GHTTG is a very funny, raunchy, adult comedy that does what it is supposed to do and does in with panache! Brand & Hill are the perfect foils as they do the modern 2010 version of Hope & Crosby. Even the ooooh yuck moments are really funny. It's a guy flick that will appeal to a bunch of ladies too. If you are intending to go to this movie for some deep, intellectual message with some high-line yuks best to skip this one! Every bit as good as The Hangover. See it and prepare to laugh....often and hard!
There are parts of the vigilante movie "Harry Brown" that will make your skin crawl and have you wishing you could go home and take a shower - like right now. Take away Michael Caine from this one and I doubt if many would recommend it. Michael Caine is the title character, Harry Brown, in this R rated violent, vigilante character story - and he gives the film the emotional depth and texture it needs to offset the dark, dangerous, drug-infested ghetto - with its "Frank Peretti-evilish" inhabitants - we find him embroiled in. A little, or a lot, of Michael Caine, just seems to make any movie better. He has become a moviedom treasure - deservedly so. For adults only - see it!
Take "Thelma and Louise", stir in two 10-level gorgeous actors to play the romantic leads, season with a mix of Spanish, Hindu and English languages with subtitles as needed, baste with some interesting musical interludes and infuse an interesting Casino crime family Vegas plot-line and ... Voila .... you have "Kites: The Remix". Sound weird and a bit confusing? Strangely enough the whole thing makes sense when you see the movie. The male and female lead actors are not only blessed with their physical beauty but they demonstrate some solid acting chops. We were pleasantly surprised by this film and it's interesting, original mix of genres. It may be hard to find but it will be well worth the search. See it!
This adult comedy movie take-off of a Saturday Night Live regular feature is one of the most successful SNL TV-to-Movie (if not the best) transformations yet attempted. If you are easily offended by SNL-style humor made exponentially more crass for it's movie incarnation (note the well-deserved R rating) ... then best to skip this one. Teenage and college boy humor abound here - and then some. I like to imagine myself far above this type of low brow humor but, I will be honest, I found myself laughing out loud a lot in this movie (quite a lot). A guilty, adult, funny-bone pleasure.
I am not a video game player and so have no idea about how this film relates to the game it derives from. That said we found it a harmless enjoyable romp seasoned by an underpinning of romance and mystical mysteries within the fabled desert lands of ancient Persia. I enjoyed seeing Jake Gyllenhaal's transformation into the adventuresome, athletic and dashing "Prince of Persia".....as well as the scenery chewing antics of Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. Gemma Arterton was a feast for the eyes while displaying textured acting in her role as the assertive princess and protector of the "magic dagger". Nothing here to really "stick to the bones" but a fun ride while we are watching it's spectacle on-screen.
Nothing really new in the newest and, supposedly, last Shrek movie. We can only hope this is the Final Chapter. There were a few low key giggles in this one but nothing really original and fresh. Most of the time it felt like something I had seen before. At best this may be one to rent (or buy) somewhere down the road and file in the "electronic babysitter" cabinet.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

A Well-crafted Murder Mystery-Suspense-Love Story!
Extremely well-crafted suspense-murder mystery-love story with a hearty seasoning of interesting characters, sharp -often humorous - dialogue enhanced with a "switchback" plot that rivets attention. This movie is so well-done that by the time it reached mid-point I felt as if I could understand and speak Spanish (the film is subtitled and I do not speak Spanish). I'm confident that virtually all 21+ year-olds will relish this movie and it's rich storyline and characters. Even if you have a predilection for avoiding foreign movies with sub-titles I would recommend you see this one. Superb accomplishment by all involved!
The Queen carries the day in this predictable romantic comedy. Without the inherent personality and presence of Queen Latifah this movie would likely be a "skip it". That said, because she is in virtually every scene in the movie, and because she is so believable and sincere within her character .... Latifah makes it a genuine "see it". See it with someone you love and like to be with, hold hands with and smile with a lot. My bride of 33 years made the comment as we were holding hands and walking out of the theater after the end of the movie that "Queen Latifah was an inspiration because of her talents, personality and "un-waif" size to herself and so many other "real-world" women". I understand that and Latifah's talents are on full, effective display in Just Right. Director Hamri and his team have put together a feel-good romantic winner. See it.
An epic movie that imagines the journey and the evolution of the man that becomes the inspiring legend for the common man - Robin Hood. Having read many mixed reviews I was anticipating something too bloated and "in love with itself" to enjoyably immerse in .... happily that was not the case. Robin Hood is a spectacle, full of texture and history, intrigue and drama, adventure and challenge. The film takes full advantage of the acting chops of Crowe, Blachette, Hurt and Sydow - and many others. It also incorporates panoramic cinematography, massively well-choreographed fight and war scenes - as well as an eye for the small details of the period in food, castles, villages, clothes, equipment and horses. While some critics have complained that Scott's Robin Hood is too much like his Gladiator I think his experience and deft touch simply add to the success of this treatment of the legend of Sherwood Forrest. Kudos to all involved.
Letters to Juliet is chocked full of predictability but it does it with great panache. Worth seeing in a theater or renting a couple of months from now - especially if you can view it with someone you like holding hands with and steal furtive glances with from time to time. Vanessa Redgrave and the cinematography add just enough "heft" to make this film worthy of the genre. Yes, Vanessa Redgrave does not pull off the 65 years of age she is supposed to be but her beauty and presence more than make up for it. Give in to your romantic self for 95 minutes and allow this adventure in the "persistence of love" to take over.
