I'm a regular viewer of Lost, and have seen Cloverfield. While I'm addicted to the former and wasn't too overly thrilled with the latter, this one really blew me away. The effects were great, but more importantly the acting was just about perfect. Kirk was good and cocky as he should be, Spock was methodical, but showed emotions when the time came to show them. Neemoy was great reprising his role. Just wish they brought Scotty in sooner, loved his funny remarks. Only thing that seemed odd was how black holes work, but otherwise explainations seemed good enough for any time/space manipulations.

This is the only way to see this movie! From the initial moments, which exploded with action, to the end of the movie - IMax delivered great graphics and sound. This was a really great way to bring Star Trek back to the masses. Hopefully, this will breathe new life into a follow-on Star Trek show for TV.

Saw this film in IMAX, a must to get the full appreciation of the special effects. Movie is well written and faithful to the original series, but still can be viewed and enjoyed by non-trekkies as well. Both central characters Chris Pine Zachary Quinto very adaptly fill Shatner's& Nimoy's shoes.
Speaking of Nimoy it was a treat to see him on the big screen as Spock , and was glad to see that his role was an integral part to the story telling. Simon Pegg also does a great job of bringing the comic relief he is known for and for seen stealing.
Heartily, recommended this film to a friend who knows nothing about Star Trek...we will be seeing it, next weekend. I will gladly pay to see this gem again!

The movie was full of great special effects and action. The characters were true to the molds of the original cast and you can actually believe they are younger versions of the crew we know so well. I like the references to Trek lore.
I didn't like the one event that changes the whole history of Star Trek. I kept waiting for the time traveling gimic to set things back to normal. If there wasn't so much history to Star Trek, this creative plot would have been fine. But with the Trek universe, we have an expectation for certain events throughout the Trek timeline. All of that is now invalidated and that leaves me with mixed feelings.

I've been a Star Trek fan since I was a teenager (now in my 50s) and I attended this movie with other family members ranging in age from 36 to 72 (2 of whom never watched any form of "Star Trek"). Everybody thoroughly enjoyed this film. As a fan you'll enjoy all the recognizable characterizations but even someone new to Star Trek can easily follow and appreciate the characters. Great story, great casting, plenty of action and plenty of humor. I can't wait to own a copy of the DVD when it's out and especially can't wait until the next installment hits the theaters! Go see it - you'll love it!

Been watching TV, every incarnation and all movies, since birth and this knocked my socks off. Amazing what filmmakers and actors pulled off here. Awesome!
BTW, after watching in both regular screen and IMAX, I'd say paying to see in IMAX was worth it -- superior picture quality and awesome sound. With some movies, it's not worth it, but with a space movie with a great soundtrack like this, the IMAX worked great!

We had 7 in our group ranging from ages 6 to 42. We all enjoyed it. Great action, great lines from old Star Trek past, great acting, a couple of scenes may have been a little questoinable for the kids we had with us. But really not too bad. We all left really happy we went!

Great movie- nice script, plot, villain and acting. Good special effects as well. Did a good job of meshing both TREK era's - even if you are not a trekkie, you will enjoy the film based on its merits alone. So many ways they could have screwed this up considering the long successful history of this series and the educated awareness of old experienced fans. All I can say is WOW! This not only extends and revitalizes this very successful series, it actually fills voids that were left empty by previous accounts. Very true to the original concept. What they are doing is setting up the Star Trek franchise for a new generation, and maybe that isn't bad. The choice of Chris Pine as Captain Kirk was questionable, but everyone else plays their role true to the spirit of the original characters. The movie was billed as showing us the early years of the merry band of space adventurers, but I felt it glossed over the formative Starfleet Academy part of the back story.
Instead we get another shoot-em-up that shows us that this Kirk is luckier than he is smart. Special effects dazzle us to forget that nothing of consequence really happened here. Only the development of Spock's character was done true justice. Let's hope the next film shows us more substance of these rich characters.

This movie was great for what it was, an action packed sci fi event. However as an old shcool trekkie I do have issues with this movie that for now will prvent me from really considering this a part of the Star Trek universe. There were many many areas where established mythology was blatantly ignored and the movie in general completely alters the history of the Federation in a manner that I am sure Gener Roddenberry would never have approved of. I understand that Paramount is making a bold attempt to bring Star Trek to a whole new audience, but they are adoing so at the risk of losing viewership from the three previous generations who have made the franchise a succes.

...or exceeded. The movie was well made and the cast was great. I wasn't looking forward to seeing John Cho or Simon Pegg, but they played their parts better than I was thinking they would. It was a lot of fun, very humorous (although it seemed a bit over the top or campy at times). I'm not a huge fan of the series but the past stories didn't come into play much at all. Some slight character background helps a bit, but this is definitely a flick you can bring your girlfriend to.

The Cast, Writing, Directing, were all good Choices.

As a summer, popcorn Blockbuster, I definitely recommend this film. The experience in IMAX was incredible. The picture size/quality combined with the digital surround sound made this an amazing movie experience. Due to the scope, pace, visuals, humor and portrayal of most of the characters, I found myself really enjoying Star Trek XI as a generic sci-fi adventure film rather than as a Star Trek film specifically. I'm also quite certain that this movie will lose a LOT in the translation to the small screen. I would recommend seeing it in the theater, and on IMAX if at all possible. You won't regret it. My wife and I drove 2 hours to see this movie on IMAX and enjoyed every minute of it.

I have been waiting 40 years for a decent Star Trek Film. Great re-characterizations of the original crew. Interesting way to introduce a whole new genre of adventures without throwing away the original series.

This was an excellent and humorous movie that was well acted, directed and written.
You do not need to know anything about Star Trek to watch this movie.
A few twists in regards to Spock will make you scratch your head and you may expect more from the battle scenes.
All IMAX screens will give you slightly bigger display, digital projection and better sound...BUT many IMAX theatres like the ones one by my house (aka "LIEMAX") does utilize the super large display you are accustomed to with IMAX. But still worth the extra $2 or $3 nevertheless.

The new Star Trek Movie is a good foundation work for a revived new franchise....however, seeing in the digitally re-worked for IMAX experience...was a bit of a let down...IE: go see it in a normal theater with a big screen and sound system....save to extra bucks it costs for IMAX to get a bag of popcorn.

This was our first time seeing a movie at the IMAX theater and this was the perfect movie to see there. The movie action packed, we loved it. We loved that it didn't stray too far from the original.
