Ben Stein does an amazing job! This movie is compelling, thought provocative and very insightful. I would recommend this movie 100%. This documentary offers the opportunity to hear an alternative and intelligent argument against evolution. I am sure that this movie will bring this necessary debate to the forefront. It is a great movie for all audiences.

On the surface, I was initially hit with the bluntness of this movie. Establishing the opening premise of the blatant banishment of those questioning the evolutionary party line left no question to the direction of the movie. But then again, that was the intent of the documentary. There was no deception, no candy coating. This was going to be a movie about a serious issue that needed attention and correction. The humor that was mixed into the text ( and it was appreciated), was simply there to allow the "medicine to go down." As a person who has frequently been amazed at the lack of open dialogue left in our society, especially if you continue to hold to the foundational values, morals, and social convictions of our forefathers, this movie was a breath of fresh air, encouraging, and convicting, all at the same time. A needed pendullum swing back to sanity, honest examination, and fair and open discourse. Thanks, Ben.

I found this movie to be excellent and will recommend it to my friends. Science has become politicized and I hope that this movie will open the door to objectivity once again. It is always true that we proceed from our own understandings no matter what those might be. This is only alarming when certain questions are not allowed to be spoken aloud. We need to ask, why is this so?

We thought this was a very well balanced documentary.....Ben Stein is on point as regards "Freedom" . I concur that our leaders in Academia have to a large degree let us down by being fearful and unwilling to allow other lines of thought. When they crush people for wandering off the Darwin reservation I believe we are all hurt. Free thought is a cornerstone of our nation. The slipppery slope into "controlled" thought, that I am witnessing of late on our college campuses, is almost facist like. Students boo and jeer speakers off the stage at a university because their opinions do not happen to blend with the creedo being spewed by the faculty. It is not America and kudos to Ben for showing us that. In short this is thought provoking piece of Cinema. It was great to enjoy a good conversation about the movie over dinner & drinks after the show. Now that is entertainment.

Very thought provoking film. Stein's primary message is that academic freedom should apply uniformly to scientific inquiry. As someone trained in science, I completely agree that suppressing or ignoring ideas/evidence is a frightening abuse of scientific method and practice. I do feel that the movie was a bit heavy-handed when discussing Hitler's use of Darwinian theory to justify the horrific abuses associated with Nazism, i.e., someone's evil application of a morally neutral scientific theory does not invalidate it.

I saw this fine movie on the first weekend. I had seen and heard a bunch of advertising for it and was curious. I have long felt that people pushing Darwinism, global warming and other liberal agendas have been unable to function in the open exchange of ideas. Their preferred method is to denigrate the motivations of those questioning them. This movie by and featuring Ben Stein made it very clear that my perceptions were correct. If anything, I didn't realize just how widespread the problem is. Thank you, Mr. Stein, for exposing the agenda and the people behind it to public view. The only way they can continue is to keep what they're doing hidden from general public knowledge. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who simply wants to know the truth. I really don't care if you agree with me; I just want you to be informed. Again, thank you, Mr. Stein!

Ben Stein does a masterful job of exposing the rampant intellectual discrimination of the scientific community as a whole. He discusses the fact that there is no evidence for the formation of intelligent life (or life at all) from nothing. Using the words of the prominent Darwinists themselves, he is able to illustrate the total lack of tolerance for any theory that doesn't fit their humanist/Darwinist view of how life began. I particularly loved it when Richard Dawkins says that, based on the evidence of intelligence inherent in the biological makeup of life on earth, it's possible that an alien race of intelligent beings "seeded" earth with life, but in no way did he say it could it be attributed to a creator God. There are many assinine assumptions put forth by the Darwinist that are also laughable. Great film. I highly recommend it.

I commend Ben Stein for bringing this out in the open. Freedom of speech is at risk of being lost in America and in many ways already has been lost. Those who stand by evolution need to see this film. I hope this is the beginning of a more open discussion and a true scientific approach to the many unanswered questions left in the wake of evolutionary thought. None of us were there "In the beginning", but if science points to intelligent design, we should have the freedom to talk about it.

This was a fantastic movie, and I believe essential for every true American citizen to not only watch, but to digest and tell others about as well.
This country, the USA, is going down fast, is being totally robbed of its being and its greatness, by the very leaders who propose to keep its Constitution and cherish its values.

Not an argument about which one is correct: Darwinism or creationism. This movie is about freedom of expression, our core value in America, in jeopardy in the scientific community. Brilliant use of editing vintage black in white footage, which takes a difficult subject to digest and makes it palatable even humorous, in a tasteful, witty ,respectful way. I was able to laugh aloud despite the seriousness of the content. While the film did not propagate any one theory, it challenged the viewer to follow their thinking to the end, critically question why we believe what we believe and to take an active role to protect our freedom here in America.

There seems to be a concerted effort on the side of the evolution theory to force everyone to conform. Overall I thought Expelled was well done but it left me wanting to hear a real debate between the two sides. There was not one believable explanation given for the amount of information needed to develop a single cell organism. I felt that a little more science could have helped develop the complexity of a single cell. I am not a scientist but I would think that there is some sort of slides or something like that which shows how this single cell works. There were times I wanted more information rather then saying a UFO came and seeded the planet. I find it hard to believe that scientists can not explain in a rational manner the differences between spices and where the DNA differs. If these were the brightest scientists giving their opinion on our beginnings I would say science is in big trouble. If it is true that publicly sponsored institutions are biased to the point of foolishness then it is about time we find better scientists to head these institutions.

I dare you to see this movie. I remember sitting in fourth grade and havinge my teacher instruct me that in Communist Russia the government powers told their people what they must think and believe and anyone who questioned the information could be thrown in prison or persecuted. This movie clearly shows us that the strongest 'Atheist' is at best a doubting "Agnostic'. Yet these 'Atheists' do all they can to block and deny evidence that may suggest a higher power is/was involved with the world we see around us. The debate is clearly not settled and in this movie, Mr. Stein demonstrates that these 'scientists' have an agenda. I saw these scientists, including the great Prof. Dawkins confess thier 'faith' in evolution. They so desperately need to have the discussion, one-sided, to protect thier false religion. They are clearly not studying science for science, but for personal beliefs only. The movie will challenge you personally to see the world around you and how our education system is social programming. Please do something with the information you recieve from this movie. Mr. Stein is a modern day Bonhoffer against the Scientific elite. We have generations of people who have been duped into the Darwinian worldview, it's time we get some truth. This movie will rock your socks.

The message of this movie is absolutely crucial for all Americans to know and understand, and I deeply appreciate Ben Stein and all those who put this movie together for doing their part in helping to "tear down the wall" of intellectual repression. Ben Stein, most famous for being the high school teacher asking for "Bueller... Bueller?" is the host and narrator of a new documentary about the seeming exclusion and suppression in the academic science community of Intelligent Design and its proponents.
Interviews with several hard-luck scientists, as well as prominent professors of evolutionary biology and physics, spliced together with royalty-free stock footage clips make for an entertaining and thought-provoking salvo to start a debate.
This may be a documentary, but as we all should be well aware of now, all documentaries are propaganda in one way or another, even if it's propaganda that you agree with. There's footage of wartime America, monuments in Washington DC, even an appearance by former president Reagan at the end. All of which should please the conservatives who will undoubtedly flock to this film.
But there is also a serious tone, one that can't be dismissed so easily. Comparing the exclusion of Intelligent Design from classrooms to the separation of the Berlin Wall, Stein makes his point well, without stooping to the bombastic theatrics of Michael Moore. Sure, there's shameless goofiness and plenty of clips created to intentionally elicit an emotional response, but nothing that felt over the top or (at very least) no technique we haven't seen before from modern documentaries.
It will be incredibly easy (and is probably happening right now) for scientists to blast the film and say that it's making an equal comparison with them and N a z i s m. This would be incredibly simplistic and convenient, enough to cause a stir in a hastily written article or film review in the newspaper.
But you really have to pay attention and LISTEN to what is being said so the point can be made. Just looking bold-faced at the worldview that Darwinism suggests allows you to understand how this type of thinking can have disastrous consequences. Nowhere is it saying that Darwinists are N a z i s. It is simply suggesting that this line of thinking, if left unchecked, can portend a seriously dangerous outcome. If America is truly free and open for debate, then I would hope that a little film like this would be given time and space to breathe and exist so its subject matter can be debated publicly in a civilized manner. One can only hope.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Note: It's the utmost of irony that his site denied me use of the words N a z i s and N a z i s m in my review, calling them profanity! I was using them in an academic and historical context! I had to alter the words so they could be included. Just like this movie asks... Do you still think we have free speech in this country?

After reading newspaper reviews, I almost skipped this movie -- what a loss that would have been! What is vital not to miss is that the over-arching theme of the movie is the frightening attack on academic freedom. Regardless of your views on Intelligent Design or Darwinism, you should be concerned that professors are being pushed out of academia specifically because they are willing to discuss a certain theory. Near the end of the movie, there is a giant bell being rung. To me, it reminds us to "Ask not for whom the bell tolls, because sooner or later it tolls for all of us." In other words, don't be complacent about Intelligent Design folks being run out of academia -- tomorrow it could be people whose views ARE compatible with your own who are being targeted for ridicule and censure. Appropriate for children 12 and up with parents -- a great discussion starter for teens and adults alike.

On the opening day of Expelled the Scottsdale Tribune's description of this movie was, "... conservative Christian documentary on creation verses evolution..." Why would they say this? I don't think there's any question that people in the academic world face pressure and possible ostracism if they speak up about the inability of Darwinian theory to explain the almost unbelieveable complexities at every level in our universe. Whether it's at the intra-cellular level, with it's irreducible complexity (either it's all there at once, or it couldn't be living, and couldn't happen gradually by evolution), or at the level of simple organisms, where the production of a single, simple cell would require the simultaneous production of hundreds of proteins at the same time, fit togther in just the right way to support life, there is no possible way that the world we live in happened by chance or accident. As the movie clearly points out, people tend to believe this anyway, in the face of continually mounting evidence to the contrary. And the social consequences of de-valuing human life by denying that men and women have a Creator are dire - and we're seeing the results more and more in our society today.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I feel Ben did a great job with this film. He was respectful while standing his ground. It was surprising to me that Intellegent Design is so threatening to so many in the field of science. I hope this movie is widely watched and changes attitudes, allowing those who would choose to include ID in their research and classrooms can do so without fear of losing their careers.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Ben Stein's style is greatly suited to the content of this film. Forget about religion, forget about politics--go to this film with an open mind about the process of thought itself. The metaphysical symbolism of the Berlin wall is precise. The scene at Dachau where Ben establishes that sanity and evil can coexist in a figure like Hitler, and the nonchalance of the tour guide at the killing hospital are chilling. Fear of opposing ideas paralyzes us. As the film illustrates, the cornerstone of human identity is freedom. It is a common trait of humanity We all yearn for it, we all gravitate to it as the "normal" human state. When freedom is suppressed in ways that Mr. Stein documents in his film, we see the problem is not WHAT we think. The problem is what WE ARE AFRAID to think. I highly recommend the film as a thought-provoking, conversation-starting vehicle that transcends the central issue of Intelligent Design. It gives great insight into the process of intelligence itself.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie clearly explains the growing censorship of rational thought. It shows how the academians, the media and the courts are biased against freedom of thought and are willing to use any means of suppressing the free expression thereof. This movie is a must-see for every citizen, especially those who fully support the First Ammendment of the Constitution.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Expelled is gripping, funny, eye-opening, dramatic, effective. Do most Americans know that the Academic / Scientific elite of this country ENFORCE a totalitarian stranglehold on scientific inquiry / investigation / discussion among its fellow scientists / professors / high school science teachers who might DARE to suggest that evolution does not match up with the evidence, the facts, these scientists or researchers have discovered? The elitists do NOT want you to see it. It goes against the brainwashing that has been forced upon students of science in our public schools and universities for decades. The interviews with the victims - scientists and professors - whose livelihoods have been lost and whose reputations trashed for merely mentioning intelligent design are spellbinding....yet not morose and not whining. It is full of gripping drama, understated humor, and magnificent challenges to the scientific/academic gestapo's iron grip or wall which FORBIDS the exploration of evidence that points to DESIGN rather than CHANCE over TIME as being the causative force/power/explanation for the existance of living things and the cells that make up living things. Come on, America! See this film! Don't be intimidated by the elitists who would like to shut it down and keep the truth hidden.
Dare to see it and let the truth sink in.
That wall is coming down thanks to the courage of those who were interviewed and of Ben Stein who put this film together. Viva freedom and truth!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Misguided Intelligence is what allowed Hitler to think that what he was doing was good. Creating a superior race was grounded in the principles of evolution.
Beware of reviews from individuals who have not seen this movie. It simply suggests that there is a hidden agenda going on throughout the science community, reinforced in the media and elsewhere. It is an agenda that is just as dangerous and deadly as was Hitler's agenda -- silencing the voice of common dissent.
Watch the movie. Draw your own conclusions. Disagree with it if you will, but watch it first.
All parents of young children need to watch this to decide how comfortable they are with what it is their children are taught in schools that is done in the name of 'science'.
All college students need to see this to determine what they should expect from their education and what actions they can take to ensure a higher quality exposure to true learning and discovery.
This is an epic social film, with deep implications for us all.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
