I went to see "Defiance" with 4 friends on opening night, and all 5 of us loved it. Most of the 5 of us are fairly knowledgeable about WW2 and the Holocaust, and there was nothing in the movie that "didn't fit". Daniel Craig's acting ability shines forth in "Tuvia", a man who sometimes had to do things he didn't want to do, because it was for the good of the group and he had so many people depending on him. I would watch this movie again & again.

Superior film which I will watch again and again. I went with high expectations based on the talent of the cast, production staff and subject matter; I wasn’t disappointed. A heart-breaking true (not based on true, but actual true) story about these Jews was a gripping yet beautiful movie. I cried throughout the film for various reasons, but enjoyed the movie more because of the pain. Moving and passionate, I believe I enjoyed the challenge this "community" faced as they sacrificed all of their previous pleasures in an otherwise peaceful live without sacrificing their faith. I've always enjoyed Daniel Craig and have adored Jamie Bell since his balletic brilliance in "Billy Elliot" years ago. A must see for all, not just history majors.

I found this movie to be powerful and moving. It depicts the incredible journey of these four brothers and all they do to aide those in need. I think this is truly one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is a shame that this true story has not been shared in books or by other venues before now!

Daniel craig demonstrated acting skills not called upon in The Bond movies and he shone. Liev Schreiber gave a strong and powerful performance. The story itself is incredible and I am horrified that those poor people had to live in such terrible conditions. The story is really intriguing. An unusual plot, written really well so it is exciting to watch. The acting is fantastic! Daniel Craig has elevated himself to star status in this flick. Liev Schreiber was terrific. But the best was the direction! Ed Zwick directed a masterpiece that kept me on the edge of my seat for over 2 hours. Unlike Benjamin Button, which dragged for that long.

Ed Zwick must be congratulated for relaying this most historic and important story of survival and courage. Personally, it put visuals to the stories I have head my whole life as my father was one of the youngest members of the Bielski Brigade. Daniel Craig and Liev Shrieber are fantastic in this drama! It's an absolutely wonderful story of survival, family fortitude and strength on all the characters behalves. I thought the movie was incredible. From the opening scene I was on the edge of my seat and when the movie ended it made me want to see more. Its hard to imagine that this was based on a true story. I loved this movie. I was unfamiliar with this story and the fact that it's true just adds to it. Daniel Craig is tremendous and Liev Schreiber is great. It is a realistic look at a group of jews who chose not to be murdered and instead stood and fought. While many die, the fact that they took a stand made a difference. Well worth seeing. I took my grandson who is 14 and 3 of his friends. Their reviews were mixed, but my grandson and I agreed it was a very interesting story, well told. We thought all the actors did a great job, but found Liev Schreiber who played Zus Bielski to be exceptional. Highly recommend this movie as a starting point to talk to high schoolers, who are woefully ignorant, about WW2.

I liked seeing the other side of WWII. I liked watching a story about survival instead of winning. It shows the low level soldiers who hunt Jews because if they don't, they will be killed. This movie is a perfect example of humanity and courage. I wish they could have made it a special on the History channel instead of a movie.

I have to agree with the reviewers on this one. Pretty horrible movie. The acting was over done, the script was melodramatic, the characters were stereotypical. (The communist student, the rabbi etc.) The women, after living out in the woods for years,looked like they just came out of a health Spa.

Director Zwick throws one long and Craig catches it perfectly for the touchdown. Schrieber does a good job of blocking and all of the players do a nice job of filling in the holes and weakspots. Enough already with the football metaphors. Just know that this is an excellent movie that will keep you riveted. In the end you will have one more puzzle piece found regarding your understanding of the depravity and heroism that germinated from WWII. Craig really expands his acting chops here (no "Bond-iness). All of the actors were "submerged" in their characters and were organic and believable. Beautiful cinematography! Another of many recent great WWII flicks - See it!

After visiting the Holocaust Museum in DC during the holidays, this movie was great to see as another exhibition of what the Jews had to endure. It's just so hard to believe, but at the same time you know they did whatever they had to in order to survive. Great acting by all.

-One of the most powerful WWII films I have seen in a long time. All performances were top notch and the story was very well written & beautifully brought to life. The ending was truly moving - the theater was packed during my viewing and not a single person spoke or stood to leave as the credits started. It was as though the emotion hung in the air and no one wished to disturb it. Not once have I seen an audience so wholly humbled.
While "Defiance" is a great movie, I feel obliged to warn anyone who might consider taking a child or younger teen. It is a war/holocaust film and some of the more violent content may be too much for younger audiences. As such I'd recommend watching the movie yourself before taking any child 15 or younger.

I loved this movie. I loved how family, honor, and love were portrayed. DEFIANCE will not be for everyone, but for it's audience I think people will be glad they went. I am always amazed at the strength and strong faith of people under such hard, hard circumstances.

I think the fact that this is a true story lends so much more credibility to it. It's too bad that Hollywood doesn't bring more of these stories to theaters it would make a trip to the movie theater a much better option than waiting for the dvd.
