The movie was awesome and I don't want to say anything to take away from the film itself. The "IMAX Experience" is not what the IMAX I was used to. Instead of a massive dome-like experienced, the "IMAX Experience" is more of a parabolic screen the size of a normal screen. Not 7 stories tall like most IMAXs. The 7 story tall one can be found w/ the same cost as this "knock-off" version.
The quality still was excellent because it was HD though.

Star Trek has something for the young and for the old time trekkers like me. It was touching, melancholy and funny! Old trekkers will appreciate the familiar one liners and the way the young cast completely embody their characters with total dignity and respect. OUTSTANDING! JJ Abrams has created an amazing film that stays true to the Trek canon. I have been a Star Trek fan for over 40 years and I LOVED IT! One of the interesting things that I frequently hear is that people without any Trek experience also loved the movie. I only have two cautions for Paramount and I hope that they are finally listening to THEIR FANS: Don't wait 3 to 5 years to make the next Star Trek movie AND Don't make the same mistake that the Bond people made(Hire another Good Director to do the follow up film.

I loved the movie, but the "I-MAX Experience", not so much.
This is "baby I-MAX" or "pseudo-IMAX", not to be confused with the "real thing", and not as impressive.
The movie wasn't shot in "IMAX", it was "converted" to it, so the effect is not nearly as good.
Charging the extra $$ and calling it IMAX is a rip-off.

Fabulous for we who have watched Star Trek from the beginning (back then we didn't know it was cheesy - thought it was cutting edge)! I loved the numerous references that we long-time fans could catch and am willing to look past those small things that don't quite jive with the previous shows/movies (spock's mom...). I especially appreciated seeing Pike in a wheelchair at the end as I just saw "The Cage" the other night.
Keep it up and I'll be there for the sequels!!!
Only caveat - if seeing in IMAX (which I recommend!), sit near back of theater and you might want to take noise-cutting earplugs if your theater insists on blasting the sound.

It is clear that J.J. Abrams did his homework for this movie. All of the character's back stories fit together. The cameo with Leonard Nimoy is fantastic. This was my first IMAX Experience. I have to say it was NOT what I expected. The screen was smaller than I have come to know IMAX to be. With that said, The screen IS larger than standard, the presentation quality was sharper, and the sound quality will blow you away! Being a Star Trek fan from way back , and knowing the original "canon" this movie introduces some odd twists. The new actors are brilliant, the action was incredibly fast paced, the writing very well done with subtle references and humor used throughout. It is a MUST see for Trekkies and a should see for everyone one else. You won't be disappointed.

I bought tickets for this movie and then realized that I had been duped. The AMC EMPIRE 25 IMAX theatre is 4.5 times smaller than an actual IMAX theatre. The Lincoln Center IMAX is 76x97 feet, while the AMC EMPIRE 25 is 28x58 feet. However, both are priced the same. I immediately called AMC Empire 25 and asked for a refund, which was difficult to get AND they wanted me to come into the theatre to get it because they needed my signature. I asked the manager to override the signature request and she did.
My friends who went said the screen was small and that they were disappointed.
They said the Star Trek movie was incredible though.

For die hards, we'll wonder why Spock is romantically linked to Uhura and how they managed to hide this film's relationship during the TV era. And just why did Star Fleet have to warp to Vulcan and Earth to halt Nero's drill to those planets' cores? Don't those planets have their own homeland security to fight off bad guys? Great SciFi movie. Plenty of edge of the seat action and a surprising kisses from Spock. It goes without saying dont miss it in iMax.
I liked the sound of the enterprise going into warp. Chris Pine is a new upcoming star.
There must be a sequel coming soon. Vulcan can not have been destroyed.

I never rate things, and I'm rating this. See it on IMAX - it's worth the extra $$. The movie is totally fun even if you're not a Star Trek fan and unfamiliar with the old shows, but it's also fun to know a few of the shout outs they make to the originals. Go see it!

Amazing.. I am not a fan of Star Trek... but the movie is really good, and you don't have to know to much about the history to enjoy the movie.....It was my first time in an IMAX... and is excellent..you have to watch this movie in the IMAX theater

I'm not sure who is ultimately responsible for the sound levels at IMAX, but let's say for starters that its the distributor who decides. And let's say they set "8" as the level (out of ten). Does AMC Empire management have the discretion to turn it down some, especially when the theatre is less than 1/3 occupied as it was at 1:10pm yesterday? I fled after 15 minutes; and although service desk was very accomodating and refunded me, I would have been much happier to have seen StarTrek at less than "assaultive" sound levels. I had to check Y or N above, but I do so only because of the total disregard for the audience's comfort.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I spent the $5 extra for the IMAX-lite version of the movie and it was well worth it. While note 75 feet wide, it was like watching a 30 foot wide plasma TV. Brilliant picture, incredible detail, awesome sound.
The Star Trek movie was excellent. Great actors who played the roles in the spirit of the original cast. The story line stands by itself yet hooks back into Star Trek lore for fans who know it. Special effects are well thought out so that they provide both the back drop and some of the main elements of the movie.
