Saw this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a great scene when Julia and Paul Child are looking for Julia's sister at the train station. It was the best evocation of two Americans reuniting on a Paris train station platform I've ever seen. I know it doesn't sound like much, but great acting comes out of such small moments. This movie has plenty of them. Unfortunately, the scenes in Queens and New York city seem claustrophobic by comparison. That is where the movie fails. The conceit around cooking through a book written over 40 years ago falls flat, mainly because Julia Child's life and work were so much more than a basis for someone's blog to-do list.

We took our 20 year old son, who is in college studying culinary arts, to see this movie and we all loved it. He said his friends will make fun of him when he tells them they have to see it.

A movie that appeals to both men and women. It is light-hearted and wonderful Meryl Streep is brilliant as is the rest of the cast. You leave the theater feeling good.

Being a food fanatic and self-labeled gourmet cook, I found the movie to be a delight from the rip-roaring culinary successes to the meltdowns that all serious cooks have had.
I felt that Julia Child's portrayal was something of a caricature, even though Meryl Streep had the mannerisms and voice of Ms. Child nailed. There were enough serious aspects of Julia Child's life that she could easily be the subject of a "biopic" that would give a more honest and well-rounded portrayal of her.
The audience at the feature that I attended was mostly middle-aged and older. They seemed to appreciate a film that wasn't dependent on car crashes, murder and mayhem and pervasive foul language to carry a story.

Throughly enjoyed this movie, anything with Meryl Streep is always a hit with me. The chemestry between the actors was wonderful and the way they went back and forth between Julia and Julie was seemless. Go see this movie you will really enjoy it. The 2 hours go by very quickly.

WOW what a joy ? Julie & Julia was wonderful to watch. Meryl Streep was amazing and she made you fall in love with this loud, crazy character. Amy Adams was just enough - slightly neurotic, and obsessive - and we can all relate to our good intentions (New Year Resolutions !) that we never quite get around the finishing. Stanley Tucci was, of course, funny and full of character. I wonder what the Awards season will think !

The movie was wonderful and great fun. Meryl Streep was truly amazing as Julia, and Julia's story was fascinating. Julie's story was not as compelling, but Amy Adams pulled it off for the most part. This movie is well worth seeing.

Streep and Adams with Tucci and Messina provided a recipe in close to perfect entertainment, with a heart. This was a story that went beyond food and finger licking to what drove these women, moved them, led them on - to fulfillment through creation and seeing a beginning to its end. There are some that I have read that have commented: not enough conflict, insufficient contributions from the men, and all the passion seems to be drained into the food. Too bad. It seems they may have looked, but didn’t get a taste.

As always, Meryl Street absolutely inhabits her characters. There were times that I had to remind myself that I wasn't really watching Julia Child. Interesting to see the development of the Julia I got to know on public tv and gain insight into her personal life and unflagging optimism that used to radiate from the screen.
Never heard of Julie's blog, but she came across as a delightful character; Amy Adams was excellent in a role that required a whole range of emotions.
Delightful, laugh out loud funny, gorgeous to look at. The recreation of Parisian culture in the post war era was fascinating and engaging.

This movie is so perfect, I loved it, my husband loved it and my 14 year old son (who was prepared to dislike it) loved it. We came home and cooked immediately, including my son who all of a sudden wanted to learn how to chop an onion. Then I started rereading my Julia Child cookbooks. Meryl Steep is amazing, hilarious, wonderful, and so is Amy Adams. And Stanley Tucci is wonderful.The whole movie is just a delight.

I saw the movie with my daughter and we loved it! Meryl Streep is amazing as Julia Child and Amy Adams does a great job playing a woman who finds comfort and joy in cooking food. Though the movie is over 2 hours, it never drags or feels too long. The male actors are also terrific in their roles as loving, adoring husbands. How nice to see positive marriages in a movie!
A definite must see.

This movie is a funny, feel good treat that everyone who has always wondered what to do with their life should see. Streep deserves an Academy Award nod for her warm and absolutely hilarious portrait of Julia Child and Amy Adams probably deserves one even more for her portrait of an everyday modern working women who feels inadequate in the eyes of her friends, mother and professional life. This movie is a MUST see. My only disappointment is a surprise near the end of the movie that I won't give away but you know life isn't perfect and like Julia always said...:no apologies and no excuses". Bon Appetite!

This movie was fun. I left wanting to make boeuf bourguignon as soon as I got home. Meryl Streep WAS Julia, and Amy was an excellent newcomer, very believable and real. Tucci and Messina were also real people and added much to the depth of the movie. I have to buy more cookbooks now, specifically Child's and Powell's! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

If you like cooking or watched Julia Child cooking shows you will absolutely love this movie. Meryl Streep nails the part and persona of Julia Child. I laughed and loved the relationships of the characters. A moving that will be a classic to watch time and time again.

This movie is rather like a recipe these two women would create. It has two main ingredients (Julie&Julia) with lots of foie gras and seasoning to go around in the way of husbands, friends, disappointment, enduring under stress, deadlines, etc. That is life - like a recipe - and Julie saw how Julia made her life, er, recipes of life much better than they might have been had she not tried so hard to get them right, and to do it, after all, for the one she loved.

I've been anticipating the arrival of this movie since the previews months ago and I'm happy to say I was not disappointed. The story, actors and concept of the two stories is fantastic. Streep and Adams are perfect. I loved this movie and would recommend it highly. It made me want to go home and start cooking!

I have read the book My Life in France by Julia Child have started reading Julie & Julia by Julie Powell. This movie is funny, charming and witty. Meryl Streep is a very convincing Julia Child and Stanley Tucci is a wonderful Paul Child. Amy Adams was wonderful and cute. I have and will continue reccommending it to my friends and family. I would like to see a movie completely on "My Life in France" by Julia Child and Alex Prud'homme.

If you have any affection for Julia Child you must see this film. The Julia sections are brilliant period pieces, loving portrayals of a beloved larger-than-life character. The Julie sections show a character that has been a bit Ephron-ized from the one we see in Julie's book, one who is a worthy spiritual partner for Julia. Two great husbands in this film too. Lucky ladies.
