to this one at the urging of a friend. I am so glad I did. This venue opened a door of appreciation for opera that I never believed possible. To view an opera in HD on a movie screen with brief notes at the bottom guiding you thru what's happening on the screen was amazing! I enjoyed it so well I plan to attend the next one and bring a friend. Thank you Met and AMC for providing this cultural opportunity!!

Firstly: Elina Garanca was BORN to play Carmen - her smoldering sensuality and stunning voice fill the role, oh so perfectly. Secondly: Roberto Alagna wonderfully plays Don Jose as the naive and innocent country boy who finds himself utterly mismatched against the tempestuous Carmen. Don Jose's confused passions are featured brilliantly in Alagna's performance. Thirdly: A wonderful surprise was Teddy Tahu Rhodes in the role of Escamillo - what a voice! And what mesmerizing stage presence! I hope to see much more of this superb singer-actor. The staging and set designs effectively create a gritty and primal world for the emergence of vibrant passions. The orchestra is terrific under the energetic direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin!

This production brings new meaning and excitement to an old favorite. Elina Garanca is simply mesmerizing as Carmen, and her Don Jose is exceptional. These HD broadcasts keep getting better, with an appropriate mix of closeups and long shots. Renee Fleming is, of course, our favorite host. Our one quibble is the waste of enormous resources to build that stupid bull that appears on stage for a few seconds at the end of the last act. In every other way, Bravo! Brava! Bravissimo!
