This was my first streaming HD Met experience and it was very enjoyable and it was the first time I have ever seen Aida. I have seen other Met performances on PBS but to see it in the theater was a real treat. It’s nice to see close ups of the singers. I would much rather go to the actual Met theater but this is the next best thing. The guest commentators in between acts need to allow the people they interview to answer their questions without interruption. If you can’t get to all the questions – so be it. Overall, 5 stars. The singing was gorgeous and the staging was great.

To everyone who provided this performance of AIDA: Perfect in every way! If life consists of experiences, my life reached a new height at the AMC 30 last Saturday morning. I brought 9 friends with me and they agree. I will relive this performance in my mind many times. I sat on the third row in the center and noticed no camera issue (e.g., too close, focus, etc.). From the music to the intermission segments everything was flawless. Thank you!

This my first time going to HD opera, and it was a good intro to Opera, i am familiar with the music and the story line and I thought I will give it a try and if I didn't like I only paid $20. It was beautiful but still I am no Opera fan, but i can see myself going again maybe it will grow on me. The music was beautiful and the close-up shots were amazing, you can see the details of their costumes and hair do. I enjoyed the commentary and the interviews during intermissions, loved a little ballet dance. Highly recommended.

Overall, the performance of Aida was fantastic! The stage sets were awe-inspiring. Musically, it was one of the best operas I have ever seen. And the ballet was absolutely breathtaking - what a brilliant touch!
Two issues though: (1) it was very slow towards the end and was a little longer than it needed to be and (2) the camera was way too close during most of the opera, which was distracting. A few times it was so close that it would go out of focus, and other times it was so close that you couldn't see the rest of the stage and all of the action going on, which was frustrating. This is my sixth HD opera that I have seen and I've never had a complaint about the camera work in any other opera but this one.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was my first experience of Met Opera HD Live. I fully enjoyed it and thought it was a good way to enjoy an excellent performance without laboring myself to an exhaustive trip to Manhattan.
What I like: being able to see performers up close and from multi directions; commentaries; unseen footages;
What I do not like: This can not replace the live experience in the opera house; the sound quality is very mediocre. Maybe it was just the movie theater I went (AMC in Hamilton, NJ), but I will probably avoid that venue if I want to do it again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I thought the performance was fine. I didn't feel the passion between characters, and the intensity of the HD close up did not do the performers any favors. My real problem -- for the very first time -- was the camera work. It was sloppy and unprofessional. The overhead shots were a distraction and added nothing. There were several actual mishaps with camera nowwhere near the action was. This included one of the famous set effects. The live audience was applauding but we couldn't see why. After all of that complaining I need to say that I absolutely love the HD program even with nutty camera work.

I loved Aida and the HD Live format. The sheer beauty of the voices, the remarkable intimacy of being able to see the singers up close, the ease of getting the translation without having to take my eyes off the singers, and the many intermission features made this a memorable and rich experience! Each year I see more operas in this format--this year I will see them all!

Wonderful production, marvelous voices, beautiful costumes and sets. The mezzo has a beautiful voice but her acting and facial expressions did not fit the part. There also wasn't much passion between Aida and Radames. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and love the Live in HD format and the interviews with the singers and backstage scenery changes. This is the second HD presentation I've seen - Tosca a few weeks ago - and I will try to see them all. This is better than being in the opera house.

I was never interested in opera until I started watching the Met productions live in HD. My first experience was Madame Butterfly last season and I have not missed a single Met opera since. I have signed up for all future Met productions for this season. Aida was spectacular in its grandeur and spectacle. The singers gave all their emotion to their parts. The four hour production had me mesmerized from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Grand show - glad to finally get to see this legendary set and cast of thousands. Voices were good but acting was not. Very old school stand and deliver. Why go to all the trouble to stage a show when the actors just stand in one place and sing. And as far as any chemistry going on -- None. I had no reason to believe that Aida was in love with Radames or vice versa. Would they ever sacrifice so much - not very likely. I would like to see this opera done in a more intimate setting where emphasis is more on the characters and less on the set.

Bad. Most of the actors couldn't act very well (very old-fashioned opera moves...bad direction, I presume). And they were a little too fat and way too old to be believable as "lovers." One, Dolora Zajick (as Amneris) was an especially bad actor and unbelievable.

Aida live from the Met in the comfort of your local movie theater! What more could one want? This is a fabulous production: grand sets and staging (the second act is a stunner), evocative costuming and above all great singing. These movies make the opera come alive in a way it doesn't even when you are there in person. The camera work is excellent., and the sound systems in the theaters are so good. It is loud, but not uncomfortable like it is in regular movies. The behind the scenes action if great fun to see.

Productions like this AIDA are why it is called GRAND Opera. Yes, these sets have been around the block a few times but, boy, do they still work! (A shame the Met didn't use their beautiful Zefferelli sets for the last HD Opera - Tosca.) Urmana (Aida), Bohta (Rhadames), and especially Zajick (Amneris) were about the best you'll ever hear in these roles. The Met Orchestra, under Gatti and the superb Met Chorus have never sounded better.
Can't wait for the next HD presentation. Thank you Metropolitan Opera and a personal thank you to Peter Gelb.

Singing, sets, costumes - all just OUTSTANDING!!!! Not a single criticism...well...the acting was mostly pretty good and I don't really know how they might have improved it - sometimes the music makes them do little walks back and forth something like the frilly bits we see in traditional Handel performances. BTW, does anyone know what was dropped (and expertly swept up by the dancer as he did his final "swoop") in the first ballet sequence?
I absolutely recommend the Encore in November to everyone!
