Being a long time Star Trek fan of the original TV series, I was a little apprehensive about a movie "prequel", a gimmick I don't usually care for. But this was done well, the story was excellent and so were the actors.
Long time fans will not be disappointed with the new actors playing the young characters. The casting was spot on.
Those not familiar with the franchise will be drawn in as well. Lots of action but a great story line. I look forward to sequels to the prequel!

I loved this movie, the special effects, the casting, the script. It's without a doubt one of the best Star Trek films made. However, I don't like all of the shaky camera scenes, and quick cut away shots. I like to be able to identify and contemplate all of what I am looking at. Too much of it goes by too fast. They shot it that way on purpose, but it had too much of an MTV video feel. Star Trek, I feel should be savored and absorbed, like an exquisite feast not rushed through like a fast food drive through.

This movie was incredible. I left the theater with the same feeling I had after seeing The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings. The feeling that I just witnessed something epic and historic all at once. The cast is great, the effects are truly groundbreaking. Will watch this movie again and again. Can't wait for the sequel!

I really liked this movie. I am an original "trekkie" before it was a cliche' club. My dad and I use to watch it every day at 6pm. The characters were good, finally got to see why Ahora was always looking at Spock the way she did. I love Star Trek because it was one of the first shows to give the message "you are who you are and it doesn't matter who you love". The action was great; the special effects even better. Makeup and scenes were smooth, not choppy. And I'm really glad to have seen it in IMAX. it was "that BIG". Thanks! Everyone who likes Star Trek should go see this and even if you aren't an "Original" go see it for the great Sci-Fi.

the movie was just terrific, the story line was spot on especially to bring the younger crowd up to speed and for future generations. The spock storyline was the best with leonard nemoy reprising his role made the whole movie come together. The imax experience at the place i saw it at was pretty sub par compared to ther screens ive gone to it really was just an overgrown screen with great sound so i didnt really get the whole IMAX experience that probably would of made it worth the extra money spent for this.

I took my 15 year old daughter who never watched Star Trek and she loved it , she wants to go see it again. I am a ST fan and really liked the way they set up how everyone got started. I will go see it again. IMAX was worth every penny.

This movie came with high expectations, and fulfilled them all. The casting was spot on, the writing was excellent, and even the unashamed fan service was smoothly integrated with the story.
I missed out on IMAX the first time I went to see the movie, and loved it enough to come back for it. Sitting in the front row, the foreshortening made everyone's chins look like Bruce Campbell's. I was very impressed with the injury makeup continuity, which movies are often terrible at. Even in the last scenes, Kirk (and Sulu) still had scars from earlier scenes, including around his mouth from the first bar fight. If they keep this up he's gonna be pretty grizzled within a few movies.

I used to think that Star Trek: First Contact was the best of all the Star Trek movies,but none of them had the kind of action I felt they should have had. This new film, with fantastic writing by Alex Kurtzman and equally fantastic directing by J.J. Abrams should satisfy any fan. The new actors easily superceded the original actors in assuming the beloved characters of the original bridge crew. I hope the next Star Trek movie will be even better. Imax is great, but what about 3-D? That would be "out of this world"!

If you don't get to see this movie in IMAX you missed something so great it is very sad. I saw this movie twice opening day & yesterday. I waited on opening day for two hours on line for the 2:15 AM showing & it was all worth it. The characteristics of old characters was done just right. New Spock & Old Spock together was genius [ like kirk ;) ] The special effects was done just right. Every character brings something special can't imagen it with out anyone of them.
My mom is a huge Star Trek fan she grew up with the series & movies. I took her yesterday & she just loved it.

I saw this movie in IMAX in Columbia, MD with my wife. I'm not a Treky, but I did think the movie was pretty good. The fact that you're even reading this review and not sitting in the IMAX version of the movie qualifies you as so out of the loop, you should be drafted to Star Fleet. . My one disappointment was the spartan use of Zulu. Abrams virtually minimized his performance to that of an extra. And Chekov rocks as much as Bones. Spock and Uhura steal the show. It's worth witnessing Uhura's spectacular beauty and talent alone. That's something sfx can never acheive.

Our family really enjoyed Star Trek and especially enjoyed seeing it in the IMAX theater. the digital imagery was great and the sound felt like we were right there. go see it and see it in IMAX.

Fun Movie. Way cool on an IMAX screen. Loved all the actors, great story, super special effects, fun touches of humor, and little references to past Star Trek movies and TV series. See it!
