For the price of a Friday night ticket, don't bother. This movie has no depth. I am a DC comic, Western, action fan and I was -very- disappointed in the development of this movie. It was rather...boring. The action parts didn't flow or came on too soon. It seems like they tried to stick a movie that could have gone easily gone three hours into 1 hour and 21 minutes. The only good in the movie is the person who plays Jonah Hex, and the sidekick Irish man to the villain.

This movie was true to the story of Jonah Hex, but it seemed to be missing something. As another reviewer said, it was lacking some character development, so some things seemed flat. Unfortunately, they had so much story to tell, they couldn't fit a lot of character development in it. Perhaps if they'd made a movie out of the prologue in the first 15 minutes of the movie, they could have done a better job of this one. I think that's what made Ironman and Ironman 2 so successful - the first one was mostly development and background. This film needed it to be great. It's sad, I had gone expecting to see the background story of Hex, but they just glossed over it and went straight into the endgame with Turnbull.
I'd say see it, on a cheaper day or matinee.
If you're looking for an action flick with a western setting you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for a Jonah Hex movie, it will be good. If you're looking to learn about Jonah Hex, don't expect too much.

Malkovich always makes for a good villian, and Brolin made for a believable bad-ass! I was pleasantly surprised by this movie and would see it again. Fox was some secondary eye candy that didn't detract from the movie in my opinion. Would have preferred an R-rated version with more graphic violence.

It didn't seem to go anywhere. It seemed like it was an outline of a movie that you were just waiting to start. I wanted to like it, but i didn't. Brolin is great but they didn't give him anything thing to work with. That chick was just eye candy. Malkovich did he best he could but there wasn't much character developement anywhere in this movie. Dissapointed.

I am a big Josh Brolin fan, very disapointed in the fact he was a part of make Megan Fox a star campaign. She is not a great actress, why are we being forced to watch her. She pretty not gorgeous. Please Hollywood make her earn these roles. I would rather see her act than show off her body. I was fooled for the last time.

This movie is a cross between Ghost Rider and Pale Rider, but not nearly as good as either. And I thought it would be good to see Brolin and Malkovich square off in a western! I was dead wrong! This movie features ridiculous and preposterous gadgets like a horse-mounted Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon and pistol arrow shooters that can lift men into the air and thrust them back tens of feet! Okay, not the end of the world yet, you say? Well, it also features demons from the underworld, and a hot Megan Fox in a role that truly highlights that empty head we've been hearing about. Skip this movie at all cost!

I don't know whether this guy gets up after sleeping on goatheads or what but he needs is to get a grip. This was a GOOD movie. Josh Brolin and John Malkovich are convincing as leads. Maybe these critics just don't like their heroes ugly? Director Jimmy Hayward took a chance with reality and scored, in my opinion.

Not knowing anything about this DC Comics character, I saw this film based on the intriguing previews & from being a fan of Josh Brolin. This is a great mash-up of Civil War western, action, sci-fi/fantasy, & a little bit of horror all thrown together. Acting gets forgivably shaky/flaky at times, but the film tells a great, fascinating story that managed to hold my attention/interest through its entirety. Once again, John Malkovich is typecast as a psychotically evil villain, & Aidan Quinn does a good job in portraying President Grant. Should appeal to fans of The Wild, Wild West and The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Jonah Hex is exactly what it claims to be. A story translated from a comic book and brings with it the action, the adventure, the occasional graphic embellishment. Josh Brolin delivers a consistent and authentic performance as always. John Malkovich is also an amazing actor in this film. Worth seeing for the performances if not the true western action!

I had read some of the bad reviews before seeing Jonah Hex, and I'm honestly not sure what those moviegoers were expecting.
Jonah Hex is a very entertaining flick, and will appeal to 3 groups of movie goers. Those that like action films. Those that like comic book films, and /some/ of those that like westerns.
It's not the worlds greatest writing, but no action film ever is. It is simply a highly fun run through DC's version of the end of the old west.

Now, if you're looking for the ultimate summer blockbuster movie, this isn't it. Unfortunately, this year has been so bereft of good movies, that there simply isn't a movie so far that is worthy of the title blockbuster. However, this isn't a bad movie. The tale moves along nicely, and the scene between Jonah and the man he betrayed was particularly good. It was a good, but not great movie. It has some good things to say about revenge and forgiveness, and for that alone, it is worth a watch. It's also pleasantly escapist, if a bit dark, as a movie about Jonah Hex should be. Entertaining, slightly brooding, and just enough plot and interesting characters to keep you involved. Malkovich, as always, is an excellent villain, played with more venom than a nest of cobras.

Yes, another movie based on a comic book.....at what point does the film industry create an original, or are they too burned out that they are forced to emulate??? Sometimes, other forms of media such as books, biographies, comic books or anime should be left in their original form... that is what makes them unique. As for the film itself, I was entertained with the foreknowledge that it was not to have been taken seriously. Would I recommend it.... yes. Have fun and go along for the ride

It was ok but nothing to write home about. For one thing I'm not a big fan of the super natural reviving of the dead. That is not part of what I want to see in a western. Gatling guns on horseback probably possible but again not practical. In my book this is just a fantasy gimmick to try and attract an audience.

i was entertained, but I won't claim this movie changed my life. Most of you might want to wait for video for this one.
Hex is not nearly as deep or complex as batman or spider man, but has decent motivation.
John Malkovich is an excellent actor and always a great villain, which was balanced out by Megan Fox, who is VERY attractive, but honestly can't act that well. (her western accent is horrendous).
Anyhow, if you just want some popcorn and escapism (there are a few major plot loopholes) catch a matinee. If you want something to think about and discuss with friends, go see The A Team

Hey! I liked this film! It had a comic book style story and was reminiscent of 80's action cinema. The Native American and African-American elements gave the picture depth and added culture.
Josh Brolin plays one mean Mo Fo! Half dead and half alive, he's not your ordinary gunslinger.
And once again Megan Fox is a total FOX! She's no damsel in distress and really kicks butt.
But I think director Jimmy Hayward could have gotten more out of John Malkovich who is normally incredibly dynamic when he plays a villian. Remember him in "Con Air", "Beowulf", and "Burn After Reading"?
"Jonah Hex" isn't a Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. But If you're into seeing a new style of cowboy flic, and you can get past the "Toy Story 3" crowd, you'll get a kick and a hoot out of this one!

In the category of post-Civil War, supernaturally-infused, scarred-faced anti-hero, comic book movies Jonah Hex gets high marks (like it's the only flick to fit such a weird category)! Josh Brolin does an A+ job as the scarred vengence-seeker Hex. Malkovich, Arnett & Fox are all okay - nothing special. That said - how does an 81 minute action movie end up feeling too long? Answer: Below par story, script, editing and pacing ... and that's a shame! Could have & should have been a lot more. Needed to be "fleshed out" more and should have "lingered" a bit at some stages to create some texture. In the end it is a comic book movie about a supernaturally imbued bounty hunter roaming the old west delivering justice to evil-doers! Worth a matinee viewing or rental.

If you're looking for a comic hero a bit different from the norm, Hex just might cast a spell on you and if you're comfortable with the comic style and the super weapons/crazy guns that would have blown the minds of any Civil War soldier, the action will keep you entertained. It reexamines the assumptions of good and evil—morality tale vs, trite entertainment—by confronting the hideous compromises people make with social conventions and their own desperation. A must see!

If you have nothing else to do or see and if you have the eighty-one minutes to spare (not including time spent traveling to or from the theater), this movie is okay. See it as a matinee or better yet when it comes out on cable. Don't waste your money on an evening showing.

I went in the moving with real high hopes, but was disappointed. I like westerns, Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, but not in his badly made cow-poke stew. The story was a good one, but the acting was bellow par—especially for John Malkovich, whom I hold in some kind of high regard as an actor. The editing was choppy and the flow of the movie seemed forced. Megan Fox’s character felt like it was there simply as fluff. One of her scenes, the one you will know when you see it, had no reason to be in the movie except to show a pretty girl. The scene was jumped into, with no regard to the flow of the story and just as choppy and unexpectedly jumped out of. This is no True Grit, Silverado or Open Range, save it of the $.99 cent rental night
