My 7 year old son enjoyed it. I was bored. A few laughs throughout the film, but overall just wasn't for me. I also didn't appreciate the "I'm pretty so I can't also be smart" stereotype; the "I can only be smart if I look like a nerd" idea is outdated and wrong.
Wait for the DVD, let your kids watch it while you read something better.

As a mom, grandmom, and retired teacher, I was curious about how such a short but cute book could be turned into a movie, and I was very pleasantly surprised! The background story is timeless, enough of the original story is there to be recognizable, and the movie is terrific. If I hadn't seen the directors on a late night talk show, I wouldn't even have known about the movie. Where's the advertising???

Took 11 year olds (and a 31 year old auntie!) to see it. We all thought it was excellent. Very, very funny and clever. Can't believe there is not more hype over this one. It's a winner for sure. If you are hesitating about going to see it,, DON'T. It's wonderful.....

I don't think this movie was as funny as I would have liked but my 9 year old daughter enjoyed the films animation. I was able to grasp the concepts of the father son relationships, the never giving up on your dreams and the nerd/being smart and girl/boy lessons but I don't think she really understood some of the lessons the movie was focused around. Overall the movie was okay.

I was looking forward to this because I thought it would be funny. Unfortunately I was disappointed. My daughter thought it was pretty good but was glad we only paid 5 dollars. It reminded me too much of Igor and I did not like that film either. My daughter is 9 and totally did not get the nerd to nerd parts of the story. She wanted to know why the pretty girl had to be ugly to be smart. Why she could not be pretty and smart.

Took my 5-year-old grandson. He loved it, except that the sound was too loud. He kept covering his ears. So engrossed that he didn't even take a bathroom break. We read the book the night before - a smart move. We read it again, after we got home from the theater. This old grandma enjoyed the film, too. I agree w/my grandson - the sound was just too loud.

I thought it was a good movie for kids. I took my 7 year old grand daughter and it keep her attention for the whole 1 hour 21 minutes...including the credits. Only one cine had a little tongue and cheek feel. And most likely every child did pick up on it. This movie was a lot deeper than I expected. I expected to just go to a little kid's animated movie, but it had a lot of intelligently thought out twists and turns and a really great plot. It had a lot of relationship dynamics in it ... how we mistreat those who are different than us, family relationships, etc.
I recommend this show for adults and kids. It was well worth seeing with or without my granddaughter.
Go see it!!!!

We took our 2 and 6 year old granddaughters to see this movie. Very funny for us and lots of things they found funny. Animation was terrific. We will get the book and read it. Hope it lives up to the movie. I think the 3D movie would have been too scarry for them, maybe older kids would like 3D.
