My husband is from Mumbai and we go there to visit every 2 years so many of the scenes were familiar with some parts still shocking but it was realistic. It was a great story and we loved the way it was told through the flashbacks which also helped explain how he knew the answers on the show. Great directing, great acting and an overall great story with a happy ending for the most part. I would see again and definitely recommend. It deserves many awards.

An entertaining movie. The strongest actors were the cop and the game show host. How this won over Benjamin Buttons at the Golden Globes is beyond me. Perhaps the story line, which was good, no doubt, did the trick but certainly no comparison in terms of acting. The Bahliwood dancing at the end was amusing.

I had doubts about watching the film until it was up for Oscar nominations. I had to watch Slumdog Millionaire to see why the film was getting so much buzz. I was truly convinced. This is a great film with a happy ending. It deserves to win it all. There is no other film that will ever match with this one.

This was one of the best movies we've seen in quite a while. This was ten times better (and an hour shorter) than The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Good story, and fantastic, interesting characters.

Because of its numerous Oscar nominations, I really wanted to see this movie. From its synopsis, I assumed that it would just be just another hobo to riches story mixed with love. It was a great surprise that it was so much more than that. Humor is mixed into the beginning with tragedy, and it pans out to be a great love story involving survival in the slums of Mumbai and showing that Jamal (Patel) rightfully deserves his winnings.

If you only see one movie this year, Slumdog should be the movie. It was a wonderfully written, disturbing movie that kept this viewer so engrossed in the plot that when the lights came on two hours later, it seemed like only minutes had passed. Be warned that it does deserve its R rating, not for language but for the inhumane attacks against the children. It is a movie you can't afford to miss.

I've walked out of only two movies --this and Strawdogs. I know this is a much superior movie --in terms of its story and the fact that its characters are beyond the usual waspy-Hollywood types. It may even convey a truth about a harsh reality in countries where poverty is common and painfully despairing. But this was much more violence than I could stomach and it was certainly more than a "R" rating. It should have been rated NC-17 --or maybe been given a new rating of its own, one that truly alerts viewers to the unceasing and repelling level of violence. How about a "VX" ?

Technically, I rate this movie five stars- acting, direction, editing, etc. Keep reminding yourself this is special effects as some of the graphic, gross scenes unfold. Not a comedy, not a feel good movie even with the uplifting ending. It evokes many emotions while imparting a disturbing image of India. Interestingly enough, the reviews are stacked with five stars and it is indeed a riveting film, albeit not one I would wish to see again.

This was one of the all time best movies I have seen. The storyline, the acting, the music, the visuals. I think I would recommend it to teens, as well as adults.The wonderful performance at the end of the movie was an example of the energy and excitement that the movie portrayed.

Good depiction of Mumbai. Love, struggle, bad guys, kindness, crowds, good cops, nasty methods, gangsters, orphan kids succeeding against all odds, urban development, all resolved in the end as the hero gets his lady. The closing dance scene was outstanding, just like an Indian cinema flick . Slumdog likely to get Best Picture at the Oscars.

The film is a fairy tale but has a stark unbearable view of slum life. The epic poetic vision created by the film demonstrates how such poetic visions make life livable in such an unlivable world. This is a beautiful movie and involves such amazing filming without ever calling attention to its many technical acrobatics.

This is a movie that came at the right time. We need to feel good about being human, going through loss after loss, and somehow going on. Slumdog is obviously from a novel as the way the story weaves in and out the hero's appearance on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" (Mumbai version) is wonderful storytelling. The performances are sincere and ring true to the culture and the characters.
I had a friend once tell me that if I ever did visit India, I would come back and kiss USA soil. There are some hard scenes to watch about life there, about children and their treatment. But the end is redeeming.
My 16-year-old just polled her high school for the favorite movie of the year. Slumdog Millionarie won in a landslide.

Fantastic film. However at times funny, would not classify this movie as a comedy. Multi-faceted story-action, romance, comedy, and culture.
