An amazing update of an old tv show/movie series. Although I was little confused about the space-time continuum story line at times, the overal arc of the story and the development of the characters.. and, of course, the special effects were all superb. I grew up with a trekkie family, and I have been a fan of JJ Abrams as well. The Star Trek movie was great, especially in Imax. There were a couple cheesy moments in the movie, but all in all, it was great. The original Star Trek characters were well captured and reimagined (apart from one accent that didn't quite seem Russian to me). Watch for a cameo from Amanda Foreman from Felicity.

Movie seems 10 minutes long, you want it to last longer. Great story, action packed with amazing special effects and very good performaces. One of my favorite scenes is when the cadets are flying in to join various starships and the camera pans over to the brand spanking new USS Enterprise sitting there docked. You can feel the awe and wonder of those cadets as you experience all kinds of goosebumps when you see the ship completed for the first time. Star Trek fan or not you will love this movie!

action and humor were very good. the beginning of the story was good but the destruction of vulcan and spock's mother's death changed too much of star trek history. they could have accomplished everything for the plot to work without trying so hard to change the foundational history of the key non-human world, vulcan. change just for changes sake is not always good. maybe they attract some new fans but could annoy away their base. ask john mccain how that works!

I had watched Star Trek when it was prime time and have seen every variant series and all the movies as well. I, along with many, had concerns as to whether they would hold to the true image of the story line created by Gene Rodenberry. I was NOT disappointed… the characters mostly held true and the story line went beyond my expectations. I have to say that the change in the timeline means that all of the future series will never happen… causing the only disappointment I had with the whole film… oh and the dumping of the core? Um, correct me if I’m wrong, but that would have left them with out warp drive… the moment they lost warp, they would have instantly been sucked into the black hole…!

The movie was good. I had some issues with the way they have altered the time lines, but it was certainly entertaining. HOWEVER, I paid extra for the IMAX screen and this theater's IMAX screen was lame. Not at all what I have seen elsewhere, and I am NOT talking about it not being the DOME IMAX. I knew it was not going to be the DOME, but this screen was regular sized and only had a slight curve to it. The IMAX screen at Webb's Chaple Cimemark is 50% larger and has much more curve to it. Take my advice, if you want the IMAX screen, check out the screen first becasue some of them are apprently not as good as others.

Although the movie was in IMAX form, it wasn't a true IMAX location, they just coverted a normal room into one. This lead to higher temperatures so i had to take one of my shirts off and both my shoes. Despite this uncomfortable heat the movie was top notch. Spock and Kirk really made the movie for me with they're interactions both from the future and past. I'm not even Trekkie fan and found this movie to be very entertaining with its hipness and realness, along with many classics lines i remeber from shows making fun of Trek. Can't wait to see a sequel to this series.

What can I say, Star Trek rocked hard! This movie put an end to the debate over Star Trek vs Star Wars. Having watched Star Trek with my dad when I was kid, I was hesitant about how this might play out. This was EXCELLENT. For those of us in the know there were many laughs and "A-Ha" moments. For those just now being introduced to Star Trek, welcome to the party. The way this played out, new fans will be starting their voyage, and old fans will be able to look forward to more Star Trek since . . . . well, I don't want to give the movie away. Lots of surprises, lots of twists, lots of action, and the Romulans are not as ugly as they were in the old days. :)

Loved the movie, but the "IMAX" screen at the AMC 25 on 42nd street in New York is not a full size IMAX screen. It's maybe 30% bigger than a regular screen, yet they charge $5 extra per ticket. It's not the huge screen IMAX experience you expect, and want, for a big action picture like Star Trek.

The storyline was fantastic. The characters phenomenal. I just pray there will be a sequel, because this was well worth my time and money!

I am not a died-in-the-wool Trekkie but I did grow up with the original series and enjoyed Enterprise and some of Voyager so got most of the references without much coaching. I enjoyed this movie far more than I expected, and the IMAX format (sound and visual quality) really was the icing on the cake. The movie had action, humor, drama and a little romance. Best movie so far this year!

This movie was absolutely awesome! I can't seem to describe it without devolving into a 14-year-old again, unfortunately.
Yes, there are differences, but it's not intended to be a remake, but a reimagining of the series, and in that regard, it's amazing. Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock were perfectly cast, inhabiting their characters without parodying them (Pine especially, when it would be so easy to devolve into a bad Shatner impression). The remainder of the primary cast is just as amazing.
If you aren't a Trekkie, you should enjoy it, but if you are, there are so many little in-jokes that it adds to the experience (catch whose beagle Scotty uses, for one).

I do not consider myself a Treki but i enjoyed all of the action, adventure and drama of this film. I should also mention the humor because of the amount of cliche's that the audience, myself included enjoyed. Overall it was very well done!

You have to see this at an IMAX theater if one is available to you. Great (and unexpected) job or retaining all the personalities and humor of the original series. Extremely good, casting and acting in that context. Original trekkie fans will be pleased. Story was stupid and could have used a few extra hours of re-do, but the effect in an IMAX theater is great for this type of movie. Leonard Nimoy was great and it's too bad they couldn't find a role for William Shatner.
