I was a little hesitant about my favorite TV series and movies with new actors. I was sure I would hate it. WOW, was I wrong. This movie not only gave lovers of the original a new view of our favorites but the FX and story line is so good even those who don't know or like the original will love this movie. I hope this is the beginning of many sequels to come. The cast is believable and the connection between them is evident already. Hope to see lots more from them.

firstly, i am not a treky, although i have seen most of the series and movies. i though the movie was turely excellent, the overall qaulity of the movie was nearly flawless. however, a few parts of the movie felt slower than others. the begining and introduction was very long although for a non-treky and my girlfriend who hates trek, it was a good introduction to both the main characters and story.

This is a great action/adventure movie. Forget that it's about Star Trek. Forget that it may not be 100% true to Roddenberry's dream. It is truly a fun, fun movie to watch. A literal roller coaster of excitement that plays right up there with the best Star Wars, Indiana Jones films. I can't wait to see where this crew goes next! For the first time in a lonnng time, I may go see this movie multiple times in the theater.

Not being a "Trekkie" by any sense of the word, I was skeptical about seeing this movie. I was expecting to be bored and lost in aspects of an old story arc that I was never interested in before. I'm happy to say I was wrong. This new Star Trek is a reboot of the story and characters, much like Batman Begins. It is fast paced, has great special effects, an excellent villain, and it knows how to laugh. No getting bogged down in long conversations about logic and love and etc. Unlike Lucas in Phantom Menace, Abrams gets so much more right. The movie never gets self-dulgent and too serious. The casting was very well done. It's a shame Scotty doesn't get enough screen time! It's 2 hours but the time flies by. Thumbs up!

The new Star Trek movie is the definition of a summer blockbuster, After seeing it with my family we wanted to go buy tickets to the next show and see it again. It maintains elements of the original franchise without weighing down the film and gives the characters a great new spin. Not since I was a kid and went to Star Wars the first time have I been so taken with a movie.

Star Trek was so much better than anything I had expected, I figured when I got a text message from a friend who was not into Sci Fi saying how much she loved it I thought that was a positive sign. The movie was just great, you do not need to be a "Treckie" to enjoy this movie at all.

This movie is one of the greatest Trek movies out there. I would recommend this movie to anyone.
I hope, for the way it was portrayed, that a second one comes out with in the next 2 years. If you haven't seen the movie and are reading this, get your butt up and go now. I was never a Trekkie or Trekker, but I have seen the other ten movies, and this is by far the best. And if you do follow along from the ten, you can see why I think they are going to make another.

I am not a trekkie but this movie was entertaining. My 15yr old son came, reluctantly, is not a space movie fan, never saw Star Trek, and didn't even want to go. He absolutely loved it. Chemistry of actors was fantastic. Storyline was great. Special effects were fantastic.
There is change of course, which the "unable to move forward trekkie crowd" will not like, but those who can accept a GREAT movie for what it is and boldly go where previous Star Treks have not gone before, will enjoy immensely.

I've read the reviews citing both sides of the coin, but being an AVID Star Trek fan myself, I am somewhat mystified by fans of the genre saying that the movie does "Trek" injustice.
The casting/acting are amazing. I was blown away with how similar the new versions of our favorite characters are to their predecessors. I also enjoyed learning where the characters came from "before" Starfleet. *spoiler alert* The plot completely deviates from the original show, thus basically "erasing" the Trek timeline we know, but I was VERY excited by this. It opens up a whole new prospect of where the show - and subsequent variations - can go. Writers and fans can start exploring all over again, not knowing what's going to come in the future.

Not like the original series, but it couldn't be. I was a little disappointed about the way things came to be, but there was a reason (can't explain until you see the movie). Characters are identical to the original crew. Crowds applauded the movie at the end (both times I saw it).

If this is the best that the Star Trek franchise can produce then Star Trek as we have known it, is done. Roddenberry must be rolling in his grave with the new release. Labelled the "new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time", it lacks the telltale symbolism of space as the greatest & final frontier. There is no sense of adventure, no exploration, no discovery and no widening of horizons. Aside from the obvious reference to former character names, the linkage is poor. Star Fleet's mission is to go "where no one has gone before". This movie unfortunately goes where many have gone and is a pale imitation of what has gone before. If this is new vision of the UFP with peaceful coexistence then the Federation is no more.

This Star Trek movie was the first movie I've seen. And it was awesome! It's also got its funny moments. It's amazing how they got people that resemble the way the characters from the 60s may have looked when they were young (says my dad). The visual fx were also very good.

I cannot begin to express how this has blown me out of the water. When I first saw that they were going to do a remake of the original crew version of Star Trek I cringed. I thought it would surely kill the concept....boy was I wrong. J.J. Abrams and this wonderful cast have breathed new life into a series that had sadly wandered into a tv remake wasteland (aka Enterprise the series).
I am humbled and can only say that I honestly believe the Great Bird of the Galaxy is smiling down on you.... With this version you have helped to ensure that Star Trek will "Live long and Prosper".

I have been a Star Trek fan since the original series and this movie does an excellent job of tieing the old with the new. The choice of actors could not have been any closer and believeable. I can't wait to see the next one with this cast. I still think of William Shatner as Captain Kirk. I believe this cast will be instantly typecast into these roles

Saw this movie opening day, and loved it. I have been a fan if star trek all my life, and this was tied fr the best movie ever. My husband have never seen anything from star trek and never liked it, but i convinced him to see it, so I went a second time, this time with him and he loved it. YOu do not have to be a fan in the past to love this movie; however, if you are, there are nuggets thrown in there just for the long time fans. It is worth everyone going to see this movie.

Now that we are rid of Rick Berman and have JJ Abrams, Star Trek is back!!! It will be able to continue developing as it was when Gene Roddenberry was alive. Having Nimoy in the movie was masterful. The choice of actors and their characterizations of the legendary crew is excellent (Kudos to Quinto, Pine, and Pegg). The only character that did not quite fit in the old role (but it works anyway!!) was the Sulu character. The allusion to a possible alternate time line covers any Trek Universe discrepancies. The special effects are absolutely incredible. When will the sequel be released?

The blending of new actors, new special effects and story lines for an original concept did very well on screen. I, well know as a star trek fan, was very well impressed with the performance of all the new actors and of the old, Nimoy and his new counterpart faired on equal terms, less to say, i was very proud of the outcome of the movie and yes, i would see it again, advised family and friends to watch it, for they will not be disappointed!
