I have to say, I wasn't expecting to like this movie - it was one my son wanted me to take him to, but I sure was surprised - I LOVED IT!!
I found it to be a great movie, and would definetely go see it again . . . when out on DVD, it will be added to our movie collection!!

When I saw a commercial for this movie, I thought "Oh, that's just another action figure/comic hero movie--not that interesting." Surprise! The movie blew me away with elements of patriotism, justice, and loyalty. The special effects were cool, but the characters really drew me in and now I can't wait for the sequel! I'm addicted to Iron Man--something I never thought I'd say.

I have to admit that I wasn't too thrilled about this one. However, the kids really wanted to see it so I took them, and was pleasantly surprised. The acting was very good, the story was well done (a little cheesy, but we are talking about a comic adaptation here), and the special effects were absolutely stellar. I have to hand it to them, they've done it again.

OK, the SFX are first-rate, but that's a requirement for any summer 'adventure' movie. The story is a mess, the characters predictable, and the only marginally credible acting is done by Robert Downey Jr. Geez, what a shock the bald guy with the weird beard is evil. Who woulda thunk it?! A Taliban group that's just vague enough not to offend people? How shockingly original! The terrorist is left alive, do I smell sequel? Paltrow is wasted and the movie is about 20 minutes too long. Plus, it's a 2-hour plus long infomercial for Audi, Dell, etc. If you want to beat the heat and watch some nice CGI, I guess this is an option. If you want to see a well-crafted movie, you'll be looking at your watch about 90 minutes in waiting for this thing to end.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This movie hit all of the basis, action, comedy and a little love story in the works. My girlfriend wasn't pumped about seeing this one, but she couldn't stop talking about it after we got out of the movie. Robert Downey Jr was very convincing and purely entertaining in this one. What a shocker, right? Just see it.

It had some pretty cool action but didn't quite live up to the hype. it also had a bit of an abrupt ending, though not nearly as bad as the second Fantastic 4. I really liked the sound track though. It's as if they just ripped it from Guitar Hero :)

Robert Downey Jr. is PERFECT in this role. He does a phenomenal job with it. Actions are great. The humor is classic but not too much. Fast-paced, great story. And the true test....my 9 year old sat through the whole thing without moving or asking for candy!

Leave reality at the door and give yourself over to a fun time from beginning to end. Downey is the perfect non-hero hero. A bearded, bald Jeff Bridges was believable as the double dealing, double crossing villain. And every hero needs a villain. Go see it, but some scenes may be too violent for the kiddies.

My husband was the one who really wanted to see this movie, it didn't matter to me one way or the other. This movie was great, it had a real good story line to it, and lots of action. It Intertained both of us. I would highly recomend this movie to everyone of all ages, well maybe not babies.

I'm
a fan and regular reader/collector of comic books (DC basically) and most of the time, whenever one
of these comic book movies comes out it makes me cringe because it
seems like Hollywood goes out of its way to make me feel silly for
reading comics. And lately there are so many of these movies too. Every
once in a while, a comic bok movie comes out that reminds me why I am so
into comics and Iron Man is definitely one of those movies. You don't
need to be a lifetime fan of Iron Man and you don't need to like comics
to enjoy this movie, but if you are a fan and if you do like comics,
this one's for you. No matter what you see or read about Robert Downey,
Jr., he never disappoints and this movie is just another example of why
he is such a great actor. But most of all, it's nice to know there exist
extremely talented actor/directors like Jon Favreau who not only know
how to make a great movie, but actually care about the people who go to
see that movie. Jon lets his respect for moviegoers and comic fans
shine through here and that's refreshing. Iron Man is what summer
movies are all about and what comic book movies should be all about.
This movie and The Dark Knight will make summer 2008 one to remember.

Excellent cast and script - Downey, Paltrow, and Bridges all shine with equal parts drama and wit. Very enjoyable and not too far out of the realm of possibility with the advancements of technology today. Highly recommended! I will probably go see again.

I was a bit skepticle about Robert Downey, Jr. because of his personal life but he came through in this movie. There's alot of his personality in the character. Great story line it keeps on track and has a reason to every scene. The other characters are very supporting and add to the storyline. My 13 year old son loved it. I know the colors are original in the comics, but they sure are wrong.
(Go Gators) All in all the movie is worth seeing if you're a Marvel Comics fan and to take your children to, they'll enjoy it as well. Surprised to see Jon Favreau directed, very pleased, big Favreau fan. Finally stay to the very end, past the credits, there's a teaser of a new super hero. Enjoy!

I will admit, I had my doubts. After one mediocre showing after another from Marvel themed comics, it looked like Comic movies were on the way out. Iron Man broke that expectation. With top notch acting, a solid story, good execution and jaw dropping special effects, Iron Man delivers!
One of the best parts about it is the fact that even though Stark has this life altering event that gives him an entirely new focus in life, it doesn't change him into a totally different character. At the end of the movie you can see that he's the same guy he was in the beginning, though more responsibly then before.
Another high light of the movie was the villain, Stark's business partner played by Jeff Bridges. With the removal of his hair and the addition of a beard, he present a new image of what initially appears to be a particularly ambitious business man, but you're not shocked to find out his true intention to take over Stark Industries by deception, double dealing, and even killing Tony.
Gwyneth Paltrow did a truly superb job as Tony personal assistant. Faced the reality of Tony's actions as Iron Man, Pepper Potts must now deal with her own morals, and feelings for Tony."

(Disclaimer-I've never read the Iron Man comics, so I am not addressing faithfulness of adaptation here.)
The only things that keeps me from giving this a 5-star review are the occasional slow spots, and the fact that this film flies high, but never quite soars breathlessly like Spidey 2 or Batman Begins. But I'm being REALLY fussy there.
Where does it fit in the recent comic-book movie pantheon? IMO-just barely below the aforementioned films, and above eveyrthing else-Fantastic Four, X-Men, and WELL above Superman Returns.
Walking out of this film, I really agreed with a lot of critics and fans-Robert Downey Jr. is the ONLY actor who could have played Tony Stark. He was pitch-perfect. Maybe the best super hero lead performance ever. The way he confronts his past, and embraces his future is multilayered and inspiring.
Jeff Bridges-GREAT villain! Gwyneth Paltrow-nice to see an A-list actress tackle the normally thankless role of "the girl" in a superhero flick. She really gets the most out of it.
Make sure you hang around for the end of the credits.
Here's looking forward to IM2.

Excellent! Great fun to watch. This one will be in the home collection when it hits DVD. Nice morality play in the background. Redemption, guy-girl tension, good guys and bad guys and a genuine homegrown villian... what's not to love?

Even for someone who has no knowledge of Iron Man and has never read a Marvel comic, this movie was an exciting, thrill ride with fantastic special effects. Robert Downey Jr. was perfectly cast as the arrogant yet totally likeable Tony Starck and Gwenyth's demure ladylike charm suited her for the role of Pepper. Jon Favreau is truly a quadruple threat as actor, writer, producer, and director.
