My wife chose this movie and i went with her with no great expectations. The movie has a well crafted plot and is esentially a tale of how the events of his life enabled someone to answer all the questions on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire in India. It is funny, serious and tragic all at once and held my attention for the full length of the movie. One of those films that you come out of smiling and saying what a good watch it was.

My husband and I went to see this on the advice of a friend and had bought tix before the Oscar nominations. It was fantastic!! Some scenes are disturbing and hard to watch but they have a profound purpose in the storyline and are not just gratuitous violence. The 2 hours flew by and you are on the edge of your seat by the end. Everyone was leaving the theatre with a smile on their face. We highly recommend this film as it's one of the best we've ever seen...

It is hard to meld together a serious movie about life of the untouchables in India with a feel good Bollywood movie. I liked it because I think we all want some escape right now. But as an actual movie device, using Who Wants to be a Millionaire as the formula for examining the underclasses doesn't really work. It is contrived.
BUT....who doesn't want to leave a movie happy? So yes, I would recommend it but I wouldn't be garnering it with Academy Award nominations.

You have to be careful these days about the movies you go to, especially since they cost about $12 now. In contrast to the adrenaline-rush nonsense that is out there, this is rich in meaning and humanity, something lacking in cinema today. What a delightful surprise! Such a great change from the usual predictable plot/theme/dialog of Hollywood's ubiquitous pap. The protagonist overcomes all odds and we get a happy ending. Not new and uniqe, but very well done. For once in a contemporary movie, the black man is not the victim of a mean spirited white man. Instead, we see Hindus committing horrors and atrocitiesupon Muslims. How refreshing to be presented with the fact that man's inhumanity to man is not limited to those of European descent. You know the story. The guy is on India's version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire", and all the questions have to do with earlier events in his life. Great acting, and a great story. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like this!

I loved how the story was told in his recollection of the past and how he knew the answers to each question based on life experiences. Experience really is the best teacher.
