I was expecting Fame to at least be as good, if not better, than the original. It wasn't even close! The story line was everywhere, they tried to pack in too much movie in too little time, and the performances were mostly lacking in excitement. I definitely would wait to see this movie on cable - I wouldn't even rent it on DVD.

Not as exciting as I had hoped. My 16 year old said it was OK and my 11 yr old was bored most of the way thru. Not enough dancing and performing. Most of the good parts were seen on the trailers for the movie. I would recommend renting instead of seeing at the movies. It's worth seeing, but not at theater prices.

Naturi Naughton stole the show. She is definitely an up and coming actress. About the movie as a whole, it was not simply about dancing as some might lead you to believe. It was about young people's pursuit of fame using their creative talents. The movie dealt with lessons about a lot of life issues. This movie should have been rated PG-13 at best! There was underage drinking, adult content, & bad language that were not appropriate for my 12 year old daughter and her friends. As a parent I thought I was safe bringing my daughter and her friends to a PG movie and I was very embarrassed. In addition, my daughter is a dancer and all the previews showed tons of great dancing. However, there was not that much dancing in the movie. It was a disappointment to me and to the girls!

i took my 16yr old daughter who loves to dance to see this movie on a Sunday afternoon. It was a nice movie that showed some of the realities of the business but not in too harsh a light. It was a great way to escape on a Sunday afternoon and get lost at the movies which we love to do. It also was nice to see a movie not so sappy that everyone made it to the big leagues. It showed that even though you work hard and love to dance you just don't have what it takes to make it and i liked how they put that in the movie. It wasn't nasty and was nice to sit through with a teenager who loves the art of dancing yet was entertaining as well. it also showed multiple characters which i liked.

Having seen the fantastic original, I was not sure what I would get with the PG-rated version. While the situations the students faced were predictable and sanitized, as well as mirroring some of the challenges of the original, I liked that the movie did not focus exclusively on two characters. I heard this compared to "High School Musical"; nothing could be farther from the truth. There were themes that were not appropriate for kids under eleven. Another difference between "Fame" and "HSM" is that the Disney movies were so optimistic. "Fame" showed some of the kids realizing their dream was over. Not as good as the original, but entertaining nonetheless.

The movie started the same as the first Fame and the luchroom party was great. The characters demonstrated what it's like to go through an Arts program. I wished for more dancing and the last number was great. A little more drama would have been appreciated as far as demonstrating maturity of the students as they progressed.

My husband and I looked forward to seeing this movie from the first trailer. My husband really liked it but I wanted more. I honestly can't remember the original movie, but won’t forget the TV series. When I saw Debbie Allen was in the movie (great casting here), I had hoped to hear the line about wanting fame and here is where you start working for it. Good star power; added to 'realness' of story line; but, I didn't see growth over the 4 years and was disappointed. I know it's hard to do a detailed storyline in a 2 hour movie, the way the TV series did over several seasons, so maybe my expectations were too high. We thought the singers did a good job, and were surprised they sang themselves! We'll buy the DVD to enjoy the movie again.

Looked forward to this movie for quite awhile. My sister, mom and I went and enjoyed the movie very much. I had hoped for more actual performances and danicing. It was a little lacking on the storyline and we felt the two main performer were very week singers. I kept waiting for them to improve over 4 years but they never did. They certainly could have made them grow much more in their parts. My favorite scene was in the lunch room in the beginning of the movie> Hoped to have more like that but it didn't happen. Could have been so much more than it was but I still enjoyed it.

What are the reasons to re-make a movie? 1) You want to make it better the second time 2) You want to develop a different "take" the second time .... This new version of the classic movie Fame does not succeed in either area. There are a few nice performance sequences and if you put them all together the movie is maybe 20 minutes long. The movie simply does not give us enough in originality, drama, acting, pathos, memorable music, memorable dance, etc. Fame flames out and falls flat. Cannot recommend seeing or renting this one. Disappointing! Skip it!

The student actors were average to good but two of the leads, Kay Panabaker and Asher Book, both singers were weak. Kherington Payne, Naturi Naughton and Collins Penne gave very strong, artistic performances. The old heads, Allen, Grammer, Dutton, Mullalley and Neuwirth were solid performers giving the kids plenty of room to explore their own thing. Characters were not well developed BUT the music was great, the dancing very good and some very strong dramatic portrayals. And that's why I recommend it and will probably see it again.

Nothing like the original. Lots of music but I can not remember 1 song except the original which they played during the opening intro. No real story or plot to follow. They start each student's story but they never really "tell" the story. They edited so much that I think most of the movie ended up on the cutting room floor. There are a few good scenes, however, no real flow to the scenes. They don't come together well. Very disappointing but good to see some experienced actors as well as some new talent.

I have never seen the original, but have heard some of the music. I went with my family who have all seen the original. The music was almost nothing like the original, being mosting rap and R&B. Everytime the music started, I expected some big showline performance, and was greatly disappointed. The plot line was also very choppy and kept jumping between actors. The plot is almost nonexistent as you plow between the different characters. Overall, there were a couple scenes that were good, but I was greatly disappointed.
However, my family (who have seen the original) thought it was wonderful. So I guess it's all in your opinion!

I was very disappointed with this version of Fame...I've avoided all of the High School Musical movies for a reason, and this movie kind of "suckered me in". This movie didn't have any of the grittyness that the original had. And if your only going to use one song other than Fame from the original movie , why bother? If this movie was meant to recapture the spirit of the original, it missed the mark. It's off to a solid start, capturing the struggles of talented students who have worked hard to gain entry into this tough performing arts school. That's where the threads unravel and the movie hops and skip between stories to the point you no longer care about them. Maybe it was the theatre I was in, but the sound quality was way below par which hurt my opinion of the film. Ensemble dance numbers left me wanting for those WOW moments that never materialized. Naturi Naughton and Asher Brook are standouts ... and they just jumped off the launching pad. If you're an artist, you'll still appreciate the struggles and a few good numbers.

I am also a fan of the original Fame movie. I thought the stories were just as interesting as the original. However, I feel the original movie's music score surpasses the new one. In the original I felt the movie was made for the music. In this one I felt like the music was an addition to some interesting stores. Although I feel with this movie I had a better sense of the school.

This movie was horrible!!! I love the arts, especially dance and this movie was a let down!! It did not live up to the name of the original "Fame". If I was Debbie Allen I would be embarrassed! I was so let down by the music also. I just knew that I would love the music. Absolutely not!!! Santogold's song was good but that was about it. The acting was o.k., not there fault at all. Story writing is where the let down is!!! The characters just came across as superficial! Completely let down!!!

The movie was very short. There was no storyline about the students as individuals and they could have involved the teachers more. It was a bunch of music video clips strung together. The only parts that really work were the scene where the classical piano player first sings (Out here on my own) and the graduation scene.

It was very High School Musical-like. No comparison to the original Fame movie made in the 80s. The original was gridy, the characters and story-lines were more fully developed. This Fame movie was kind of corny. More like a childs disney movie

my 11 year old loved it! It was just okay for me...not the same as the "old school" Fame...reminded me a lot of High School Musical only way less "disney".

Very pleased! I was expecting it to be good, but it surpassed my expectations. I really enjoyed the cast, particularly Debbie Allen. (After all, what would "Fame" be without this icon?!?) Kherington Payne did an amazing job dancing and her acting was on the mark as well. It definitely was a "feel good" movie & one that I would recommend to anyone who loves dance & music.
