I fondly remember watching Dark Shadows every afternoon after school. There isn't a thing that evokes fond feelings in this movie. The beginning had a glimpse or two of 'camp' but then the movie began to take itself too seriously and lost its appeal.
I do not have a Facebook account nor do I ever intend to have one but I found the movie fascinating as it showed the how and why of Facebook's creation, which has, no doubt, changed the digital world. The writing and acting were excellent though I understand Zuckerberg is not as nerdy as portrayed.
I thought the movie was beautifully acted and found it moving, though not surprising. For Eastwood it was certainly a departure from his 'dark' side. I think it is noteworthy as to the timing of this release, as the USA welcomes it's first black President to office - perhaps he can 'heal' our country as Mandala did S Africa
I saw the movie with my daughter and we loved it! Meryl Streep is amazing as Julia Child and Amy Adams does a great job playing a woman who finds comfort and joy in cooking food. Though the movie is over 2 hours, it never drags or feels too long. The male actors are also terrific in their roles as loving, adoring husbands. How nice to see positive marriages in a movie!
This movie was great. You forget you are watching Frank Langella and actually think you are watching Richard Nixon. Michael Sheen does an admirable turn as Frost and kudos to supporting cast as well. But the movie is really Langella's and history's.
I was psyched to see this movie from reviews from friends and all the positive press. I found it sappy. Too long and too overly sentimental. Blanchett as the old woman was difficult to understand, Julia Ormond is gorgeous but totally wasted in this role and for me the best part of the movie was watching Pitt become younger and more good looking. My husband and daughter loved it though so I'm in the minority.
I wanted to like this movie but I found it much too long and all too dark. Maggie Gyllendal is so stiff she's like a corpse. There is no chemistry between her and either of her male co-stars. This lackluster love interest is the perfect example of how much this movie lacks passion.
I expected Get Smart to be stupid and a bad imitation of the much loved TV show but I was pleasantly surprised and entertained by the movie which was well cast and well paced. It was fun to watch.
For well over 100 minutes, this movie was as good as the ones before it, but the last 20 minutes just blew it. All I can say about the ending is stupid, stupid, stupid.
