Don't Waste Your Time

This was an idiotic, shrill, predictable movie whose premise was nothing more than to spend two hours on a paper thin plot line that was as insulting as it was brainless. The characters were cardboard cutouts of people, and the dystopian society it reveals is cliched to the point of silliness. I truly do understand when people have an axe to grind with the church, but I expect it to be done with some intelligence and some actual time spent in research. In this case, however, the author thought that dimwitted mockery of church combined with a poorly thought out rewrite of the vampire mythology would be enough to make a good movie. The author was severely mistaken. The result is an annoyingly dull movie whose outcome is both predictable and welcome as it signals that the victim (anyone who got suckered into paying to see it) can finally be free of it. I will say that the CGI was quite good, but good CGI alone does not a movie make. And while the action scenes were good, they were also so predictable as to make their outcome ineffective. The movie is neither fun, believable, thought provoking, exciting, nor evocative. In short, if you're looking for entertainment, look elsewhere.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Not Bad At All...

I rather enjoyed this little romp of a movie. It's not particularly philosophically deep, brooding or mysterious, but I really had a good time with it. Balancing comedy and horror is a very delicate thing, and I have seen LOTS more misses than hits. Fortunately, this movie hits the mark a lot more than it misses. Dylan Dog just wants to be left alone to run his life and his detective agency into the ground while chasing cheating spouses. Unfortunately, the underworld is alive and well in New Orleans (where else?), and its denizens need him to solve a mystery that threatens to launch a war between werewolves and vampires and destroy the whole world. It's just serious and scary enough to keep you interested, and funny enough to keep you from being mired down in the story. The creature effects are surprisingly good for an Indie, and most of the characters give a reasonably good accounting of themselves. I enjoyed it enough so that I would probably buy a copy for myself. Don't expect it to be classic theater, just expect to go and have a good time with it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Not Too Bad

Now, if you're looking for the ultimate summer blockbuster movie, this isn't it. Unfortunately, this year has been so bereft of good movies, that there simply isn't a movie so far that is worthy of the title blockbuster. However, this isn't a bad movie. The tale moves along nicely, and the scene between Jonah and the man he betrayed was particularly good. It was a good, but not great movie. It has some good things to say about revenge and forgiveness, and for that alone, it is worth a watch. It's also pleasantly escapist, if a bit dark, as a movie about Jonah Hex should be. Entertaining, slightly brooding, and just enough plot and interesting characters to keep you involved. Malkovich, as always, is an excellent villain, played with more venom than a nest of cobras.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Just Not As Funny As I'd Hoped

The movie was OK, but if you're looking for side-splitting humor, maybe you should look elsewhere. There were a few moments here and there where I got a chuckle or two, but honestly, the outtakes were MUCH funnier than the movie. It was predictable, and carried few surprises. Still, if you want a light, fluffy comedy to distract you for an hour and a half, it's probably worth a look.

Disappointing

I really wanted to like this movie, but I just couldn't. Most of the gags were either stale, not funny, or most often, both. Definitely not the Wayans brothers' best effort. Save yourself the price of movie tickets, and wait for it to come to cable. It did have a couple of laughs, and a few chuckles, but not anywhere near enough to fill this extremely weak comedy.

Bit Disappointed

Honestly, I was a little disappointed with this one. I could see exactly where everything was going from the beginning, the characters were a little too stereotypical, and the movie seemed to lack some of the heart of his earlier works. Even so, even Tyler Perry's weakest efforts are better than 95% of the stuff that Hollywood puts out there. Definitely worth seeing, but don't expect a masterwork. Just expect to be entertained and to see both actors and a movie that you will enjoy.

Not Bad

OK, you're going to have to do some major mental gymnastics in terms of suspension of disbelief, but if you can manage that, it's actually quite a fun movie. This is not a deep scientific, philosophical or psychological study, but is your basic romp. It's mindless summer fun for the sake of fun. Word of warning: this is NOT Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth, but instead is an adventure based on characters who were drawn a little too deeply into book. That is not a bad thing at all. I could have done without a few of the 3D tricks (the dental rinse and the fish immediately come to mind), but most of the rest were quite good, and most of the 3D was more a study in depth than things jumping off the screen at you (as it should be). Most of the effects were quite good, with a few stumbles here and there (the bioluminescent birds, for example, were pretty bad, but the T. Rex was good). So if you're looking for escapism and simple fun, you should check this one out.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Good Movie

My only niggle with the movie is that they showed all the best parts of the movie in the trailers, and kept nothing from the trailers that would amaze us. So when I did go to the movie, I expected more than I got. Nonetheless, it is a good movie with some good laughs, and a few genuinely touching moments. Definitely worth a watch.

Bit of a Letdown

I really did want to love this movie, but the neo-Luddite foolishness in it's so-called "message" along with its tone of victimhood (by both the evil conglomerate and the machines) kept me from being able to enjoy it as much as I would have liked. Pixar, leave the "message" movies to the people who don't have enough talent to tell a good story. Nonetheless, the animation is spectacular, it's very cute, and the character of Wall*E is wonderful, ableit borrowed from "Short Circuit."
Yes, I recommend this movie.
