The movie overall was very dry. It lacked the "climax" that one would expect from a charector that they have read about in one of the novels. I would not reccommend this movie based on that alone.

very entertaining; not a big RDJ or Jude Law fan, but I was impressed. Rachel McAdams was also very good. Story moved along very well, interesting plot, kept my interest and kept me thinking. Good ending and am hoping there wll be more! RDJ and Law are great together, caped crusaders without the capes.

We thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The plot was fun and fast paced and kept your attention the whole time! The cast was excellent and some of the best work I've seen Downey do! We'd see it again and likely will buy it when it comes out on DVD!

I can only review half the movie since my wife and I decided to leave half way through. It was not Sherock Holmes in any recognizable way. The movie tried to be all things to all people with violence, occult, shock, romance, stereotypes, slo mo, flashbacks and hipness. On the edge of boring and without the charm that comes with period films. It had a good look and good acting but might have benifited if not connected to a known character like Sherlock Holmes. Some will like it as eye candy and entertainment, others will dispise it for it's creative liscense and hollow story.

The only thing missing was the original Sherlock Holmes hat and pipe. A lot of the time I had to remember I was watching a movie about Sherlock Holmes and not just a period piece action movie.

Overall a good movie. The dialogue was a bit hard to follow at first. It got easier as the movie went on. If your a fan of the old Sherlock Holmes movies, this is definietly an updated version. Thought it was a competent updating of characters, in spite of the liberties taken with Doyle's literary versions, it did use Doyle's descriptions of Holme's to portray his physical and mental prowess. Dialogue was a bit too low and dull to be understood at times. It did drag in spots and could have been at least 30 minutes shorter. Downey plays eccentric very well and Law did a fine job as Watson. On the whole it was an entertaining movie.

RDJ was fantastic, and I liked the overall plot and they way they did flashbacks and stuff. BUT way too many, and too long, fight scenes. If I was home, I'd be fast forwarding. I had a few other problems with it, but if I went into it here it would spoil the movie for others.
My recommendation: wait and rent it in a few months.

I would have loved to give this a 5/5, but I had one major beef with it: Robert Downey, Jr.'s horrible attempt at a English accent. Ouch!

While this movie may disappoint die hard SH fans, it is an excellent updating of the legend. With lots of action and a great interpretation of the relationship between Holmes and Watson, this movie will bring a lot of the younger generation to the Holmes stories in print. Enjoyed the action, well filmed to keep excitement levels high. The script was well thought out but not classic Holmes which would not work well today anyway (compare to the older Holmes movies). Robert Downey Jr was wellcast, however, I really enjoyed the new twist on Dr. Watson by Jude Law which enhanced the action to a more investigative Holmes. Both acted well together for a humorous action movie.
