Better than any of the SH books. One of the more fun movies of the year. Well done both from an acting and technical point of view. Robert Downy is back in his grove with another serious effort in the world of cereal movies. Can't wait for Rocket Man 2.

I looked forward to Guy Ritchie and his actors reinterpreting Sherlock Holmes. I left disappointed: all the ingredients were in place, but the finished product came out unsatisfying.
Jude Law served his role well. Rachel McAdams did not: she struck a discordant note almost from her introduction. Robert Downey Jr. had his moments, but I would have appreciated his work far more if the theater hadn't screened a trailer for Iron Man 2 immediately before the film - I caught myself wondering why Tony Stark was in Victorian England.
Guy Ritchie might have been better served by not trying to incorporate some of his signature touches into this movie: occasionally, it felt like I was watching "Lock, Stock and 221B Baker Street".
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The story was strong. The visual effects were stunning. The characters were compelling. My only complaint was that at times the pacing of the dialog was too quick to follow. The writers were trying a bit too hard to be witty, something they did not need to do with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

Excellent story, interesting and well played characters and non-stop action from start to finish. This was a fun ride. Robert Downey and Jude Law - as Holmes and Watson - are great partners in crime-fighting; Rachel MacAdams is a gorgeous and dangerous femme fatale. Guy Ritchie knows how to dial in on detail and action. The production design is first rate. "Sherlock Holmes" should appeal to anyone who enjoys a real movie-movie, especially one with an involving storyline.. The only negative. It's a little bit long.

All characters were played with strength and actually no one stole the show. Robert Downey, Jr. was superb, handsome and even humble at times, Rachel McAdams was beautiful and was a perfect fit for Downey and Law. Jude Law gave an excellent performance as Dr. Watson and you actually sense a true friendship between himself and Holmes. A must see movie!

I thought the 're-inventing' of Holmes would be distracting, but it wasn't. The action scenes were great, especially the ones that where we get a preview of the upcoming action via Holmes' thoughts and in slow motion.

Husband and I just saw this last night for our anniversary and we are in our late 30's. Most of the time we can figure out the end of most movies. This movie is BRILLIANT! Will keep you wanting more and Robert Downey, Jr's. Sherlock is wonderful. Jude Law is the perfect compliment to RDJ. Go see it and enjoy it for what it is...a great movie!

This film is Not good. There was no reason to call it Sherlock Holmes since there is absolutely no resemblance to the original character. I understand this was to be an updated version but frankly it did not make much sense. It just an action film with an almost non existent story. I got bored waiting for it to get better. YAWN

Well, I had high expectations for this movie until my friend told me that he had seen it and that he could not understand the talking because of the accents and that it was not as good as he had hoped (I am being kind.). I went with my wife who left early. We arrived in separate cars and she usually would not like this kind of loud shoot em up type of movie but I usually do. I felt that the characters all looked good but there was no real chemistry between them. I did like certain aspects such as the showing of Holme's deductive reasoning, liked that alot. Not enough of it and though and the movie felt a bit disjointed. I liked movie enough and would probably recommend it but with an asterisk.

What really makes this film is the outstanding ability of its actors. Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams make a wonderful trio that keeps you engaged for the entire movie. The costumes and visual effects are phenomenal! I recommend this movie to any thrill seeking individual.

As a fan of the characters, and critic of Doyles stories, I was happily surprised with the changes made to the characters. Downey, as Holmes, was in great form, and the mystery was fun to watch unravel. Great action scenes. My only complaint was Irene Adler. I hope she isn't a reoccurring character. I think the bond between Holmes and Watson is more interesting and fulfulling than any romantic tension McAdams can supply. Speaking of Watson - AWESOME! It is so great to have a Watson you can really get behind. Jude Law was perfect. I loved this movie. And the sets were amazing, detailed, moody and transported me thoroughly. Kudos to the production staff. And the guy that played Lestrade - perfect.

This is a young and "active" Holmes, good with both his fists and his brain. The movie combines both non-stop action and the deductive power you would expect from a Holmes movie. Watson is an equal partner, equally good with both his fists and guns. If you are puzzled during the movie, don't worry, all is explained in the end in a typical Holmes fashion. Highly entertaining.

This movie was very entertaining! Great action and a lot of witty humor, much more British than American in terms of humor. Guy Ritchie is a great director! Robert Downey and Jude Law are a good team and make a great pair in this movie. The writing was excellent. They really brought out the brilliance of Holmes's extraordinarily detailed mind. Worth your time and money. Not too bad for the kids either, perhaps a few violent scenes, but there were plenty of kids there that looked to be around 10 years old.

I feel that movie are just to entertain and to help you forget about the outside world for an hour or so. Sherlock Holmes did just that, it was actioned pack and full of surprises. I would highly recommend this movie

I have always been a fan of Robert Downey Jr, I like Jude Law and always find Rachel McAdams compelling. This movie does nothing to change my mind, in fact I am even more of a fan of all three actors.
The story line is very interesting, the acting fantastic and had enough action and comedy for any viewer!

An intellectual mystery, rousing fight scenes, and more wit than Watson could shake his cane at. If you were expecting a hum-drum rehash of any number of old plots from the books, prepare to be pleasantly surprised! Sherlock Holmes manages to take a completely new twist on the franchise, and yet remain true to its roots of the old stories. Holmes has a history of debunking mysticism, and he proudly carries on that tradition in this film.

Robert Downey Jr is a national treasure. I did not think Rachel McAdams was well cast in this. She looked way too young and way too made up. She's a great actress, though.
I didn't think I was going to enjoy this as much as I did! I even liked Jude Law.

Yes, it is true, it is not your grandfathers Sherlock Holmes but it brings the story to this generation's eyes. I felt the update was perfect while still keeping the basic essence of Arthur Conan Doyle's story telling. It was action packed exciting and an all around great movie. Go see it.

The first half of the movie is fairly incoherent and drags on. The second half of the movie is only slightly better You truly have to wait until the very end of the movie where an attempt is made to tie up the numerous loose ends that required explanation. The cult angle used in the story is stale and unimaginative. The same script could have been used for a "Wild Wild West" movie or an "Indiana Jones" movie which makes the choice to use it as a Sherlock Holmes movie even more ridiculous.
