I thought the movie was good. I will recommend it to my friends. I generally despise Sci-Fi and futuristic movies i.e. Transformers but Star Trek was one exception I knew I would make. I wish the real William Shatner was in the movie along with the other original cast members to do a cameo appearance of some sort. There are a lot of lousy movies out there and my husband and I enjoy going to the movies but it is hard to find movies with substance. My favorite movie is Cinderella Man.

The first thing I have to say is that the special effects really did this film justice. I mean they spared no expense getting every running light, every hull plate separation point, every rivet in the ship was worked into the CGI, very masterfully done, and that was just the beginning. Space itself was very well detailed, as were the stars, planets, and the like, each exhibiting with great accuracy their own individual characteristics. The characters were accurate, and the storyline was very interesting. A few things seemed off canon, I'm gonna research some more on that. All in all, it's a must see film for fans and non-fans alike.

I was a teenager when ST Classic hit the airwaves and was a Trekker from day 1. This film is outstanding: the casting, the writing, the production quality, the sfx! If you're a Trekker or Trekkie, you won't be disappointed. If you are a casual watcher, like my husband who also saw it, you might just be a convert. This is everything we have waited for and more! This is JJ Abrams at his best!!! He has done not only the franchise proud, but boldly opens the story and characters to an entire new generation. You don't need to be a Trekkie to love this movie, just a fan of good old fashioned story telling with well developed characters and enough big time movie effects to make any summer blockbuster proud. This will be the movie all others are measured against this summer! See it tonight!

Great special effects and superb casting is what makes this movie, a little to much Leonard Nemoy playing the older Spock, however it was nice to see him reprise the role. The story works well, wished they spent a little more time developing Eric Bana character's background.

JJ Abrams imaginatively reworked the Star Trek mythology into a fun, action-packed two hours +. Even worked in references to the fact that this is an alternative timeline, so the hardcore fan doesn't need to worry that "his/her Trek" is gone, just reimagined.
Enjoyed it as such, though the villian was a bit two-dimensional, which is what a non-fan like Abrams might see as typical in ST, but of course isn't. The test will come when he tries to follow up. Trek was still about ideas and relationships as well as quantum torpedos and Klingons. Let's see if he can do it right when that becomes hard to do. FYI: Fan since 1966. No basement living for this Trekker... Hot Girlfriend too!

"I have been and always shall be your friend." - Leonard Nemoy (Spock)
This simple line transfixed me on so many levels i don't even know where to begin. Not only was Nemoy’s performance (along with all the other cast) stellar, it was a nice mention to the old and the "passing of the torch" , if you will, to the new crew of the Enterprise.
The trifecta that is Kirk, Spock and Bones was just as quirky and entertaining as the original. Kirk as self-confident and outgoing as ever, Spock making use of his vulcan logic and his human feelings, and my personal favorite in this flick was Bones.. talk about a brilliant interpretation of the character via lines and an accent that made it me drown in a sea of nostalgia.

I loved the movie - i'm not a trekky - so the added humor was great. The overall experience was ruined by a drunk idiot behind me who "couldn't believe she was actually at this movie!" - but that's not the movie that's the theatre! :D

As I myself have never been a huge Star Trek fan, all I can say about the movie is that it was good, and kept interest. However, my husband (who is a Star Trek GEEK) loved it, and couldn't find hardly anything to criticize....a big first for him!!!

I have never watched any of the Star Trek TV shows or movies, and I thought this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It has everything that I look for in a movie, which is amazing special effects, smart story and well-timed comedic interjections. My hat is off!!

In no small part this movie has catapulted Star Trek back to the top of the Sci Fi hierarchy!! JJ Abrams has created nothing short of a masterpiece. From opening scene to end credits this movie is nothing but pure enjoyment. Would be a shame to miss this movie. You can truly not call yourself a fan of Star Trek or Sci Fi if you miss it. When I heard they were calling this movie "This year's Ironman" my expectations lowered. I guess they were referring to it being a blockbuster hit. I do have to admit that this movie surprised me dearly. It was an interesting start to a new Star Trek saga. As opposed to a "re-make" or even a "re-imagination" I would call it an excellent continuation of the series. The actors fit their roles well, and the storyline was very interesting. It could have been very "cheesy" but they really did pull it off. I would say stop what you're doing, and go see this movie today. I would expect there to be a whole new swarm of Star Trek fans thanks to this movie.

Although I have only been to one convention and never have dressed up as any character, I have seen every movie, every episode of every series many times and would consider myself a closet trekie. In saying that I don't know how I feel about 40 years of plot being thrown out the window and now open to any direction future writers want to take. Now with an alternate reality anything is game i.e. Spock and Uhura hooking up, Vulcan being blown up, two Spocks skipping around the universe. I hadn't felt this frustrated since they killed Spock and then later killed Data and poor Data is still dead. I think I would rather let the franchise die as I know it than allow it to continue at the whim of whatever writers presume is needed at the time.

As a director Abrams is amazing, as is the Kurtzman/Orci script -- good solid entertainment for all, especially original Star Trek fans -- stand-out for me was Quinto's perf as Spock, and Pine was terrific as Kirk -- prepare to beam yourself up to the best film to come along in years -- the 2-hr running time seemed more like 2 minutes -- have fun, see this one!

Star Trek is wildly entertaining cinema but not quite the slam dunk I was hoping for. Overall, I was impressed by the cast and the grand production values of this film. I believe the filmmakers treated the material with respect and did genuinely the best job they could, but a little more help at the writing table could have helped this film turn the corner. The biggest single fault of the film is how thin the villain's motivations are. There's lots of action, but the lack of attention to the plot hurt the film for me and detracted from what was otherwise great. I kept questioning the plot elements when clearly we're just supposed to "go with it." Also, don't expect many "money shots" of the shiny new Enterprise.

As a long time Star Trek fan, I loved this movie. It answers some questions from TOS and also gives us an insight into the characters at a younger age. The actors have captured the essence of the original characters without copying them. The movie , story, acting and special effects are superb !!!

This one is for everybody. Even for those with more of Jean-Luc sensibility like me. The analogy of id, super-ego, and ego comprised of, you guessed it, Kirk, McCoy and Spock, is reinvented and explored with delight enough for my type, AND enough entertaining fun to warmly welcome a new fan base to the franchise like Wrath of Khan did in '82. KUDOS to JJ Abrams! Ironically, the 30'ish age group who grew up with TNG, Voyager and Deep Space Nine may feel ever so slightly, well, slighted, but then again, this is simply an enjoyable romp for all and this group will still enjoy. I mean thank Goodness you don't have to know the politics of Bejor and Cardasia! I think Gene would be thrilled with this evolution.

For those who have been Star Trek for the long haul, this movie was a triumph. All of the great catch phrases were there. The action was great and the comedic relief was amazing. There were so many times as an audience we cheered and laughed throughout the movie.
Definitely a wonderful experience. Can't wait to see if they decide to make a sequel.

I grew up with the original series as reruns on Saturday afternoons...It was cheesy, but I liked it!...I then was hooked and watched most of the other series, but lost interest with Enterprise. I saw all the movies when first released, and I had expectations as to what they should be...I was incredibly impressed with Star Trek (XI)...JJ Abrams did a spectacular job reviving the franchise. I am not hesitant to tell anyone I am a Star Trek fan...the characters were revived/revised, and yet held true to who they are...the storyline was clean, held your attention, and didn't have any pointless moments. I cannot wait for a sequel! Bravo, Mr. Abrams, Bravo!

This line defined the movie, the old crew is back with new faces and new life.
Abrams did an excellent job and the cast was phenomenal. There is enough old stuff for those who have been with the franchise for 43 years and enough new to ensure the continuation for a "next generation" of trekkers.

Wow. This movie was great! I'm not really an action-film sort of person, but this film just kept me at the edge of my seat! Not too long and not too short, it was pretty fantastic! I don't think they could have picked a more fitting cast and I really hope to see more of this quality soon in the future!
