UM, where to start.... first the good: the little boy in this is just incredible, and the story is very interesting...but please, Hugh and Nicole had NO chemistry and even worse Hugh really does have no charisma (just like a critics review that I read before going but chalked it up to jealosy because he is so hot......) I squirmed a lot in my seat and finally left 45 min early, so I don't know if it got better.

One of the better movies this year. Outstanding photography, plot was excellent if you understand something of the Australia and its aborigonies. Darwin was actually attacked in WWII several times so the facts are accurate.
The acting was outstanding by all actors.

I was skeptical, because of some critical reviews and Nicole Kidman's history of making bad movies, but went to see the movie anyway. My wife, 20-year-old son, and I all agreed that the move was very entertaining and were very pleasantly surprised. The downers were: (1) Ms. Kidman's character was like a caricature rather than a real person, and (2) the song played over the credits sounded like the theme song from the movie "Green Berets."

I really enjoyed this movie more than i thought i would. I figured since it was a really long movie, that i might get bored, but i didnt. It kept me entertained the whole time. This is something a guy or girl would enjoy, because its not just a love story. My boyfriend & i saw it together and we both enjoyed it. Me more than him, but still. I think its worth seeing in theaters, and i will probably buy it when it comes out on DVD.

What a mess! Any director knows that a movie that requires on-going narration ( by a boy you can't understand ) and sub-titles that move too fast in the beginning and drag at the end is a sure indication of too much information to captivate the audience.
Acting weak, scenery not captivating either, looks like the Grand Canyon.
Mix of genre's ( Western, Love Story, Fantasy, War) without comedy makes plot choppy but goes to the predictable but ridculous ending. Impossible that she would hear the harmonicia in the ocean amid the chaos on land.

This is the quality of a made-for-tv movie. The acting is marginal. The computer generated special effects are nice to look at. They have tried to make it look like a modern day Wizard of Oz , which is referenced in the movie, but it comes across like a cheap rip-off not good enough to spend money on. The story is classic boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl. They throw in a cute mixed race child and marginal references to aboriginal religion that makes little sense unless you have a clue about aboriginal religion and culture.

Baz Lurman got this one right. I am by no means a fan of all of his work, but this one fires on all cylinders. It is magnificent in scope in the tradition of the great westerns. The character development is well done, and aboriginal culture is treated sympathetically, with aboriginal characters playing central roles. On the scale of Dr. Zhivago or Gone with the Wind, but of course from a more contemporary perspective. Brandon Walters will be made by this film. A name to follow for years to come.

I loved this movie, the scenery was breathtaking. I cried when the Mom died because I know we will give up our life for our children. The little boy was adorable and so beautiful and his acting was incredible. I do not know much about Nicole Kidman but I thought she was very good and believable. The movie was long but well worth it.

This is a deep story of people from all walks of life crossing social and racial barriers to, against all odds, form a family. Set against the back drop of the Pacific War, injustice from the Catholic Church, and competing native, outback, and industrial worlds this movie had my attention the entire time. The reviews and ads don't do it justice. This move is much longer than what is usually shown nowdays.

My husband and I saw this movie and we both loved it! The scenery is breathtaking and the little boy is just gorgeous! It is great to see an all-around beautiful movie like this produced again!

The only good thing about this movie was looking at Hugh Jackman. The writers used every former movie subject and rolled it all into one. It was a terrible story, not even believable. I was waiting for the dinosaurs to show up. The scenery was nice. Nicole is so overrated.

This isn't an indie intellectually shot film, but it is great fun if you are in the mood for an old-Hollywood style film in line with "Hawaii". Great adventures and romance!
