Great casting, scenery, and costumes! The replay of how he figures out the clues is a great approach but sometimes played back too quickly to grasp all the clues. There will obviously be a sequel and I hope it has more depth...faster moving storyline, more passion between Irene & Sherlock, more humor...

I found this move darned enjoyable: a fresh new take on the Holmes series, but still stayed true to the books. FX were well done, for the most part, and not ridiculously gory or over-the-top like so many movies today. I went into it skeptical, but the performances by Downey and Law were also a real treat.

I thought the movie was fabulous! Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and the entire cast were wonderful. I was taken in with the filming and scenery and when it ended, I wished there were more. A definite must see if you enjoy tongue ain cheek humor.

I was looking forward to his movie after seeing the trailer. I think the trailer was the highlight. The movie was boring and the Holmes character will be a big dissapointment to those who have ever read Sherlock Holmes or watched the old movies. This is a complete departure from the sauve and cool Holmes who uses his intellect to overcome his enemies. The Brits would have made this movie better. This is typical Hollywood, same man, same character, just a different age and setting.
The author would be spinning in his grave to see his character represented in this way.

Both my husband and I enjoyed the exciting plot and scientific deductions in this movie. Robert Downey Jr was superb in portraying the eccentric Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law was a great pick for the wonderful Dr. Watson. The only downfall of the movie was the level of violence was shocking and sometimes violent scenes were replayed.

terrible film,plot labyrinthine and tedious, violence largely superfluous, attempts at humour poorly staged and ineffective,trermendous london scenes wasted in a pathetic storyline, I feel sorry for the actors, guy ritchie mangles the conan doyle mystique,much too long,worse part is that the blethering at the end about moriarty promises a sequel.

What can you say about Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as Holmes and Watson but YUMMY!!
Great to look at and they give us reason to laugh out loud in this movie. An added plus to this movie is that for those of us who love our movies to make us think, it's a winner. Clever dialogue a constant and the gift of hidden clues, both in dialogue and visually, made this one of the most entertaining movies I've had the pleasure of watching in a very long time. Go, sit back, but don't relax too much! You'll miss out on your powers of deduction if you do.

Not much I can add but I can endorse the very postivie comments already made. The movie presents a very different Sherlock with enough of teh aspects of teh old Sherlock to make the character entirely believable. Watson was a farther streatch for me in fact than Sherlock. I did think it a bit tedious that Sherlock and Watson faught constantly. Downey is his usualy, smirking, dont-take-me-too-serious actor with the enevitable quips and one liners. The CGI is entirely seemless and does not get in the way in teh least. The plot is very Sherlock-ish and the character development sterling.
Just go see it. You will not be sorry.

Sherlock Holmes was a master tactician in solving crimes and mysteries! This clearly comes through in the movie. I love Basil Rathbone in this role but I find Robert Downey, Jr and Jude Law refreshing and able to bring this classic back to life for the new generation. Listen closely so you don't miss anything!

This was a good movie with really fun effects. Downey was the reason I went to see it & I was not disappointed. If you pay attention to the movie you will have no problem understanding a word anyone is saying. There were some funny moments that if you weren't really listening you would've missed. The only problem I had hearing stemmed from New Moon playing in the next room & no one shutting the door!

Robert Downey Jr. is simply a magnificent actor. Having him play an out of control Holmes seems a perfect choice.
I loved the "here's what I'll do" and "watch me do it" scenes -- brilliant!
The chemistry between Holmes and Waston -- well done!
Rachel McAdams continues to bring believable characters to the screen.
I'm normally not interested in period films -- this one has changed my mind.
There wasn't, of course, enough Moriarty. But I'm sure there will be as this film seems to be the beginning of a series.

I love all Guy Ritchie movies, but I give this a B-. I love Robert Downey Jr. forever, but he mumbled too much - it was hard to get 'into' the film as I spent too much time trying to figure out what was going on, or what people were saying. Robert and Jude Law had great chemistry. Robert and Rachel McAdams did not.
It had a fantastic explosion scene and it had much of the physicality that you'd expect from Ritchie's movies. He also knows how to build tension. Also - Where was the music? I love the music of a Ritchie film. I don't care if it's a period piece, that's part of the fun for me. Liked the movie - The sets were amazing and I would see it again just to browse. But if I look at my watch during a movie, it's not a winner.

'Sherlock Holmes' is another one of Robert Downey Jr.'s persona takeovers, as in 'Iron Man'. If you want to see Sherlock the way you remember him in the past, you probably won't like this movie. Sherlock is all Robert, masterfully done. This one also has a lot more action than previous versions. One more warning is that the story is set in the (beautifully done) gritty, second industrial revolution atmosphere. If you're looking for bright and cheery, you won't find it here, but there are some great bits of humor to lighten the mood. Going into this movie without preconceived notions, I found it to be excellent.
