Predictable to the core, mediocre to say the least. None of the bloody fights were necessary and first 45 min could easily be skipped. Liked graphics and visual effects but it doesn't compensate for lack of good story line.

Incredible Cast, sets and story line. I have always been a fan of Paradox story lines. If you are a true Star Trek fan, you will not be disappointed. This Movie allows for a whole new time line of events. I am so looking forward to future Movies to come. Gene, You are always remembered.

This was a fantastic reboot of a venerable franchise. As a fan of Star Trek, I was a little nervous going into the movie, but my reservations were wiped away. Yes, it doesn't match with canon exactly, but why should it strictly adhere? The story is based on an altered timeline. The characters and the story maintained the essence of canon, just in an altered form. Things must adapt or die, and I for one don't want to see Star Trek die. It has a fantastic cast along with fantastic visual effects--I plan on watching this film more than once, especially in its IMAX format. Run, don't walk, to the theater for this!

Of all the Star Trek Movies, this is the one for everyone to enjoy, You don't need to be a "Trekkie" to enjoy the storyline because it takes you back to the beginning... Even if your not a big fan, you will be after you see it !!! I saw it on the Ultra Screen which made it even that much better! I will see it again and again...

Fun and fast paced, I never even glanced at my watch once (which is common even during movies I love.) I liked the way several of the characters took our old beloved characters and made them their own without becoming caricatures. Chris Pine rocks as Kirk. Although Shatner will always hold a special place in my heart, to me Pine IS the new Kirk.

Outrageously fantastic acting and character focus really make this movie come off the screen. Pine is perfect as Kirk and without ruining the moment you rediscover Scotty, prepare to laugh and be thrilled with how these familiar characters find new life in this movie. The homage to series iconic moments, such as Kirk in bed with an alien tie the original characters with their new stewards seamlessly. The changes in the Star Trek timeline were slightly upsetting, but was ingenius and does provide an avenue for an entirely fresh franchise. I will go see this in the theatre again & I've never done that.

This movie provides a dizzying benchmark for any that come after, much like Wrath of Khan.
This was an amazing movie, standing alone as a film, and a superb treat for any hard core trekkie. It makes you want to know more if you dont know about this franchise, and satisfies the desire for more in the saga.

Fast paced, yet with the proper amount of homage to the original - this new Trek is something worth seeing! Casting was excellent and I enjoyed seeing their interpretations of the characters we know so well. I couldn't pick out a single part that I didn't like! Great job JJ - you had a formidable task and you rocked the house with it. Total WIN.

Yes folks the brilliance of the movie making and plot making of this movie was inescapable. JJ really out did himself with this. There is more then enough plot material to reach out to the old fans... Those who've seen it know what I mean. Those that don't, well, you'll just have to trust me. :)
As for the paradox twist, it was really the only legit way they could pull this off because a simple "retelling" wouldn't have worked. While an adjustment to "begin again" worked wonderfully.
This is a must see for any Star Trek fan and frankly one of the best Star Trek movies made to date in my opinion. Bring on the next one!!!!! :)

The casting of the crew of the Enterprise was spot on and the performances were unimpeachable. The movie had humor and pathos and enough explosions to make any adolescent boy happy. The film was a loving and respectful tribute and one heck of a fun ride.

I thought the movie was great. Had a bit of trouble with Spock/Sylar though. However, because it is an alternative reality, it could, hopefully, start a new series about Kirk/Spock/Bones/Scottie and not worry about inconsistencies. That would be awesome.
JJ Abrams is the best (well, second best, after Joss Whedon).
I hope to see more, more, more, more!!!

It was great. I am 69 years old and have always been a fan of STAR TREK. It was neat to see my original heros in a younger form and still going where no man has gone before. Characters were excellent and the return of old SPOCK just put the icing on the cake. I am waiting (hopefully) for more of this adventure of the young trekies.

I thought JJ did an excellent job on bringing a prequel to light and starting a new series. Great story line and good reference to the Original Series. Loved the SPOCK, BONES, SCOTTY, & KIRK jibs. Must see, for new or old Trekkies!

Nero is almost the worst Trek villain ever. But overall the movie was fine. Could have been better, but the casting was well done. The story felt forced. Nero just kinda ruined it. The character didn't make much sense in his actions especially once yo ufind out how long he's been waiting. No sense at all. Could have used a little more to explain why he's waited.

J.J. Abrams along with writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kutzman have managed to pull it off with everything I could have hoped for. Their solution for starting a new Trek movie series couldn't have been more brilliant! The characters were consistent with younger versions of the characters we know and love. The story was wildly entertaining! After it was over I was more the willing to accept it as part of the Trek family. It deserves that honor and it was a pleasure watching the torch be passed as eloquently as it was. Incredible!

Having been a "Trekie" for some time, I had high hopes for this latest Star Trek movie, and my hope were fullfilled. This movie was fun right from the start. I loved how they introduced each character. The effects are mind-boggling. My wife and son (16) enjoyed it too.

This Trek movie requires no real familiarity with the older movies or series. The character development for Kirk and Spock is good, and the rest of the crew are cleverly introduced with a good serving of humor on the side. Special effects are are great, of course. Some of the plot devices are very far-fetched, such as the assignment of a raw cadet (guess who) to ship's first offcer, and then acting captain, and then actual captain. That is the equivalent of taking a new US Naval Academy graduate and giving him command of an aircraft carrier. - Never, ever going to happen. Otherwise, I enjoyed everything about the movie and will definitely see it again as soon as the DVD comes out. Highly recommend it. This new young cast was great!

in fact I had to go a 2nd time.

The first really enjoyable ST film in many years, perhaps since ST4. Abrams' reboot manages to simultaneously bring the franchise back to its roots and give it a slick new makeover. The problem with "prequels" is simply that we know how everything turns out. The time-travel / alternate reality premise of "ST" allows the filmmakers to introduce beloved old characters but leaves us plenty of room to explore. The effects are stunning - not simply giant explosions and swooping spaceships, but the attention to detail is remarkable. Abrams colors in the margins...there's simply so much to see! I plan on seeing this again on the big screen, which I can say about very few films nowadays.

The last couple of Star Trek movies left a lot to be desired so I was a bit concerned about how this one would turn out. Well, the Star Trek franchise is redeemed. This movie is simply wonderful. The story line is exciting and interesting and there was not one moment where I was not fully captivated. The filming and special effects were great. The best thing about Star Trek is the casting. I have no doubt they spent a great deal of time finding the perfect people to play the younger versions of the original TV cast. I will say no more because the movie needs to be seen without details being given away but this is a definite must see.
