If you look at the male cast, then you'd think this movie would be kick-ass good. Well, I am sorry to say it wasn't. It just does seem that Steven Soderbergh has the dexterity to direct real action. His strength has always been ensemble pieces woven together in a neatly synchronized order and he tried this formula again. Sadly, his practical approach to filmaking sapped all the excitement that this tale should have had and left it feeling flat.
There were some good moments as well as great acting however Alex Payne moves like a snail with his story development. Sideways was just as tedious to watch. It's almost like the director is stoned or something.
Watching Ghost Protocol in Imax enhanced an overworked franchise by giving it a shot of adrenaline. The site locations were impressive and the budget was enormous... but I am bored with seeing Tom Cruise in this role. He is not James Bond as he lacks the panache and believable cunning.
Robert Downey and Jude Law play off each other well so that was this movie's saving grace as was the photography. For some reason the story didn't feel as strong or exciting this time around. I was entertained but not impressed.
Michelle Williams knocked it out of the park as Ms. Monroe just like Jamie Foxx nailed Ray Charles in "Ray." The original blonde icon Marilyn Monroe is captured exquisitely and amusingly in the charming tale. I found myself talking back to the screen and seduced by the musing of the character on screen. My week with Marilyn is an Oscar contender and certainly one of the best movies of 2011.
It's amazing that Hollywood has resorted to recyling stories from yester year when there are so many writers struggling to get their scripts made. This film, however, actually presented a refreshing spin to the "Planet of the Apes" trilogy.
So much promise and so little delivered. My intuition told me that I was going to be let down and I was. The only good thing about this film was the trailer for the Avengers and I had to sit through 10 minutes of credits to get that kernel of excitement.
Justin and Mila had great chemisty and this version of no strings attached was the better version. Overall it was enjoyable mostly because of this era's Julia Roberts aka Mila Kunis. She's got "it" and the camera loves her. We all love her.
