Having studied martial arts as well as the history of ninjustu, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed with this movie. Hollywood seems to think they have to be as extreme and shocking as possible to keep people's attention these days. This is not true. We don't need limbs flying and bodies cut in half and gallons of blood to be entertained. What happened to the days of movies telling a story and letting that captivate an audience? The movie was still enjoyable as a whole, but I felt the unrealistic weaponry and excess blood and gore definitely detracted from the movie. Next time let the story and the actors be the spotlight!

Overall the martial arts action was fantastic. However I personally think that there was too much gore and this is coming from a person that loves a good gory movie.
For some unknown reason the director or whoever felt that blood or body parts needed to be flying all over the place every minute or so. This was very detracting from the overall movie itself.
I also feel that the ending was rushed. I dont mean with the cavalry coming to the rescue I think that was an excellent touch. I mean where the master was kicking the s**t out of his pupil and all of a sudden the student was better than the master?

Only one thing kept 'Ninja Assassin' from being an exceptional movie. Everything else was awesome - story, acting, filming, settings, special effects, fight choreography - you name it, it was great. Unfortunately it was turned from what could have been a classy martial arts film into a cheap slasher film. Cutting bodies in half with one swipe of a knife or sword, and gallons of blood spurting from every cut took away from the great example of courage and endurance this film presented. Even so, it's a memorable film, well worth seeing.

If you're used to the traditional martial arts movie this wasn't it. The genre was blended with the horror genre and had graphical disections of heads, torsos and, lots of blood splatters, pretty disgusting really. I stuck with it, but if I was an investor would have removed the several of the horrific graphics to make the movie have a wider appeal. It could have been a better movie, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Lots of fun watching this movie. The acting was done well enough: the Korean pop star was convincing to me as a serious, but repentant killer; the ladies of the movie were smart and beautiful; and the story was just enough to support the slaughter without getting in the way of it. No oscar here, but seriously, if you like movies like this, do you want it--being emotionally involved to such gore won't make this enjoyable. And it was!!!

I thought the movie was good with a minor exception that thier could have had a bit more substance to the movies plot/story line. The blood and gore was done well and the fact the "Ninja" stealthness was portraied as what I imagined was fantastic! Hopefully if they make another movie/sequel it will be a bit longer than this one. One hour and thirty-nine minutes is awfully short for a movie of this magnitude! It should have been at the least two hours and fifteen minutes long.

After living through the 1980s, with some of the most terrible ninja movies ever made, I was absolutely delighted by this entry into the genre. Ninja Assassin slices it's way to the top of the Ninja movie genre, and raises the bar for others to follow. Excellent fight sequences coupled with a good, solid story, and topped off with a return appearance of Ninja Master Sho Kosugi ( I realize he isn't actually a Ninja, but as I said, I lived through the '80s). This is why I go to movies.

There are movies which are classics that will transcend the years and be remembered as masterpieces of cinematic achievement. This is not one. This movie was, however, *exactly* what I wanted from a movie titled "Ninja Assassin" and put together by the Wachowski brothers (of "Matrix" fame).
There were not a lot of slow, meaningful interludes with heartfelt dialog. Yes, there was a bit of a story, and not that bad of one for a ninja movie I suppose. The movie spent its time however with throwing stars, swords, and kusarigama. The fight scenes were absolutely amazing. At one point I found myself aware that I was waiting for an extended fight to finish so that I could breathe normally again.
I would definitely recommend it to genre fans.

if you loved the old 80's sho kosugi ninja films you will love this. special effects are off the chain! Not a childrens movie, but a real MANS movie
