Randall Wallace - outstanding director. Diane Lane, an incredible actress, loved her Oscar worthy performance. John Malkovich, character perfection, lovable and funny, and I don't know the horse's name but he was wonderful! So was Margo Martindale who played Miss Ham. In fact everyone was great! This is an absolutely must see at the theater. A definite addition to my dvd collection when it comes out. One you will want to see more than twice.
Two stars just because of Clooney. Being a huge Clooney fan, I was excited about seeing his latest. Never have I been so let down. Yes, his acting was superb....but it usually is. His girlfriend Clara was stunning. The cinematography was beautifully done and the actors all did a fine job. The directing sucked. Way too drawn out and I kept waiting for something to happen that didn't. Kinda like driving behind a person with their blinker on who never turns. I won't watch it again on dvd and will not recommend to anyone. Should have gone to see Leonardo.
Three years ago, I read the book. It was intriguing and inspiring. When the movie was announced, I couldn't wait to see it. A girl friend went along and had not read the book. We both enjoyed it immensely. I remembered descriptions in the book which were left out of the movie, those describing the enlightening break through in meditation, and those spicy details of the first love making. If one has not read the book, you don't know these things but I suppose the director didn't feel they were significant - I did. Over all, I thought the movie was beautiful, the acting was superb and the scenery was incredible. A mature woman who has experienced life, I could definitely relate to Gilbert's experiences and would highly recommend this movie as well as the book to all women who are looking for an authentically fulfilling life. It is inspiring.
Well written, funny intelligent and unique. I loved it and and will buy it to keep. It was refreshing, outrageous, quirky, nutty, clever, and totally entertaining. Acting was superb. So happy to see something that's different and puts one in a good mood.
Special effects were great - awesome. Cage did good job as usual. And yes, it kept me on the edge of my seat for a while. But honestly, it was yet another version of how the world will end. With a different twist. The ending was wee bit hokie in my opinion. Not a movie I would see again or buy.
Technically, I rate this movie five stars- acting, direction, editing, etc. Keep reminding yourself this is special effects as some of the graphic, gross scenes unfold. Not a comedy, not a feel good movie even with the uplifting ending. It evokes many emotions while imparting a disturbing image of India. Interestingly enough, the reviews are stacked with five stars and it is indeed a riveting film, albeit not one I would wish to see again.
I kept wanting something to happen more quickly than it did. A lot of time was devoted to developing the characters and it was a bit slow in the beginning Both Hoffman and Thompson were great. It just didn't grab me albeit there were some very touching moments. And I suppose I expected more than it delivered. It will appeal to some but not everyone....especially guys. It isn't a movie that I will purchase when it comes out on DVD. But hey, that's just my opinion.
What it would be like to live life "backwards." It's just a thought that has briefly run through my mind. 'When I heard about this movie, I HAD to see it. Am I glad I did! A powerful story and movie - expertly directed. Notwithstanding the fact that two of Hollywood's most brilliant stars captured my heart as usual, the truth is I could not even leave to go to the restroom. I was in pain before it was over but absolutely could not tear myself from it for even a minute. It played reruns in my mind for several days. The brilliant dashes of humor just throw an audience into laughter at the most unexpected moments. Love, passion, tenderness, humor, drama - it has everything. One for the men as well as the women. I highly recommend it.
