the movie had potential but it was often redundant and, as a result, rather lifeless. Common themes, mimicible characters, permeating aphorisms; all of these qualities were enacted to synergistically dull the overall 'will to power' of the film. What was truly rewarding; were those moments of antipodism: when two convictions were juxtaposed in a format that was foreign but provocative. I do not consider myself intelligent; nor do i consider my opinions truthworthy. I am not trying to be a philosper, a mixer of words, or a rhetorician. I am a man, just like you; no more, no less.

A very solid movie. Not a perfect movie, like City of God or City of Men, but very solid.
A little corny at times, some moments may not be the most plausible, and afterwards I wonder if using made-up questions from "who wants to be a millionaire India edition" might be too easy, too convenient a unifying device for a film.
Also, the protagonists went through extremely traumatic childhoods and I'm not sure I see a realistic depiction of the damage that does here, especially in the hero of the film who unexplainably is one of the most well-adjusted figures ever on a movie screen

This is a film that is among the very best I have ever seen. Seeing "Benjamin Button" the previous night and then this film has really changed my general disappointment with the whole movie-going thing in recent years. If this is a sampling of what will be coming, I am a reborn fan. If you have read Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns, this film does what the books do (and the film, Kite Runner, struggled with) - capturing a foreign world and what children may be facing when confronting the worst of it all. Great acting, great cinemotography, well written and directed. Just remarkable!

It was brilliant. That's all there is to it. I think that the rest of the world needed to see how people live in places like Mumbai. I felt that up to this point it was largely unknown. As an Indian, I have family there, my parents went to college there, and I've been there many times, so none of this was a surprise to me. But it was a really good feeling knowing that now the rest of the world knows how these people live and the kinds of things that go on. If you have not seen this movie, then you are missing out.

This movie was very good. For a movie about kids it was surprisingly intense. The scenes of India's slums were horrible and yet beautiful because of all of the colors (like when they are washing their clothes in the river). The people are beautiful to watch and their stories seem so real. As this epic movie moves from childhood into adolescence and then into adulthood, it never loses its hold on you. I'm amazed at how well the makers of this film pulled this off (I know the trick they used and it is brilliant). The movie was sold out, and nobody said a word during the entire time and no cell phones rang and when it was over we were all still there. Definitely a great movie.

SDM is an amazing movie. It's not your normal boy-meets-girl-they separate-get-back-together kind of a love story. It is wrapped in poverty, filth, despair, and hope. You must go see it. It'll make you appreciate whatever life you are living. You'll hide behind your hands, laugh out loud, groan, cry, gag a little, and totally love every minute. My only complaint happens during the credits, but I won't spoil it for you.

We went to see this movie not sure what to expect and LOVED it! It provides insight to the culture of Mumbai (at least a portion of it), has moments of humor, is a great romance story, and is generally just very entertaining! We thought the casting of the characters was also very good -- each person fit their role perfectly. Finally, the way the film was produced and the story line organized was creative and different. Overall, a brilliant film and a great surprise!!!!

This is a great film. A great film is dependent on a number of things. The most important being a good story. This is a GREAT story. It follows the lives and troubles of a group of "slumdog" kids from the poorest parts of India. It was beautifully directed by Danny Boyle who never disappoints. By the end you feel very attached to the characters, and you want them to succeed. But will they??? You'll have to watch to find out.

This is one of just a few movies we've seen where the audience applauded at the conclusion, ourselves included.
This story centers on the life of two kids and their growing up into their late teens. One of the kids ends up on India's version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire" while the other .... oh, just go to see the movie.
The plot is excellent; cast a perfect match; cinematography super; music great; editing could have been better. You absolutely HAVE to stay seated and enjoy the credits. If you leave while the credits roll, you're missing some great stuff!
The 'R' rating is fair; PG13 would be inadequate. This is NOT a movie for younger kids.

Who are these people who have positively reviewed this dog? This is a BallyWood "B" movie at best. It's dirty, ugly, depressing and a snoozer at that. My wife is a family physician. She's seen a lot. But even she was grossed out by the part about ripping a 6-year-old's eyes out with a spoon so they could sell them. Unbelievable!!! And on top of that, somehow this movie is rated a comedy???? There isn't a single laugh in this thing. Here's my Bill rating -- a 7.5. That means there were 7.5 minutes where I had to avert my eyes from the screen. This was not a movie I wanted to pay for on any day, much less on my Christmas/New Years vacation. The love part at the end is so predictable and contrived. It in no way saves this.

Engrossing movie. Immediately moves one past the media image of "Tom Cruise" and into a suspenseful, masterfully produced and directed movie experience. I didn't see the "guy on Oprah's couch"-- I saw a serious actor totally inhabiting his character, the war hero von Stauffenberg who has decided to try to kill Hitler. Kenneth Branagh (of Henry V fame) does not disappoint, & I didn't recognize Eddie Izzard; in fact I pretty much forgot I was watching actors and gave myself over to the story. The production values are glorious, from the editing to the cinematography to the music to the costumes. My recommendation: see it!

this movie was fantastic, i loved every minute of it. Danny Boyle is such a talented director and with this he succeeded at yet another genre. The film is very painful to watch, in that it portrays the psychological and physical torment some young indian children actually go through. But the filmmaking is top notch and the story is very engaging. Overall, a very beautiful movie that I'd recommend to anyone.

Don't miss it, its one in a thousand, the music is simply terrific. The story line is like a fantasy movie. Well written, well scored and well executed.

A kind of drab movie about the survival of love through childhood and adolescence and the fairytale of winning BIG on a gameshow. Probably an accurate depiction of poverty in India. There are a lot better movies playing that you can go see. Save your money on this one.
