This is the quality of a made-for-tv movie. The acting is marginal. The computer generated special effects are nice to look at. They have tried to make it look like a modern day Wizard of Oz , which is referenced in the movie, but it comes across like a cheap rip-off not good enough to spend money on. The story is classic boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl. They throw in a cute mixed race child and marginal references to aboriginal religion that makes little sense unless you have a clue about aboriginal religion and culture.
Could have been ok as a TV special but a dud as a big screen showcase. Wait for it on video.
I like Daniel Craig as Bond. The opening scene is typical Bond, over the top but not as silly as some in the past. What can one say? If you like Bond, you'll like this one.
Set around 1964 and the signing of the equal rights act. It shows, maybe superficially, the segregation and racisim that pervaded the time. It touches on many issues concerning loss and finding your way in the world. Not the best movie but certainly not the worst. Worth seeing if you are unfamiliar with the overt hate and racisim that was not only tolerated, but encouraged, during this horrible time in America.
