This is a great film. The use of an alternate universe with a new timeline is brilliant. Fans are able to see the characters of Uhura, Sulu, Scotty and Chekov fleshed out more so than ever before. Chris Pine is an awesome Kirk. Mc Coy is right on. Spock? He fits in this alternate universe, but his interior struggle with his human side is missing. It is a critical piece of what fans identify with. Now, where are the other characters? I'll miss the tension of Spock and Chapel. But I can't wait for Trek II!

The most fun I've had watching a movie for a long time. Fun from the beginning to the end. What more can you ask for from a Sci fi film? Lots of fun, special effects, humor and fresh popcorn. :)

I'm a bit of a Trek fan, and certainly one of the Geek masses. That can be a boon or a bust with a movie like this, everyone knows no one is angrier or more vocal than a geek scorned by his geek true love. This, happily, is not the case with Star Trek.
While many things change in this movie (just about everything in the Trek universe has to change) it ends up fitting together nicely and makes for a spectacular film. Some action, some comedy, and a touch of romance from some unexpected angles make it a crowd pleaser. High Profile special effects and set pieces make this a theater must-see. You'd be doing the child in you a disservice without seeing the scope of this on a giant screen.
So watch it. Enjoy it. This one is recommended...

This movie is a deffinite must see! Star Trek is back with new actors, fresh Ideas and no where to go but up! This movie far exceeded any expectations that I had for it. The story line was well thought out, easy to follow and opened the door to all new adventures unhindered by what has come before. And, amazingly did all this without negating any of the original Star Trek stories. Do yourselves a favor and go see this movie. You'll be glad you did!

One thing I realized is that you HAVE to go into this movie with an open mind...that is if you are an avid Trek watcher.
Overall, this is an excellent movie, but being a nitpicker when it comes to techy stuff, I saw many things that could have been done better. A couple things stood out, the promotion of Kirk being one of them and the other is the relationships of the fellow crew. My fav character was McCoy, played to a tee by Carl Urban. Chris pine did an excellent job as Kirk, you could really see that this guy did his homework.
If you are a trekkie, see it, if not, see it anyways. This is an entertaining movie that is worth the price of admission. :)

This is a must see for anyone who loves the Sci-fi genre and if your a Star Trek fan, well, just go! The newest of the Star Trek movies is nothing short of incredible. Sit close to the screen to really get the most of the special effects. The story line is great, the new Kirk, Spock, Bones, Sulu, Checkov, and Uhura are are extremely well played. I'm going to see this one again!

Overall, a good action movie, but a little disappointed in the characters and the story. Don't excpect the movie to meet up with the Trek time line as they changed it for the movie and Bones was too developed for this early in their story line. The other Treks told more story in less time, we don't have to have an action sequence every 5 minutes, leave those to other movies, and give us the story. This could have easily been a trilogy showing Kirk and Bones in Starfleet, then follow into 1st deployment on Enterprise, and end with Kirk getting command and his 1st mission.
Admittedly I am not a true trekky, but I felt let down by the way this was done, and found the story lacking.

I absolutely loved this movie. The casting was perfectly done. I have seen every film since '79 and don't recall such anticipation for a film opening. The trailers hooked me and the film delivered. I believe Gene and the original cast are smiling today.

I loved this movie, and I am, while a huge sci-fi fan, a discriminating one, I think...
The casting was extremely well thought out, the actors brought very interesting nuances to the characters, paying homage to the original performances but adding their own input to make them come alive. The look of the is a great balance of the retro tech look of the original series, and a hot new high tech look.
As for the story line, sheer brilliance, because it opens up a whole new world of possibilites for the future without violating the history of Star Trek to date. Leonard Nimoy's role is critical and well acted, not just a thrown in cameo. A higher recommendation I cannot give.

J.J. Abrams did a great job remaking Star Trek. The plot was good, the characters interesting, the actors were all believable, and the action was appropriately paced. I know that Abrams tried to keep the characters like they were in the original Star Trek, and I like that he did, but I wish that he had fixed Chekov's accent. The Russian alphabet doesn't have a "w" in it, but it does have a "v".
