Incredible! Worth seeing more than once! The 3D in this movie is unlike anything done before. Make sure to see it in 3D or 3D IMAX even better since the movie was filmed entirely with 3D cameras and was meant to be seen this way. You will miss so much of all the hard work and incredible visual effects of the movie if you see it non-3D. The story is also incredible. Well Done James Cameron!

Even in the second row at IMAX this is a stunning movie, I would recommend everyone go see it especially in 3D. That being said, James Cameron needs to team up with JJ Abrams for pace, and Joss Whedon for writing. He's mastered the art of getting a massive budget for a movie, having a cool idea and marketing the heck out of it. If you can totally ignore what's being said on screen and hang in there for a long movie you will have a great time like I did. I love anything with beautiful visual effects that's not directed by Michael Bay and I'm sure most folks will enjoy Avatar, go see it.

What an incredible experience. This is the kind of paradigm shift we saw with the first Star Wars movies. Avatar really raises the bar for the special effects folks. And like The Star Wars stories, this one is pretty predictable, but well acted and very beautiful in it's presentation. The only real cheese was the "unobtainium," but I can forgive that. I was persuaded and entranced. I've seen it twice now and probably will again. 5 Stars! Go see it!

The Oscars may have to come up with a new category of award for this movie. The world created here is wonderous to behold and the creatures and life forms in it are simply amazing. Excellent screen play to go along with the incredible special effects made for a great overall experience. Those who are extremely sensitive to violence may want to stay away, but other than that I have to highly recommend it to all.

The story wasn't really anything new, but the special effects were great and the usage of 3D was the best I have seen yet. It was very easy to suspend disbelief and become immersed in the world of the film.
As someone else mentioned, hit the bathroom before the movie. I would recommend skipping the soft drinks at the concession stand also - it is a very long movie!!

The most appealing aspect of Avatar is its breathtaking and extremely beautiful CG environments and effects, making it an immersive and spectacular visual experience. The artistic design of the world of Pandora, its creatures, and the advanced technology used (with a couple exceptions) was executed beyond my expectations.
The drawback of Avatar, was its predictable plot and lack of character complexity. Despite the fact that the storyline's theme was in tune with my values, its presentation was straightforward, and lacked any twists which I was hoping would keep my analytical mind occupied and intrigued.
However, I must say I was really moved by the way Pandora's inhabitants were so strongly connected with their natural environment.

We thought this was going to be a phony scifi flick - drove a ways to see it in 3-D with our daughter who is 36 years old. We were very impressed - from the special effects, the 3-d the story and even the music - kept you on your seat and the almost 3 hour movie went by in what seemed like 1 hour. i had to go home and search on the internet more about the making of this movie. perhaps not a young children's movie but perhaps for 10 and over with a parent.

Before my family first saw it (in standard 3D), my younger teenage son was cynical, claiming that it was way overhyped and couldn't possible measure up. We basically had to drag him to the theater. After the movie, both he and his older brother said they wanted to see it again.
My sons and I did see it again, this time in IMAX 3D.
We all agreed that the movie was just as good the second time around.
None of us felt that the IMAX visuals were significantly better, but we all thought the sound was much better.
I haven't seen the non-3D version, but in my opinion the 3D is not overdone, i.e. there aren't things popping out of the screen to grab your nose.

2 hours and 40 minutes went by too fast. The 3D was best I've ever seen. You have to go see it. Story-line was great also. I don't want to reveal too much. But the Avatars reminded me of the American Indians. We (earthlings) saw what we wanted and went about taking it. As always.

Be sure to see this through 3D Imax! It felt like you were there, even though the setting was a beautiful, foreign alien-world. I can't believe how far technology has come to deliver such an amazing movie. The storyline was deep and as intense as the action scenes. I don't recommend this for small children, but its great for everyone else. This movie is Oscar-worthy and will win the hearts of movie lovers all around. It's the best movie I've EVER seen!

Avatar is the reason IMAX 3D was invented. No other film I have seen to date has made such maximum use of the technology of IMAX or 3D. Don't short change yourself and see it for the first time in mere Real 3D or (God forbid!) 2D. James Cameron has created a world that can only be fully appreciated on a BIG screen. My only word of caution would be to think before taking small kids to the see the film. Avatar may be a colorful world (Ferngully on steroids) but it is also filled with some very menacing creatures (Jurassic Park on meth).

3-D hasn't improved in 30+ years. My partner and I left this movie feeling nauseous and he practically wretched. It hurt my eyes and I had to remove the glasses several times during the movie, wishing we had opted for a standard screening. Throughout the movie I kept asking myself when will this ever end?
The story was weak and completely predictable. It touches upon a few interesting socio-political topics, such as American companies raping foreign lands without respect for the indigenous inhabitants, and a connectedness with nature.
If you are easily awed by special effects you will undoubtedly enjoy this movie and question how anyone could detest the picture. If you want a quality movie experience, this picture does not deliver.

This was a visually stunning movie! A credit to the years of hard work of all involved. Saw it in 3D iMax which should be how you should try to see it if you can. Wished i had not had those two cups of coffee before because it's pretty long. Though I knew the basic plot already but was written a little better than I thought so it held my attention as the 2+ hours flew by. Right movie for this time of more awareness of global climate change and corporate disconnect from the common man. Good start to the new decade.

The story plot is predictable but still compelling. Seeing this at the 3D IMAX theater was well worth driving an hour to get to it. Absolutely stunning visual effects. We felt as if we were in the movie. Action filled. If you are afraid of heights be prepared LOL because you will be falling from things and on the edge of everything through out the movie. I was concerned that it would be just a special effects bonanza but we were drawn in to the story and that just made it that much more amazing.

I am very disappointed by the lack of innovation in the story line. We add more dimension to the screen but not to people's mind : It is an avatar of the same old story. Good people, bad people, strength and faith must win the battle. Even if the bad people seem more like us, the strategy found by the good is gathering the soldiers, be brave and fight. ! When will we be reaching a 3 D mind with more space for creative answers, for a real new world ? Technology progresses without the deeper vision being transformed. This movie could have done it ! And did not ! Is it because of the sponsors shown before the movie : Walmart supporting the troups, the National Guard, Police TV show... It is time for 3D mind with or without high-technology !

The effects and style in this movie are beautiful. The story is interesting and you develop sympathy for the plight of the aliens. The 3D brings you deeper into the scenery and overall is not over done. Highly recommend this movie experience. I have been to several IMAX theatres and the AMC Quail has the smallest screen but the largets number of seats. The sound system was not the best either but it was good enough.

I see about 80 movies per year. I have seen a lot of movies in the last fifty years. AVATAR is clearly one of the best movies I have ever seen. Three reasons: 1. The experience of this movie is more chemical than mental. I felt it. 2. There are some messages in here, but I didn't find the dangling metaphors and obvious connections to who we are as Americans as unnecessary gravity. You adopt the avatars and creatures as real. And 3. This is clearly the best 3D movie ever made. The intelligence on how it was used is dazzling and refreshing. Humans don't sense that much dimension and depth, because we don't take the time to see life that way. The movie actually gets 6 stars and I think the 3D glasses should be named CAMERONS.
