The story was great, the landscapes were wonderful, the depictions of buildings and equipment of the time period were marvelous, and most of the acting was tremendous. The one thing that kept ‘Australia’ from being a truly great movie for me was that Nicole Kidman didn’t seem up to the task for the most part. She appears to be more of a celebrity than a true actress. Perhaps it’s just that I have been spoiled by the talent of those of the past, so don’t let it stop you from seeing this film. I can’t help but wonder however, what ‘Australia’ could have been with someone like a young Katherine Hepburn playing the part!

This movie was awe-inspiring and visually stunning. Nicole Kidman & Hugh Jackman worked their magic in an intricately masterful love story with the huge Australian sky and marvelous scenery filling up the entire screen. The only thing that would have made this a more enjoyable experience would have been filming this natural splendor in IMAX! Definitely worth seeing for a memorable Christmas season love story.

I loved this movie, but I'm a bit bias because I'm an Aussie living in the USA. I have to say I was a bit disappointed that it seemed to be a bit slow to take off in the first 30-40 minutes, but it picks up full speed after that. I was with my NY husband and he loved it too. The discussions after the movie were great "there are a lot of Americans that didn't realize the Japanese attacked Australia/Darwin after they hit Pearl Harbor". I enjoyed the way the Aussie outback was shown. Just an all-round great movie (even if I am a little bias).

All actors can be commended on the diversity of their roles. Nicole was funny, beatiful, real... and Hugh earned 'Sexiest Man Alive' in some awesome scenes. Allah, the young boy making his screen debut captures your heart from the first moment you see him. The movie takes you back to the ways movies were made... epic and glorious. I think this movie will go down in history like some of the classic such as Out of Africa and Gone With the Wind. etc. . A MUST SEE! .

Starts out a little campy but piques interest from the very beginning. Kidman keeps us intimately involved. She is wonderful in this film and will win an Oscar for it. Jackman is great too and really hot. Little Nullah steals the show and should win an Oscar for best supporting. Length of movie was not a problem...we hardly noticed the time. Loved it.

I have seen this movie twice on two different screen types. The cinematography is excellent in that it captures the dusty ground level, isolated water and high level mountain views of the country. Nicole Kidman portrays a surprisingly diverse role of a "proper, English Woman" who melds properly into a male-dominated cattle raising role. Coupled with a few romantic interludes, contemporary Aborigine supporting characters and the youths of the lost generations, this film will surely garner its share of Academy Award Nominations.

A very creative story with an interesting plot set against an historically fascinating backdrop. And the performance of the child character was very memorable and Oscar-worthy. As for the adult characters - they suffered from the overall direction and the intent to be an ultra-visual, over-the-top homage to the western adventure motif. The movie was too long by about 40 minutes. Had it been a bit more understated and gritty it could have been a classic.

This is a real old fashioned love story that leaves you feeling good after a movie for a change. The acting, except for the child, is not great, but the story is captivating and well done. Has a "Gone With the Wind" feel (although, obviously, not of the same caliber). The 40's treatment to the whole thing is a nice twist. Derfinitely worth seeing. I've seen both Kidman and Jackman promote the film several times, and never once did either of them mention the story line. They should have.

I loved this movie! The storyline takes you through all aspects of emotion. It holds your attention throughout the entire movie. If you liked "Pearl Harbor"...you'll love this movie. Otherwise, you may thing it is the worst, most derivative, absurd film ever, and deeply regret having lost 3 hours of your precious life to watching it. There were some enjoyable moments when I laughed out loud with incredulousnous at the predictablitity of scene after scene, copied from everything from Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time in The West to Gone With The Wind and Titanic. I loved Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge, and I love a good romantic epic, but unfortunately, this is not one of them. Save yourself!

Being a fan of Baz Luhrmann, Hugh Jackman, and Nicole Kidman, I was anxious to see this movie. It did not disappoint. It is a bit long, but you don't really notice it that much, since there is always something interesting going on. There is plenty of romance, true, but there is a lot more to this movie than that: it is an epic tale of love, greed, prejudice and revenge, all set along the amazing backdrop of Australia. Very well done. Hugh Jackman is more than just sexy as the Drover, and David Wenham is chilling. It was great to see Bryan Brown and other Aussie actors we don't often get to see, like Jack Thompson. This is one I may want to see again, and I rarely do that these days.

Too long by at least a third (my mind kept wandering), this movie definitely is not Luhrmann's best effort. Though Jackman is as good as I've ever seen him, Kidman comes across like the uncertain newbie who made the outrageously offensive Dead Calm.
One interesting, though not positive, note: there really are two movies here. One ends about an hour into it; then the second begins.

Rarely, does a movie define itself by the mulit-layered story it tells; the well defined characters whose lives we come to know; and the setting of time and place that deepens us by having visited. I LOVED this movie!! I can't remember a movie experience that has moved me as much as this movie did! It was outstanding on every level. The story had me on the edge of my seat with suspense then I was crying from heartbreak and joy at the same time. I normally do not buy DVDs but this movie will definitely be a classic and I will want to go back to this movie again and again. I used to wonder why people would watch Casablanca or An Affair to Remember over and over again and now I see why. THIS is what movie making is supposed to do for the viewer. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman were brilliant and utterly captivating.

although almost 3 hours in length the time seems to fly by as Kidman and Jackman work their magic in this historical depiction of the growth of Australia. The film depicts the assimilation of their native Aboriginal first citizens, under the rule of the British. It's a real eye-opener and well worth seeing. For those who enjoy romance, there is some great chemistry going on between Kidman and Jackman. Not a film to be overlooked this season!

Outstanding movie. This is well worth seeing on the big screen. It did not seem like it was a 3 hour movie. I can't say enough about this movie, that's how great the wife and I thought it was.

Great acting by all. The boy, Allah was awesome!!! (and what a cutie).This movie has a little of everything.............Drama, Action, War,and Love. Maybe others expected the ending but my mouth dropped, what a shock! A little long but well worth the time. I also found I needed keenex a couple of times. Don't miss it.

We watched this movie on the big screen - amazing and I highly recommend taking advantage of seeing this movie at the theater. Australia was a beautiful and exciting story. History was told - WW II and the plight of the Australian aborigine people. Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman have great chemistry. Highly recommend this movie!!
