I wouldn't categorize 'The Informant' as a comedy. It's a movie based on a true story. Some people find these stories boring, but they are interesting to me because they weren't made up, but really happened. That is what makes this story so funny - that the unbelievable things the main character did actually happened. The people involved didn't do funny things, but it's funny that they took themselves seriously. The humor comes from the irony more than anything else, and it gets deeper and deeper as the story plays out, including what the people involved are doing now. Unbelievable!

This movie is a dramatization of real events, but ends up being much more than that. It starts off slow to be certain, but it keeps on hinting at what's to come -- I went into the theaters knowing nothing of the size of the scandal involved, but you can almost immediately tell that there is a lot going on beneath the surface. More and more of the big picture is revealed as the film goes on, and my opinion of it kept rising right up until the credits rolled -- that's really not an experience I find common in movies nowadays. 4/5 stars, definitely worth a watch.

OK, I get that this was an "offbeat comedy," and lots of people like Matt Damon for some inexplicable reason. Supposedly based on a true story, I can't believe that professional show-biz types thought that this would make a good movie. Plot is pointless and annoying, especially with Damon's forced character with gratuitous bits of humor(none of the characters in this mess I cared about) and this turkey went nowhere. I kept checking my watch until I left 2/3 of the way through. This donkey is on my bottom 10 flicks of all time. Total waste.

Matt Damon is the master of the every man -- this time playing an unlikely corporate executive with his own set of rules. He's so completely disarming that even his pathological lying at first is more funny than hurtful. Damon nails the role and mezmerizes with his ability to keep you in this game when you thought it was over. Pace was a little slow, but crescendo to the payoff was hilarious as well as infuriating!

The screenwriter kept this story of white collar crime perpertrated by a compulsive liar interesting and amusing by having the main character narrate his thoughts. The viewers' connnection with Mark is well developed and by the end of the film as the lies are unraveling, I found myself begging Mark not to tell another one, not to dig the hole deeper. I have no idea why the movie has an R rating. There is no s-e-x and the language is not extreme.

Quirky and entertaining. This movie portrayed Whitacre as quite a pathological liar. The movie also showed in a humorous yet sad way how the individual is much more vulnerable in our legal system versus the corporations.

Intriguing, sometimes confusing, but woven together well. As with all pseudo-documentary, it's difficult to know what is fact and what is fiction, but the implied criticism of runaway capitalism is apparent yet subtle and the role of a mentally curious informant makes it most interesting.

While not Jason Bourne which I love, Matt Damon showed another side to the characters he can play.
The movie was ok for me ... entertaining, but like others I would probably save for a rainy day and watch it on DVD.
