This movie was great. It was great to see the characters alive again as younger people, just starting out in their careers, and the complexity of their interactions. The special effects were fantastic, the plot engaging, and it was great to see Leonard Nimoy in his role. The time travel aspect to the plot was a bit difficult to get my mind around for certain of the details, but that didn't matter.

I was surprise how the movie turned out. Abrams and his team manage to reboot the franchise while respecting TOS timeline. The only problems with this movie was Chekov and his bad accent. You could hardly understand what the heck he was saying. The soundtrack wasn't good. They could've at least try to get James Horner or John Williams to get that "Jerry Goldsmith" feel to it. Other than that, good movie.

I would recommend this movie to any Trekkie, it gave a new twist on the plot and introduced some new faces for old faves. Enjoyed seeing Spock and Kirk young, was cool to see more of Vulcan and Kirks' joyride! Also enjoyed seeing hte Enterprise new and seeing Chekhov be a maestro with the transporter, liked how his character had humor and his accent was fun! Enjoyed seeing young Kirk jump the platform on the alien ship like a "Jedi" from Star Wars. Was a fun movie!

It was a good movie in and of itself wtf! I loved the old series and now because of this whole time travel storyline, it no longer exists!! Not only that but any newer vulcan characters no longer exist. some say its an alternate timeline? this is just upsetting, like a death in the family. and for them to have so heavily borrowed star wars storylines? of course they did all this so they can cash in on the old characters that ppl know and love. I saw it in 2d imax. sound was great. i hate the new enterprise bridge and the stupid engine that was filmed in a brewery, thats all i have to say. im in mourning.

I haven't really truly watched anything Star Trek before, so I was really surprised at how enjoyable this movie was!
I don't have anything bad to say about the movie; but the "Imax" theater we saw it in (Woodbridge, VA - AMC 18) didn't feel like a "real" Imax theater. it simply did not have the watts or experience I've come to expect from Udvar Hazy or the Smithsonian Imax theaters.
Go see this movie if you haven't already though! Trek fan or not, you will enjoy it.

I have been a fan of the tv series. I am not considered a trekkie, but my son is an avid movie goer said this one was #1 must. So, we went, and we were not dissapointed. It was exciting beginning to end, was not boring, no bad language, it had humor and the 30 million they spent on the special effects.... WORTH IT.

that's how you tell backstory! that's how you re-invent a story. my friends and i have been talking about it, and can't find anything to complain about. it was awesome! i actually could have sat through another 30min easily. all the characters were believable, and very likeable. the story was great, and the special effects were astounding. the giant imax screen and killer sound didn't hurt either. my hats off to karl urban and simon pegg, they absolutely hammered their characters. deforest and james would be proud

With 1 stroke, JJ Abrams wiped the bad taste of years of mediocre Star Trek films. Not to sound trite, but if you only see 1 Star Trek movie or 1 movie this summer or both, go see this movie, preferably in IMAX.

I would not consider myself a 'Trekker' (or even a 'Trekkie') but I am a fan of the series, and I did have some serious concerns about how true a prequel could be to the original characters. Well, it was done masterfully with a genius that was every bit the equal of Gene Roddenberry's creation ... yet the story line allows for a whole NEW universe of Star Trek for a new generation. Old-school Trek fans - whether they prefer Shatner or Stewart - should welcome the resurrection of the franchise; those with no Trek background but who enjoy great SciFi plot and action have great things to look forward to! I have never been into Star Trek, but this movie was awesome! I loved watching it in Imax, and enjoyed watching the action, and the characters. Sylar is one of my favorite characters in Heroes, and he does not disappoint. The movie stays true for the most part to the Star Trek story. I cannot wait to watch more Star Trek movies in future... I do hope they make each one as good.

I have seen all the movies and continue to enjoy all the shows in reruns. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It had laugh out loud moments, and it was as action packed as you would expect from a good Star Trek movie. Chris Pine is AMAZING as Jim Kirk. He nailed Shatner as Kirk, in style, voice, in every way. Simon Pegg sounds exactly like Scotty, but he comes into the movie much too late. I was a bit disappointed in Zachary Quinto's portrayal of Spock, since I thought he played him a bit too soft, but you can't have everything. A lot of people are complaining about the alternative timeline, but it does offer a nice opportunity to see this cast in future movies which I, for one, am excited about.

Watch it on IMAX - in a word - awesome! I've been a fan since the sixties original series. I really enjoyed this movie, thought the actors did a fantastic job of creating the characters at a much younger age. The sreen writers should get an award for the plot and story. They pulled off a great combination of original and new and kept the story moving. Most importantly, they kept it open for the future without jeapordizing went happend in the past. Go see this movie!

The main reason I went to Star Trek was because JJ Abrams was involved with it. He usually does a great job with just about anything and doesn't cave into the Hollywood gratuitous scenes. Unfortunately, it didn't happen in Star Trek. But the scenes didn't ruin the movie. Also, the movie didn't follow the original Roddenberry theme either. So if you are die hard Roddenberry fan the movie will not meet your expectations. On the other hand the movie was exciting, thoughtful, and completely entertaining. The way the original crew was woven into the movie was brillant. And at least real actors were cast for the movie unlike another director (GL). I would recommend the movie for its entertainment value.

I'm not a big Star Trek fan, I can take it or leave it. My husband is a big fan, so I have seen all of them. But, have to say this is up there with top movies for the year. It was 2 hours and 6min long and didn't seem it. It was action packed and funny. I loved the humor. I would say if you have to see it, go to IMAX nothing like seeing it on the big screen

I have seen Star Trek in all it's incarnations and have been disappointed by the last three big screen offerings. I was excited to see what J. J. Abrams could do to this aging icon. All I can say is, Mr. Abrams you are a genius! This film takes characters that I have loved for more than 30 years and gave them new energy, motivations and relevance. The action sequences are eye-popping, both those involving star ships and those of a more personal one-on-one nature. I love a good action flick, this has all of that and more. You don't have to be steeped in the lore of Star Trek to enjoy the wild exciting ride on this Enterprise.

After disasters like the Dukes of Hazard movie. I was uncertian about this movie. I was more worried when I heard when I found out it would be young actors playing the Classic Characters. I was shockingly very impressed with this movie. The Characters were captured well by the new actors and the writers. It was a new story that fit right in to the overall Star Trek Universe. Bottomline, can't wait for the next Trek movie so long as it meets or surpasses the bar set by this film. Might I suggest a film that has Characters from the TNG, Voyager, DS9, and maybe even work in Enterprise and the Original Series as well.

I was never a fan of Star Trek. The previews came out, and my boyfriend kept saying, "That is DEFINITELY a theater movie!" (A movie we'll see in the theater instead of at home.) After seeing the previews over and over, I agreed. We went yesterday to see it on IMAX. I was blown away! It has action, romance, comedy, and drama. Like some other reviews say, it's "a Star Trek for everyone". At the end of the movie, all I could say was "Wow! If they come out with sequels, we're definitely seeing them!" The acting was great, and the special effects were awesome! I would recommend this movie to everyone!

This is a nicely made movie, where they rebooted the star trek enterprise. I would highly recommend it, but still give it 4 stars, since:
1. I felt the storyline/plot was rushed.. for example, the way they beat romulans is not very well developed...it was overly simplistic. In fact, I liked starship troopers a little better in this respect.
2. They showed Kirk in a too much of a bad light, which they didnt need to. Even though he got the award at the end, if you recollect the events he hardly did anything, it was to the brilliance of the team that they acheived what did, with little contribution from Kirk. Anyway, lets see the next one in series..
Definitely not to be missed so that other forthcoming sequels can be enjoyed...

This one brings back the fun and flavour of the original series. I'm going back to see this one a second time on IMAX and I haven't seen a movie more than once on the big screen since Star Wars (the first time it came out).

This movie kicks rump from start to finish. This will be the first movie I will see twice in a theater since Pulp Fiction.
Didn't think I liked the idea of them messing with TOS. But they nailed it. It's a must see!

People who hate science fiction adventure movies won't change their minds with this one, but if you enjoy a riproaring space opera, this one is about as good as any has ever been. A few conundra remain, which may or may not have consequences in any sequels, but these can be attended to or not, as the viewer prefers, without affecting enjoyment of the movie as a spectacle.

The movie is great from start to finish, and the special effects are spectacular (George Lucas must be having a breakdown as J.J. Abrams has proved how great prequels can actually be!). Even though it is probably great on the regular screen, paying close to $20 in NYC was worth it as the entire film was just more beautiful in IMAX.
