Enjoyed the original, and through years of remade movies have learned to appreciate each movie for its own merits, but this was very slow and boring as some previous reviewers had mentioned. I thought the acting was great but it really dragged. I should have know better with the critics reviews so high LOL, but the users are usually dead on - I'd wait for DVD for this one and wish I did.
Glad I didn't drag my "not long on attention span" son with me. :)
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Entertaining, but could use some work if they do the sequels. The acting wasn't great. The special effects were OK but nothing spectacular, still it was an entertaining movie if you can get past that. Die hard fans of the cartoon will have issues in a number of areas, but best to go into it not expecting an exact copy. It's kind like if you saw Errol Flynn's Robin Hood and went to see the Costner version expecting more of the same. I wasn't happy either, but one I got over myself, I went to see it again for what it was, not what I wanted it to be (expectations I guess)....after all it's all just entertainment. If money is real tight, you might want to wait for the DVD, personally I prefer the big screen.
I am not a trekkie but this movie was entertaining. My 15yr old son came, reluctantly, is not a space movie fan, never saw Star Trek, and didn't even want to go. He absolutely loved it. Chemistry of actors was fantastic. Storyline was great. Special effects were fantastic.
There is change of course, which the "unable to move forward trekkie crowd" will not like, but those who can accept a GREAT movie for what it is and boldly go where previous Star Treks have not gone before, will enjoy immensely.
