This movie had a lot of potential with good acting and story line, but was limited by poor writing and by another thing that can make a good movie great - the music. There were also a lot of distracting technical errors and dialogs that weren't believable. 'Broken City' had the appearance of a movie made by someone who was either a novice, or someone who just didn't care very much about the final product. It's not a bad movie. Just not as good as it could have been.
'The Adjustment Bureau' has fantasy, science fiction, action, and romance. It tells an interesting story, is well cast, and has good acting. I can't think of anything bad about it. I loved it.
The sound track of 'Tron: Legacy' made the movie for me. Without the sound track and special effects, it would be a below average film. Don't pay extra for the 3D version as I did. There is very little 3D in the movie, and none of the popping out of the screen 3D. Definitely not worth the extra money.
If you are naturally jumpy or scare easily, 'Paranormal Activity 2' might tickle your fancy, but it was totally boring to me. If you saw the scenes in the trailer that showed security camera footage of different views of the interior and exterior of the home with the time running at the bottom of the screen, but nothing else happening, then you have seen eighty percent of the movie. Another fifteen percent was the family going through their normal routine. The final five percent was abnormal activity, but it took a full hour of the movie to get to the first instance of it. If you decide to see it, don't worry about arriving late. You won't miss anything.
'Killers' is a bit different than what the trailer leads you to believe, but it is still somewhat fun, light entertainment. The main actors were fun to watch, as they usually are, but the movie is a blend of reality and craziness that didn't mesh well at times. It should have been more one or the other. It's not at the top of the list of movies to see, but if you have the extra time to spend, it's good for a few laughs.
The most positive thing that I noticed about 'The A-Team' was that it was very professionally made in all aspects. I believe the casting could have been better, but the actors that were chosen definitely did their best. This should be classified as an action/comedy movie. It's not a comedy, but the characters were frivolous enough to keep the otherwise serious predicaments light-hearted and humorous. The action was almost constant, with top-notch special effects. It's a fun and wild ride well worth taking!
The first half of 'Get Him to the Greek' is five star. It's full of clever lines, perfectly delivered. Very funny. The second half is not as good. Not get up and leave bad, but brings the overall rating down to a four. Jonah Hill is funny in his usual way, but what surprised me was how good Russel Brand was in his part. There is a lot of bad language, but for some reason it isn't that offensive in this context. A movie surprisingly worth seeing.
I found 'Sex and the City 2' to be the typical desperate attempt to milk a franchise for its last drop by taking the characters to another country. Having said that, I nonetheless enjoyed the lavish sets and the moral of appreciating what you have. The thing that was really bad was the portrayal of Samantha as the proverbial 'Ugly American'. She had no respect at all for the customs and laws of the country she was visiting. Her actions were supposed to strike a blow for women’s liberation in Abu Dhabi, but were done in such a crass manner that it had the opposite effect. If you can stomach that, it’s an otherwise enjoyable light entertainment movie.
A great movie has great acting and great 'everything else'. A good movie has one or the other, but not both. 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' fits into the latter category. The story, filming, fight scenes, editing, and special effects were great, as were some of the supporting actors, but Jake Gyllenhall is an empty suit. He gave no character to his part, which kept this movie from being great. A good actor can transform an otherwise average movie into a good movie. An average actor can transform a great film into a good one. That's what happened here. It's worth seeing for everything else, but it's sad that it's not great, because it could have been.
