I absolutely loved the story and the actors. Top notch performance - I hope this one gets turned into a true movie as well!
My biggest beef was with the 'Fathom Events' (fathomevents.com) presentation. The event was supposed to begin at 7:30. Instead, we were presented with an endless barrage of Fathom Events advertisements and promotions for 15-20 minutes BEFORE any previews started, which was BEFORE the Andrew Lloyd Webber preview. And even his interview was too long. The event didn't really begin until 8:15. Forty five minutes of corporate advertisements, broadway previews and creator interviews...
This movie totally rocked my world. Definitely redeems for the travesty that was G.I. Joe. Go expecting to see the show and all its ridiculous far-fetched plans and action. True to the franchise!
I find myself thankful that seeing George Lucas redefine special effects back in 1977 pushed James Cameron to want to do his sci-fi epic to top that. It may have taken him over 30 years, but we finally get to see his epic.
I will be watching this movie at least another half dozen times, because it is everything he touted it to be. It is a whole new kind of movie - so vibrant and otherworldly. You cannot help but get lost in its splendor.
As one of those who sees the movie before reading the book, I can say that coming into the theater with a many questions unanswered, this movie explained the plot out pretty well. The only thing that required explanation afterward from someone who had read all the books was why Snape was the half-blood prince - that was not explained very well, but it was hinted at very well with the potions book and all. (How was I to know that Voldermort wasn't just as good at potions too, though?)
Anyway, good movie. Not as good as Goblet of Fire and much more narrow scope, but well done.
Mind-numbingly long movie experience that leaves you feeling flat the entire duration. Sure, there are Tommy gun fights every 10 minutes, but that is the most exciting thing you will see in this movie. Christian Bale did not flesh out his character as a conflicted director of the Chicago office well at all - very disappointing one there. The best thing about this Public Enemies is Johnny Depp, who did a masterful job with John Dillinger - even walking into the FBI 'Dillinger squad' office at one point in the movie, and the awesome vintage cars.
As one of those evil downloaders who happened to see this movie in 'workprint' form, I can say that the difference between the unfinished leaked version and the finished one is spectacular! Seeing the unfinished 'teaser' only made me want to see the movie more!
I went into this movie with neutral expectations, having never read the graphic novel, and it was excellent! I will definitely be recommending this movie to friends.
As expected, once this movie finally hit the theaters, it lives up to the initial hype. If you are a Star Wars fan, this movie will give you chills, especially when you see all the fans waiting to see Episode I for the first time. We all remember how that felt back in 1999 - live it again!
