Fun but not great

The good: Fun action flick. Simon Pegg's scene-stealing. Karl Urban as Bones. Wisely does away with most of the original's past to set the franchise up for the future.
The bad: Does not transcend its genre. Minimal character development. The turn at the end where Kirk and Spock suddenly become friends doesn't have a solid underpinning. Too many scenes with Kirk dangling off high platforms.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
