I enjoyed Prometheus and tried to watch it as a stand alone film. It was not always possible to do so. Being an Alien fan, I found a bit of Prometheus to contain "been there, done that" scenes that I found annoying. However, I came to believe that Prometheus was not only done to answer questions long-time Alien fans had about where things started but also to appeal to those younger folks who might not have seen the original movies. From that standpoint, Prometheus fulfills that goal. It is a stand alone film with a good story line. The special effects were great and not over the top at all. I really hate films that have so many special effects that the story gets lost (think "2012"). The casting was good and acting fairly decent. Over all, definitely worth seeing.
Pros well paced, good prequel
Cons story need more time to complete
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Cheesy, Predictable and CG overload

I wanted to like this movie but, sad to say, it was dumb. They should have spent more money on character development script writing and less on special effects. However, if you like constant CG and, "Oh my gosh - we just got out of that one" type movies, this would be the movie for you. I do like special effects (and this movie did have some good ones), however, I also like to care about the characters and this movie did not manage to promote that caring. I came away from the movie thinking: "So what". The DVD will not make it into my permanent collection.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I did not read the book so had no idea of the story line. I truly enjoyed the movie, the acting and, in particularly, the Rome architecture. I could not tell what was CG and what was actual location shoots.
There is a bit of detailed violence so beware if this is something that is a concern for you.
My attention was held throughout and the movie was easy to follow. The ending was not a surprise to me as I had figured it out earlier but still was well done. I would highly recommend the movie.

The last couple of Star Trek movies left a lot to be desired so I was a bit concerned about how this one would turn out. Well, the Star Trek franchise is redeemed. This movie is simply wonderful. The story line is exciting and interesting and there was not one moment where I was not fully captivated. The filming and special effects were great. The best thing about Star Trek is the casting. I have no doubt they spent a great deal of time finding the perfect people to play the younger versions of the original TV cast. I will say no more because the movie needs to be seen without details being given away but this is a definite must see.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
