One of the best movies I have ever seen. True to Gene Roddenberry's ideals. Action, adventure, romance, special effects, acting all superb. Good story, interesting, funny too. Made me laugh, cry, gasp and cheer. Good for us old trekkies and none trekkies alike. Money well spent. Entertainment in the theater at its best. Not anything like the Next Generation series or other Star Trek movies, except perhaps II and IV.

Loved the movie. Kirk’s birth with his Father’s sacrifice was touching. The early scenes on Vulcan were great. . Enjoyed all the scenes of how Kirk came to Starfleet. The movie did a great job of establishing why McCoy is older than the other cadets and how he and Jim became such good friends. The sets were great, as were the action scenes. There were several nice nods to the previous shows (including Scotty beaming Admiral Archer’s beagle).The romantic relationship they show nicely sets up a possible love triangle but at the same time gives added depth to both Uhura and Spock. It was great seeing the great Leonard Nimoy in the film.. I’m planning to see it again this weekend. It really is something special.

The good: Fun action flick. Simon Pegg's scene-stealing. Karl Urban as Bones. Wisely does away with most of the original's past to set the franchise up for the future.
The bad: Does not transcend its genre. Minimal character development. The turn at the end where Kirk and Spock suddenly become friends doesn't have a solid underpinning. Too many scenes with Kirk dangling off high platforms.

I'm a Star Trek Fan and was very pleased with the storyline and the actors. The movie was easy to follow for those who may not be fans or are too young to know of Star Trek. Lots of action, funny, entertaining, and the attractive cast didn't hurt either (Spock is HOT!) Worth the $.

Fast moving film with diverse and interesting characters. The back story to the entire Star Trek lore; it is fun to see how bits from past films are alluded to (e.g., Scotty's giving the formula for extruded aluminum to an engineer in the Voyage Home is echoed by a future Spock giving him the formula for hide speed beaming in this film). This is but one of myriad references that are fun if you know them and don't get in your way if you don't. Go!!!

Absolutely amazing. The casting was superb. They really kept the history and character traits - at least the caricatures of them. It was funny and campy where needed and packed with great effects. Was just a great story. A MUST SEE!!!

I knew from the previews this would be good and it was better than I could imagine. Loved the old series and this movie honored all the actors and topped them in many ways! Hope there's a sequel. It was great!

It certainly was a very good movie. As a Trekkie, I was a little disappointed that it departed from Star Trek "history". However, it was much better then the Next Generation movies and TV programs which were way to preachy.
Kirk was not a diplomat and certainly this movie showed that.
I will continue to go to see them when the sequels come out.

I went into the movie expecting a Star Trek movie like those I has already seen before. I was pleasantly surprised at how original it was! The action scenes were amazing and the special effects were very well done. The new actors playing characters I know very well did a wonderful job! All in all, this movie exceeded my expectations.

As a LONG time Star Trek fan, I have seen all the original series, plus all the spinoffs, plus all the previous movies. I did not go into this movie with a lot of hope that it would be very good. I was amazed - it was not good, it was GREAT. I loved it and loved the interaction of the characters. Of course, only a Trekkie would understand and appreciate some of the fine points, but anyone would enjoy this movie. The story was interesting, the character development was good, the special effects were terrific. All in all, I cannot say enough good things about this movie. I especially liked the way Chris Pine played the part of Kirk. It's a fun and entertaining movie. Don't miss it.

Clever for old guys like me that know the original TV series, interesting enough to stand on it's own. Action sequences are a little too fast and confusing (even my 15 year old son thought so). There was some, but I would have liked to have seen a little more in the way of references to the first TV series in the way of verbal phrasing and personal posture/behavior of the characters.

A great ride but definitely not the best movie of the last decade. Eric Bana's Nemo character was underwhelming and underdeveloped at best. There will never be another Khan. Also they ripped off Galaxy Quest with the moving transporter scenes. Overall pretty solid.

JJ Abrams took a huge risk in making a film based on legendary characters infused with the personalities of the actors who created them. The actors all did an incredible job bringing these characters back to life! They were totally believable! The interaction between Kirk & Bones and Spock & Bones was great... hilarious at times! The action & effects were awesome!

I went in with high expectations based on all the glowing reviews, but I can't believe I was watching the same movie. Outside of some stunning CG and special effects, I thought this movie was really weak. Classic Hollywood trying to throw everything in, but failing to really develop the plot or characters. I suppose this was great for the real trekkies, but I hated many of the main characters -- including Spock, both young and old. I thought Kirk, Sulu and Scotty were all good, but the rest were terrible. The dialogue also was shallow and weak. Ohura (however you spell it) falling for Spock?

This one was different but good. It appeals to a broader audience beyond the stereotypical trekkie, and the back story of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the original crew is well done. Writing Leonard Nimoy into the script was a nice tribute to the original cast. Look forward to more.
