I'm a GB fan. I think he's doing groundbreaking work that will create a sustainable legacy -- if he gets off the self-agrandizing kick. Last night's performance was boring. Anyone who has watched his TV show knows all this stuff. The number of facts per minute in this show was less than one -- boring! We've all seen you cry, Glenn. Whatever your problem was, get some therapy and get over it. You have a huge responsibility here. Because of your right-mindedness and creativity and every-man persona, you have been granted the ear of 30 million Americans. Lose all this ego stuff -- the endless photo shoots -- PLEASE -- and get serious. This was a TOTAL waste of my time and I want my $40 back.
On the downside, I found myself easily able to walk out to get more popcorn with only 15 mins left. That saddened me. We expect something new from Roddenberry. Plot wise, this was not it. Good things: seeing Leonard Nimoy's role is significant and excellent. I hope we see him for many years to come. To my amazement, all the new versions of the original crew are roles well played and interesting. The way the new guys were introduced one-by-one into the script was PERFECTLY done and completely respectful to the original TV show. I was shocked to find myself starting to think the unthinkable -- I might like these folk better than the originals someday. They are that good.
Who are these people who have positively reviewed this dog? This is a BallyWood "B" movie at best. It's dirty, ugly, depressing and a snoozer at that. My wife is a family physician. She's seen a lot. But even she was grossed out by the part about ripping a 6-year-old's eyes out with a spoon so they could sell them. Unbelievable!!! And on top of that, somehow this movie is rated a comedy???? There isn't a single laugh in this thing. Here's my Bill rating -- a 7.5. That means there were 7.5 minutes where I had to avert my eyes from the screen. This was not a movie I wanted to pay for on any day, much less on my Christmas/New Years vacation. The love part at the end is so predictable and contrived. It in no way saves this.
I went to enjoy the latest Oliver Stone docudrama and got a cheap slash and burn of the Bush administration and Christianity in general. The interplay between Bush 1 and 2 is interesting, but even Laura Bush is portrayed in the most ungenerous matter. This is a couple orders of magnitude beneath Stone's previous work. I went to see this because I heard someone on Fox interview Stone and say that they thought the portrayal of W was sympathetic! What planet were they living on? Stone isn't putting much effort into his work these days. Whatever he thinks will be popular and make him a buck. Sad. He could've done so much with this.
With great anticipation did I shell out $18 in hopes that someone had finally put the answer up on the silver screen -- but nooooo. Technically, it was very poorly executed. But that's just the beginning of the problems. The movie shows lots of good stuff about the deficit and the oncoming Social Security burden, etc., but never puts it together to provide a cohesive solution. The solutions offered are: 1. Americans need to increase savings; 2. Congress needs to spend less; 3. partisan politics is ruining Congress’ ability to fix this; 4. Americans need to correct the trade imbalance (somehow). What a pathetic swipe at a solution!!! Do a search for the cult film "The MoneyMasters" for better solutions.
