Even true Trekies will love this movie. It has action, humor and even a little romance. It is interesting and logical how the Star Trek principals are presented in their youth.
The acting was right on. The actors did not mimic the older original charcters, but gave an essnce of them. And the action scenes and special effects were awesome.
The movie held my attention throughout. I felt uplifted and satisfied as I left the theatre.

There is no question that boldly going where no man has gone before takes on a new dimesion with a 3 story screen. The whole experience was a welcome change and the movie itself was worth the wait. The colors in the cinematography were intentionally oversaturated and they left the polarizing filter off on interiors to give lights a bigger glow (think Miami Vice, or the original Battlestar Galactica). While the larger than life feel did work, it was the clever portrayals of the characters by actors who were not afraid of the legacies they inherited that made this film work. Cudos to the new crew. You will not be disappointed if you have ever called yourself a trekkie.

I thought the film was well done, especially the casting. everyone had great chemistry. The plot moved quickly with enough action comedy and drama to keep the viewer entertained.

This film takes you where no cinematic prequel has taken you before. A perfect prequel - rarely can a film capture the essence of the original characters and modernize the story and the style, at the same time, without some part of the equation suffering. IMAX version was almost a psychedelic experience. A total adrenaline, audio and visual high. AND a near perfect script, to boot. As a lifelong treker, (follower, not obsessive) it was a dream come true and well worth the wait.

Long time Trek original fan here. I tried to go in with a mind as open as possible. Yeah of course I would have changed a few things but who's to say they would have worked any better. J.J. did an amazing job with this movie and I think most long time fans agree.
Karl Urban and Simon Pegg were great. The rest of the cast was good too but those two really stood out for me. I hope we see a few more movies with this cast!

I have never been to an IMAX performance before but, like the movie, it was out of this world. I can't think of any other way to see an action movie from this time on.
I'm not one of the real Trekkies but this movie was, in my opinion, all it was cracked up to be. Very enjoyable, with funny and moving scenes. I would definitely buy the DVD, maybe even a BlueRay disk, if I get the player.

I loved Star Trek from day one, being from that era, and am a die hard trekker. I loved this movie,and I find nothing negative. Brought some tears when I saw Spock. Loved all the characters, and they all fit the parts. Never mind that some looked a little different than their counterparts, time has a way of changing looks dramatically anyway. The acting was great,and I loved the kids. I respect J.J Abrams attention to detail and his respect for the story line. It was great to see what the NCC 1701 should have looked like in the interior. The workings of the ship were wonderful. And the cgi was amazing. I cant say enough about how much I loved this new start on a series that started the whole wonderful tale about Star Fleet.

Just saw the new Star Trek at an IMAX theatre this weekend. We never go to movie theatres anymore, but this movie is worth seeing at an IMAX. We didn't try to connect this Star Trek to previous ones, and it really stood on its own. We like Simon Pegg (even with zombie comments).

Very few movies that are re-done or updated for modern day come out well. Often there are to many expectations that come with such an Icon as Star Trek. This new release surpasses expectation. While very different from the original TV show, the characters stayed true to who they were - loved the incorporation of lines from original show. Great action and good story. Way too much use of lens flare throughout the film. Plus, I didnt like when they went to warp - no great streaks of light. Overall, really enjoyed the film. I don't see very many movies twice, this one I will go again!

I had to leave half way through the movie because of the blurring of shaky cam, fast movements etc made me sick to my stomach! I'm guessing that the story line was good....but I am not so sure that I will return to try to watch, even on a regular movie screen.

I love action packed, funny, visually rich summer blockbusters as much as the next guy, which is why I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this movie. But instead of asking the next guy, here are responses from the girls I saw this movie with:
My wife, who hates sci-fi, could not believe she actually enjoyed EVERY SINGLE MOMENT of this movie. My mother in law, fan of the series, saw the previews & thought it was not going to be a Star Trek movie at all. Although the plot did carve its own path away from most other Trek movies, she LOVED it too. My sister in law: wanted to see it again immediately.
If any other summer blockbuster wannabe's will be half as fun, Hollywood is in for an extraordinarily successful summer.

I can't say I'm a hardcore Trekkie, I've only watched a few of the shows and not all of the movies, but I LOVED this movie. It made sense in its way, the casting was fabulous, I literally felt like I was on the ship amid all the action. This is the kind of movie that I like to go to, the kind of movie I'm willing to pay full price for and the kind of movie that I will buy on DVD as soon as it comes out. But before then, I may have to go see it again in the theaters.
