Not the traditional Holmes character (less cerebral, more physical and flaws evident) but still enjoyable. I liked the interaction between Downey Jr. and Law; good banter. Watson has a stronger presence in this version, being more Holmes' equal rather a supporting character. Set decoration and costumes were well done.

This movie was a lot of fun. Robert Downey & Jude Law bring a witty and lovable jerk quality to this old story. Something of a cross between Indiana Jones & a mystery thriller. This should be a fun franchise for years to come!

Words can't really explain how much i loved this movie! However, i can say that I will most likely see this movie at least 4 more times while it's in theaters & buy it on DVD. Everbody should see this movie @ least once.

Downey & Law had great chemistry. Different then the old Basil Rathbone movies that rarely gave Watson any credit. Just when you think Holmes has been outwitted you realize that it was only the audience that missed the clues. Definitely one to see and to buy on DVD. Can't wait for the sequel.

Robert Downey Jr. is the best Sherlock ever. I look forward to many sequels. And Jude Law was such an excellent Watson. They both portrayed the characters more akin to the orignal writings compared to the old Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce portrayals. I rarely buy DVDs but this one might have to be a purchase when available.

Started a little slow but once it got rolling it had a good story line. Fun movie to see and analyse w/ teenaged children. VG special effects.

Okay, it's a Guy Ritchie movie set about 100 years ago but it had two appealing actors in it that will keep you entertained for two hours.
You never quite take to Sherlock Holmes as a dirty brawler but it's fun it its own way.

I'm a huge Holmes fan and, to be honest, was expecting to find this portrayal of Holmes incredibly annoying. As it was, although inaccurate, I really enjoyed the movie. The big drawback, however, was Downey's speed of speech and his mumbling. For someone with an issue with accents (which was excellent) or with hearing issues, I would suggest waiting until you can get subtitles. I can picture my father saying, "what did he say?" throughout the movie.

Above all I found this movie absolutely beautiful to watch. The time period was beautifully recreated and filmed. Sherlock Holmes was a different character than I grew up with but delightful just the same. Loved the on screen chemistry between Downey and Law and the witty repartee. Interesting story line too.
Only negative was that I sometimes found it difficult to keep up with the dialogue and accents. Not difficult but a little tricky.

While I enjoyed the movie, parts of it irked me as a Holmes purist. Holmes was a cocaine addict not an alcoholic, he admired Irene Adler for her brain (she actually outsmarted him) not her body and he really had no sense of humor. The movie was a touch long but the action was good.

Excellent movie! I will go see it again! Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law make an awesome acting duo, they gel and compliment each other's style on film. This movie is very well calculated & compulsive. It will intrigue the biggest sceptic!

Loved this movie. Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorite fictional characters. While not technically the Holmes from Doyle's imagination, it is beautifully constructed from the threads from The Stand magazine, the serials that Doyle wrote. Loved the soundtrack!!

Movie was more than a little disapointing. It was needlessly long. I really enjoyed the comraderie between R. Downey Jr. and Jude Law. R. McAdams was a very capable and beautiful addition to the cast. However the depiction of S. Holmes as a strange, sloppy, and possibly slightly insane character, does not fit with the literary characterization of Holmes, that we have all come to know and enjoy over the years. Still the sets were very astonishing crafted, and the supporting cast was excellent. If the movie had been called something other than Sherlock Holmes maybe I would not have been so disapointed. However the length was a little to much and quit a few unecessary dead spots. Wait for DVD.

This was a very good movie and wouldn't have a problem telling everyone I know that they should see it. I think a little different from most Sherlock Holmes, but never the less very good and won't mind seeing again if I get the chance.
It was a little on the light side for a Sherlock Holmes, but to me that made it that much better. There was still plenty of action and everything else that makes a good Sherlock Homes.

At the pitch for this movie, I presume the screenwriter said something like, "It's Sherlock Holmes plus Poochie!" I think that's pretty much the only distinctive feature of this Sherlock Holmes.
Otherwise, the film is completely soulless: Robert Downey, Jr., of all people, phones it in, bringing only an English accent and some Monk-like hand movements; he and Jude Law have no chemistry as Watson and Holmes, but the audience is expected to think, "ah, you rascals!" Rachel McAdams is superfluous, present only as the obligatory love-interest. No fights are exciting, no twists are unexpected, and the sepia-look of the film came out of _Tim Burton for Dummies_.
Avoid this movie.

Being a fan of the novels made me want to see this more. I wanted to see what Guy Ritchie brought to the table and he did not disappoint.
Robert Downey Jr's performance was spot on and finally a director nailed Watson the way he was suppose to be a Solider, a man of intellect, and not a bumbler. And Jude Law did an outstanding job as Watson.

If you seen the trailer of all action parts. You just seen the movie. Robert Downey couldn't hear him cause he talked to low. Another great actor Jude Law wasn't much of a help. the movie wasn't entertaining so take my advice. Wait till it come out on DVD. So far, Avatar is the movie. Haven't seen nine yet....

Basil is rolling in his grave, Baker Street fans will find it highly irregular and look what happens when Guy Ritchie gets a big budget and "A" list stars. Good movie, but a bit long and, literally, overblown. Other Ritchie movies have been more violent with far fewer explosions. Also, do we really need to half open the closet on childhood heroes? I liked the movie. It was entertaining, but it wasn't really Holmes and Watson.

While not a good choice for a Holmes purist, the movie is overall fun. Having both Holmes and Watson take a much more physical approach is definitely not traditional. Holmes retains his powers of deduction although Downey, Jr., strays far afield from the Rathbone version. Jude Law presents a stronger Watson not in keeping with tradition. Dare I call this the "Rambo" version of Sherlock Holmes?

I have always been a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories. This version is fast-moving and action packed. Robert Downing Jr. and Jude Law are both great. I would recommend Sherlock Holmes to any movie goer.

The scenery was fantastic special effects fantastic and the acting is the same. If you are a Sherlock Holmes fan you will love this movie. If you are not you will still love the sets the acting and can't wait for the sequel.
