Beautifully done by Nora Ephron. Expertly edited by Richard Marks. Great performances by both Meryl Streep and Amy Ryan. Stanley Tucci was solid and smooth. And the food looked fantastic. Yum.
A shamelessly calculated, over-directed, underwritten, one-dimensional, claustrophobic waste of time. Leaving the theater, I felt abused. Is this really what Hollywood has to offer for a mainstream summer release? It would seem that their point of view is, if the public is standing blindly with mouths open, just squeeze anything onto the shovel, and jam it in without conscience.
Flat. Referenced much better films, specifically Wonder Boys. In fact, the house in the two films seemed identical. Thomas Haden Church and Ellen Page played thinner versions of their respective characters in Sideways and Juno. Quaid's perfromance was inconsistent and self-conscious, Sarah Jessica Parker was barely there. Not a smart movie.
